Title: "George Lamb"
Description: the phrase now incorporating "cunt".

jonarob - November 13, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
Does anybody like this man?

I'm sick of his terrible show ruining 6Music with his mockney accent, shit jokes, London-centric attitude and his general overall cunt-ness.

It seems I'm not the only one:

http://www.georgelambisacunt.blogspot.com/

An entire thread (20 pages, 7828 posts) of people complaining about him on the BBC MESSAGEBOARDS:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb6music/F1950413...&skip=0&show=20

A word magazine article full of hatred for the cunt:

Anyone else?

Oh, and sign the petition:

I only really heard about him after the Ray Davies 'interview'.

What a complete twat.

jonarob - November 13, 2008 01:30 PM (GMT)
Indeed. Complain about him! Have your voice heard!

Findus - November 13, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
I listen to 6Music pretty much throughout the whole of my working day apart from Lamb's show. It's absolutely hideous.

As is the Ray Davies interview... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx5oGJD0QdE

Just listened to it. What a cock. Petition signed.

What an idiot. Petition signed.

Lamb is a cunt for sure, but isn't Ray Davies known for being a contrary sod anyway?

I remember him appearing on, I think, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and entirely not playing along with the light-hearted Saturday night japery therein. Surely if you agree to appear on something known to be a little frothy, you should at least make an effort to join in else you end up looking like a bit of a killjoy no matter how shit the thing you're in is.

mud338 - November 13, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
To be fair to Ray Davies I thought he took it pretty well considering how lame the stuff he was being asked was.

Dear Mr Ronson

Thanks for your e-mail regarding George lamb on BBC 6 Music.

I understand you feel that George's show is of a poor quality and that he doesn't play a type of music you feel 6 Music should be playing.

The station's remit hasn't changed and music remains at the heart of BBC 6 Music. The George Lamb show is part of BBC 6 Music's distinctive daytime schedule. George's show includes far more listener responses and audience interactivity - eg texts and emails - than previously, but we don't see this as 'dumbing down' or detracting from the station's remit - it's about inclusivity, widening the discussion and allowing listeners to contribute.

It is worth noting that George Lamb wasn't a new presenter to BBC 6 Music when he took on the show - he's presented the evening show - so was used to the station's style and its audience.

6 Music draws a very diverse range of listeners and we're confident that across our output we offer programming which will appeal to all tastes and George's programme is very much a part of this achievement.

I appreciate that this issue is of much importance to you and I have registered your concerns on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

We are committed to developing better links with you, our audience, to further enhance our understanding of your listening needs and the audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.

Thanks once again for taking the time to contact the BBC.

Regards

Craig O'Connor

Unsurprisingly democratic "fuck off" from the BBC, there. Also, they got my name wrong :(

I never listen to music radio, because I assume it's all roughly like this. I can imagine that this is at the extreme end of radio DJ cuntiness, though.

Have you seen the 6music forums? Last time I looked there was a massive thread complaining about his show in which the moderators had basically lost control and started banning people for saying anything bad about him.

Wonder how many of these include the words 'is a cunt'

George Lamb update: He's still a complete cunt.

There was a nice week last month when he was on holiday and that guy who wrote "Yes Man" took over. But now he's back and being a cunt.

Xeethra - March 12, 2009 10:20 AM (GMT)
I tried to listen to his show and gave up, in a flurry in confusion, after about five minutes of what seemed like random noises...

jonarob - March 12, 2009 10:33 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that's his voice.

Na not really, he likes to play annoying fog horn sounds and stuff, presumably in an ironically hilarious way. But it isn't funny.

I ended up using George Lamb in a lecture about misuse of statistics (I forgot his name, but mentioned that he said "Shabba" a lot), with regard to making someone look better than they actually are.

In conclusion: why did you update the thread? I thought he was going to go for a minute. :(

jonarob - March 12, 2009 11:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah, sorry guys. I updated this thread to remind everyone that this problem is still at large.

Martin Kelner on 6Music in today's Guardian:

[Lesley Joseph's] campaign, a central plank of which was the replacement of Gideon Coe with the supposedly more female-friendly George Lamb, ranks in success somewhere between Balaclava and Napoleon's invasion of Russia.

jonarob - March 17, 2009 01:19 PM (GMT)
Good stuff. I admit, I get a little carried away with my hatred of Lamb, but what really annoys me is 6 Music's Radio 1 combined with Radio 2 output. As noted in the article, what's the fucking point? Very occasionally, they'll put a Pixies song on that I haven't heard in a while or something else that would never usually appear on the radio, but that's what it should be like constantly.

Glider - March 17, 2009 06:38 PM (GMT)
I don't really listen to the radio at all so I'm more or less insulated from George Lamb, but... Mancunian readers may or may not be interested to know someone in Withington has grafitti'd the Lamb-shout "Shabba" on a wall near the library.

This is a bummer. George Lamb sounds like a douche. I like Withington. It disappoints me that someone on my turf would impose this on my bus journey.

Perhaps it's a reference to Ray Von from Phoenix Nights?

Ah, remember when Peter Kay was funny, because he had Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice writing with him? Seems implausible now.

Anyway, on topic: George Lamb is a cunt. 6Music should be ideal for me - it's supposedly for people who are "passionate about rock and pop", and should be for people who are too old for Radio 1 but not old enough for Radio 2, and should play music that features on neither station. In reality, as Jonarob said, it's an unsatisfactory mish-mash of both. Occasionally Lamacq will play something good, Marc Riley's show is often interesting, and Gideon Coe is consistently excellent, but the daytime schedule leaves a lot to be desired, the nadir being Lamb.

Saying "with" him blesses him with more talent than he seems to have, if his solo/McGuinness written material is anything to go by.

I listen to Absolute these days, and that's pretty much it in terms of radio. It's very mainstream classic/modern rock/pop but very good with it. They played the entirety of Fleetwood Mac's rumours album one night last week, without adverts or interruptions. Ideal for me.

6Music is caught between a rock and a hard place; if they go too mainstream, the station loses purpose and the ability to justify itself. If they go the other way, they get no listeners, the print-media (Mail) whinges, and the station struggles to justify itself.
