Staff Selection

There are several key factors when considering a member for a moderator or admin permission. A moderator or admin will be treated as an authority on your forum. They will have the power to do great harm to your forum if you do not select carefully.

How to select staff:

The most important thing to keep in mind when selecting a staff member is that the person should think like you do. The more you and your staff are in agreement, the fewer problems you will have. If you have staff already, consult with them. Current staff can provide good insight and they will be the ones who have to work with the new staff member. The member should be active and in a reasonable time zone. If your forum has international visitors make sure you have staff from multiple time zones.

How to avoid problems:

NEVER promote your forum by offering a staff position to anyone who gets over x posts. Select only those who you would trust with your car or credit card. It takes only a few moments for an admin to destroy years of work. Make sure that they have a secure account. Family members should not be using the same account. Confirm they have a secure password and a safe email account.

Who should you avoid?

Avoid any members that have left and returned several times. Avoid any members who have previously broken rules or have been reprimanded.
