For clarity's sake - does the main forum include the Goal Club?

Liquid Reverse - March 31, 2008 06:23 PM (GMT)
It says that subscribers can "edit their own profile info" - does mean that us non-subbing plebs lose our avatars and things?

No, but you won't be able to change them any more.

Marco Gazpacho - March 31, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
So...a lot of people got in a huff over this?

Seeing as I've created about...5 or so topics in two years, I think I might be able to stick around, as long as someone starts a Doctor Who thread each year...

jonarob - March 31, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
Rule #12439: NO DOCTOR WHO THREADS.

Don't you read, man? :)

Dr_Octagon - March 31, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Man come april first I am so starting a queen thread. AS A SUBSCRIBER IT IS MY RIGHT.

Hugh - March 31, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Do you mean Her Majesty the Queen, Dr Octagon?

No, a lot of people got ina huff about the original, vastly different, plan.

Dogmonkey - March 31, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
Oh, and now I can't edit my mistake.

No, this is the immense climbdown after people got upset.

Or perhaps it was instead that someone in the star members forum suggested this slight change of plan which Stu hadn't thought of so he decided to implement this one instead.

Dudley - March 31, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
Nope.

thr0b - March 31, 2008 09:19 PM (GMT)
I agree with Nirejhenge. Stuart always said he was open to suggestions, just not necessarily that he would agree with them. And this one, he did. Hurrah!

Oh, do fucking behave.

Marco Gazpacho - March 31, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
So, someone said original idea of forum subscription was flawed, offered constructive criticism to make it better, and suggestion was implemented. It's almost like there's a moral to this, or something.

And this way, of course, the spambots will still be gone and I, the self-confessed freeloader, can still spout drivel like this. Hurrah!

Yeah. Learn all the details of an incident before making sarky comments.

Dudley - April 1, 2008 07:43 AM (GMT)
I'm very aware of all details, including those that were deleted thanks.

RevStu - April 1, 2008 07:46 AM (GMT)
Then stop talking shit. I see absolutely no prospect of this bringing back the people who went to WoCUS, and don't want it to. It's simply a practical response to a sensible suggestion about a new situation. What you possibly hope to achieve by wrongly labelling it a "immense climbdown" utterly escapes me. Do please explain the positive outcome you anticipate resulting from that comment.

Lave - April 1, 2008 09:25 AM (GMT)
This is a lot better. Kudos on making the change Mr Stu.

fozmcfc - April 1, 2008 10:15 AM (GMT)
I thought this was an April Fools joke, paying to access parts of a forums, but evidently it is not. :o

I just hope the subscribers are regular thread creaters or it will be quieter than Stamford Bridge around here.

I am now a sub, and I create threads in my sleep...

:)

Graham_S - April 1, 2008 10:34 AM (GMT)
Hurray! I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that I'll now be continuing to post about once every month, in a fairly innocuous and underwhelming fashion as usual. I'm happy this has been resolved, and hope things can carry on pretty much as they were, once everyone's tempers have subsided. I'd have missed checking in on all you lot if things had all gone properly tits up. I hope you've not all pissed off to the Super Members folder or that other forum.

Pod - April 1, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
Oh shut up all of you and get on with it.*

*it being posting.

See, even Spinglo Sponglo! is happy now. All is right with the world!

Dogmonkey - April 2, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
So now normal users CAN read and reply in the Goal club forum?

RevStu - April 2, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
Whoops!

Dogmonkey - April 2, 2008 04:48 PM (GMT)
Damn, I just had a 5 paragraph reply written out. *runs away*

GoddessJasmine - April 2, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
Apparently my messages are full, but there is nothing in my in box or out box. Colour me confused!

Is this still the case? Anyone else having the same problem?

Yes, I still have messenger FULL, even with no messages in there.

Rob M - April 6, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
For what it's worth:
I've got the 5 PMs i've ever received, and the 1 I had the presence of mind to save in the Sent folder. However, with none (as far as I can see) hiding elsewhere, it tells me I've used up 9 of my allowed 50, and thereby 18%. It's conceivable that those extra three are ones I've sent that I didn't save to the Sent folder, and are still being counted anyway.

So if you've sent loads, even without keeping a copy, perhaps it's counting those regardless? There's some archive/clearance options knocking around in there that people who are having problems could perhaps try.

CornerUnitSofa - April 6, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
Yes, I thought you'd be noticing this about now. Whilst I was PMing everyone here to tell them of the awesome other forum, I made sure to leave a little 'surprise' behind, to go off April 1st. Checkmate, I think.

Yes. It says I have 50 of my 50 allowed messages still. I've tried every option in the left hand menu to no avail.

I have no idea what CUS is talking about, but I hope he's joking.

Stop being a cunt, CUS!

CornerUnitSofa - April 6, 2008 06:50 PM (GMT)
But that's my 'thing'.

RevStu - April 6, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Okay, looks like there's only one way to maybe fix this. From midnight tonight (actually now, but we'll say midnight for neatness) I'll lift the restrictions on PM mailboxes FOR 48 HOURS ONLY, to hopefully give people the chance to recover anything they need to recover and delete the rest, which should make space for new ones. (I'm guessing that the problem is that the software doesn't know what to do when your limit is 50 and you've already got 300.) After that the limit for non-subbers will be reimposed, so if you haven't sorted it by then you're out of luck.

GoddessJasmine - April 6, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
I've just checked and both my inbox and outbox are showing as empty. Yet there is a message at the top saying my folders are 10% full and 'You have 50 messages out of 500 maximum storable messages'. I swear there is nothing there, I'd do screen grabs if I could host 'em!

ETA: I've just sent myself a couple of messages, it put my count up to 52 and it's let me delete them fine, but then it is still saying the same as before.

I'm going to sleep on it I think.

GoddessJasmine - April 7, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
Still no change. :(
