Protecting your forum

As with any service on the Internet, your forum can be broken into. To avoid this from happening you can take the following steps.
  • Secure your password: Your password should be 6 or more characters long. It should contain numbers and letters and have no meaning in the dictionary or to you personally. It can also help to change your password regularly. Use the password for only your forum.
  • Secure your email: An attacker can steal access to your email account and then request a lost password. To prevent this, have a secure password on your email account and do not share your email account with others. For an extra layer of security change your email address to a non-public address.
  • Pick admins carefully: See our article on selecting staff for your forum.
  • Never give out the link to your Admin CP: In rare circumstances the URL (specifically the part that looks like ?adsess=672b8176...) can grant access to an attacker.
  • Never give out your password: No one needs your password. If you are asked for it, the person is probably trying to break into your board. This especially includes what looks like official emails, do not reply to an email asking you to confirm your board password.
