Description: The latest edge top 100.

So for those not paying attention
the list is here.
Now I am a huge fan of these top 100 lists. So im ok with them doing this feature and it did make me pick up magazine and go hmm. The fact that they where'nt voted for by the readers this time I thought it might be a better list, and the "to play now part" gave me hope to. But sadly it's not that great.
Zelda OTT is number one. Wich is a bit shit. Yes it is a pretty sweet game (I actully play all the way through it 3 times I liked it so much). But fuck I can think of 20 games I'd rather play easy.
But the shocking thing is the saturn games. Or rather the lack there of. This is exstreamly shocking considering just how much awesome stuff is on the saturn. Well if you have fixed for jap imports....
I'll be bumping my saturn thread again to show this. I own a god 6 or 7 old consoles. And the saturn is easierly my favorite. Radient Silvergun and Guardian Heros are as relevent as ever. So leaveing those off the list was crying shame I think.

No Sonic? Get to eternal fuck, you dicksucking hatemongers.
Indeed, there's not much love for Sega full stop is there?

Hmm. It contains Halo and at least one Final Fantasy game. I think I can safely declare this list invalid and move on.

Quake 3 over Unreal Tournament? Wrong.

I'm not sure what FF is doing on this kind of list: of all the games in the world, you choose to spend hours grinding through these game? As I've said before, I like FFVII, but there's plenty of JRPGs that are much easier going and just as rewarding (if not more rewarding).
Also, Lemmings. On this version (points to the one on his computer) it doesn't have a save option, so why would you spend time on it when there are plenty of other puzzlers (World of Goo springs to mind, though I've only played the demo) that save as you play.
I'm glad that the concept behind the list means some games (which are barely playable nowadays) have been dropped, though that might just be because they've been forgotten (Ultima Underworld II & Ultima 7 spring to mind, pretty much unplayable control-wise, unless someone knows better). But despite the good concept, it's a wasted list: 5 Zeldas, 3 GTAs (all of them the same 3D type), 2 Resident Evils, 2 Metal Gear Solids... it's just a bit silly when you've only got 100 games to choose.
*Edit: I like my top 100s to come with games I haven't played / heard of, and since I've played all the Zeldas, GTAs, REs, MGSs and FFs on the list, I feel the list is wasted, even though I actually like a lot of the games on the lists.

It's ultimately down to personal taste of course but I think Final Fantasy does have a place in such lists. I'm not keen on many of them but in principle the atmosphere they create is their main point. Sure there's lots to criticise but when they look really good and the story somehow drags you in it's great. Not to everyone's taste but it seems fair to suggest you should play one as you could be missing out on a lot by not.
Having repeat Zeldas and GTAs seems a bit silly. And of course MGS isn't a game, it's a watch em up.

There's certainly a good case for the first MGS. It was a massively influential game on the public and games themselves, and was a bold departure for the time. I am reliably told the third is the best one, though.

Outrun should be way higher, and there's no hockey!

Nope, quite right!
UT looks nicer, quake 3 play so much better.

I much preferred Unreal Tournament to Quake 3. Not that I liked either all that much.

*SPOILER for MGS3*
MGS3 is awesome, in a mental way. I mean, at one point you die and you fight ghosts and battle your way back to life. You also get to fight a bee-man, the Predator, have sword fights, have a long range sniper battle, run through a jungle leaving mines to blow up your pursuers, eat snakes and climb trees. At least, I seem to remember you could climb trees. It's stuffed with things no other game has thrown at me in one package. MGS3 is out there man.
