Title: So that EasyCap USB thing from Deal Extreme
Description: video capture thing

I bought one as it was exceedingly cheap. It works pretty well. Unfortunately when I load up the software provided with it and activate the doobry, it knocks out my sound card, which then needs re-installing before it will work.

Other than that, pretty good value for money.

Here's some screens I've taken from this video:

I couldn't get this video recorded on my DVD recorder as it kept jumping all the time despite playing perfectly. So that's a good thing.

First pic is dead, but the second one looks like you're getting bad motion breakup. I found that setting captures to DVD PAL (720x576) and deinterlacing the output got nice-quality results.

To some extent the pictures may be made worse by VLC but I'll experiment. I've got two windows installs on this machine, one is a bit strange. It's that one where my sound card stops working when I use the easycap. I've just managed to get it installed on this seemingly cleaner version of XP (the setup prog just crashes on this but I found the driver folder anyway). I wonder if I can run the Ulead video studio from the other HD. Ah, found the setup prog for the Ulead prog now. The main setup one was crashing. Let's see how we go now..

Right that's that installed. Let's see what happens after a reset.

Indeed it's knocked out my sound again on this install. It's having difficulty doing any capping right now. I'll try on the old install again.

I have read elsewhere that the sound on the easycap is rubbish and you are better off hooking your audio directly up to the line-in on your soundcard and using that.

I'm a bit short of cables that will stretch that far unfortunately but I'll try it. Unfortunately it seems to completely destroy my soundcard if I use it. When I have managed to use it for sound, it's been fine as far as I'm concerned.
