- The data and structure changes regularly so a backup every thirty days often becomes useless soon after it is made.
- Many people were not treating it like what it is called, a backup.
- The 1,000 post limit which was needed prevented boards that could have needed it most from using it.
- It does not backup skins, etc.
- It wasted resources that could be used to offer more features.
- Reason: I use it as a backup... We make full backups more often, automatically. You get all your data backed up and more often.
- Reason: I want to move to another host... The backup is in a format that is useless for this. The structure and the actual data are incompatible with any other host. Even if you were rather good at SQL and spent hours cleaning up the structure to match, you could never fix the actual data.
- We will be lowering prices on the conversion of data and also I will be designing a powerful convertor which can convert boards . This means you pay less and will get your data in a few minutes after your payment is received rather than days. (Transfer can be done by yourself for free, but you can optionally pay for that.
InvisionFree's goal is not to trap your board on a host against your will and this should actually give you more control than before (with the lower prices and faster conversion service). Our old way to reach our goal was to give backups unlike most (or all) remote board hosts, but that has become out of date and the wrong way to handle it.
For those of you scared that InvisionFree will close one day suddenly and your board would be gone, there is a system planned that would give all board owners their board data converted regardless of size for free (not that we expect to close).
