Title: Xbox Noises
PhilMan@XGX - August 27, 2003 06:24 PM (GMT)
This is what i assume... and now i reallyu think this is whats happening. When you put in a CD, you will here a noise, but its the cd turning. When you put in a DVD, its the same thing. When you put in an XBOX game... its reading the hardrive, thus... you hear the grinding sound, all its doing is reading the harddrive. I'm about... 90% sure on that one. :thumb:

Hey, just wanted to know if your Xbox DVD drive makes "grinding" noises when it loads games or levels and so on...when it needs to read from the CD, does your drive make noises?
Mines been doing it, not sure if it's normal or not, I never paid attention when it was new. I never abused it or anything, so I don't know why I'd suddenly notice it now.
Sega GT 2002, when the game loads and I'm at the main menu, the clicking/grinding noise never stops! I left it there for 45 minutes, come back, and it's still doing it! Does GT do this to you too?
Also, I don't think my drive is failing, I never had a DRE with my Xbox, never froze up, or anything like that. It just seems weird it makes this noise. :(

Mine sometimes makes a clicking or grinding noise, but I don't think its much to worry about. I think the fixed that in newer models.

So yours will do it occasionally, but not every time it loads?
This is weird...
About how old is yours? I had mine since May 2002 but it was manufactured March 2002.

Mine does that as well, and i had one of the first xbox's.... although, mine does freeze, and have disc errors (because my discs are SHIT) i still think there is nothing to worry about. :thumb:

I don't think mine does. I have had it since March and played it a lot. The only time I had a problem was with Transworld Snowboarding but that was a problem with cutom soundtracks.

Hmm...that should prove insanityX right then.
Nothing to worry about. :)

Yup, nothing to worry about.

Unless it's making wierd noises

I kinda did some "in-depth" testing (well not really but still :P)
When I put in a CD, I get a normal seeking noise (no grind type noise)
When I put in a DVD, I get a normal seeking noise (no grind type noise)
Hell, when I put in discs that the Xbox can't read (computer software, PS2 gam etc.) I get a normal seeking noise (no grind type noise)
When I put in a Xbox game, I then get a grinding nosie. Hmm...

I usually get that, I think thats it loading some of the game.
