Physical Description: I’m about 5’6” so not very tall. I have my mother’s body and look almost exactly like her, except not fully grown. I was turned in the middle of my last growth spurt probably, leaving me looking awkwardly between a girl and a woman. I have hips, smallish-breasts, but a round and girlish face. It’s a good effect if you’re in high school, like I’ve pretended to be for the past three years now.
I wear clothing that is slightly out of style because it’s cheapest. I find second-hand stores and make due with what I can find there. I try to shower as often as possible, but it’s hard when you live in a school that has guards in it just about the whole night.
My skin still has a tanned look to it, though is paler than the caramel color it had been in life. I have piercings all up my ears that were my choice when I had been alive, and several inky black tattoos across my body that were forced there. My hair is long. Almost to my waist and inky black in color. My eyes are a dark gray, like my fathers.
Snapshot of Me:
History: Well, my human life until about six months until my death and turning was boring. I went to school, I hung out with my friends, I started looking for a part time job and was looking forward to learning how to drive. But that’s all really. I didn’t know about vampires, I didn’t know that anything beyond the ordinary existence.
I was on my way home from a friend’s house one afternoon, the sun had already set for the winter day. It was foolish for me to go out alone, I shouldn’t have done that. Because for the past few months… Girls had been disappearing. They’d been snatched off after dark never to be heard from again and no bodies were ever found. But like every teenager, I never thought it would happen to me.
Two men came out of nowhere, slamming me to the ground and I remember seeing a pale face, and then nothing… Nothing for a long while.
When I woke up, I was cold… Shivering uncontrollably. Laying naked on frozen stone, I sat up. I was in a dark cave… A fire burned towards the entrance and craving the warmth I moved towards it to see a plate of food, a small camping kettle that I could put into the fire for hot water. As hungry as I was I ate it quickly, not knowing when the last time I had eaten was. There must have been some drug in the food though as I soon slipped into a stupor. Several dark hooded figures approached me then, wrapping me in thick furs like a burrito. The smell soothed me, as it reminded me of when I was little and my grandmother would wrap me in old furs as she told me stories of her people.
I slipped into what I thought was sleep… With dreams of dark figures, fire… Blood. Lots of blood. I was placed on an alter spread eagle on my back with my arms and legs all but dangling over the edge. A thin cut had been made along each limb and the shadows gathered, murmuring words in a language I didn’t know, though it sounded familiar. Their cold lips, as cold as the ice or the air that was around me, pressed against my skin.
When I woke up, I was screaming. I checked my arms and legs, which were still bare, though a bundle of furs lay next to me now, as well as a pile of clothing, warm weather clothing.
I pulled them on quickly, grateful for the warmth I could now retain.
“You are our goddess…” A voice came from the shadows, making me jump almost into the fire. “Our Goddess takes care of us, provides us, nurtures us…”
“Who are you!” I demanded.
“We are a people who have been exiled to the ends of the earth… People who have been persecuted for millennia because of what we believe and how we believe. Quamainq, you will serve as our goddess until she has called you home.”
Okay, so I’d been kidnapped by some religious fanatics who’d happened to know my name. They were crazy, I determined. I had no clue what was going on, but I was going to find out. When I saw the sun peaking through the entrance of my cave, I ran out. Only to find myself on the edge of a cliff that dropped fifty feet or more into the sea. I was trapped. There was no way I could get down, even if I had the right equipment.
It was a few nights later that I slipped into the same stupor that I had when I had the other dream. This time, along with the gashes on my arms and legs, they marked me with a circle, backed with two crescent moons just between and above my breasts. When I woke… The mark was there, though the scars were gone….
For almost a year I lived like this… Sometimes new marks would appear on my body, but it didn’t do any good to ask whatever shrouded figure appeared. I lost count of them… Some were just lines, some were symbols that meant nothing to me. After a while, I started to go mad. It had been months since I’d talked to a human, or seen one other than a solitary figure that came spoke a few words and left.
I couldn’t take it anymore… I couldn’t deal with the confinement, the aloneness…. I wanted to end it… And I knew how. When I saw the plate off food… the drugged meal I knew… I couldn’t stand another night. Stripping out of the clothing, I ran over the ice in the front of the cave, the cold burning my feet. But that didn’t matter. The rush of air around my face as I lept to my death was peaceful… Serene… I wouldn’t have to be alone anymore.
I know I should have died… The water was like a wall as it hit me. I knew that I’d been hurt just on the fall alone. So when I woke up, I screamed. My attempt at freedom was only a dream… I hadn’t lept. But… it wasn’t cold anymore. And nothing hurt. The tattoos were still on my body, but otherwise I felt fine. And I must have been safe. Rescued by real people, I was back in the world.
No… I was just on the other side of the window. I was one of them now.
When I opened my eyes, I saw the faces of three men and a woman above me. “Welcome sister…” I wasn’t sure which one had spoken. They all seemed so alike. “Your injuries had been severe and we could not loose our Goddess.” Their smiles, meant to reassure, only terrified me further. I rebelled against the knowledge when they told me what I was. It wasn’t possible was it? It wasn’t real that vampires existed…
But as they brought a young man to me, I couldn’t help the compulsion… He came to me so willing, his hands touched my body so intimately. I hadn’t even noticed that the others had left, I was so preoccupied with the man that all else faded. I felt a darker instinct in me take over, and I did what I wanted to do. I bit in hard at his neck, I drained his blood, shocked to see his body then laying limp on the floor, still tasting the crimson delight on my lips.
I tried to run then, my new strength and speed allowing me to get almost to the mainland… But I was caught, and for my betrayal attempt, I was thrown into a prison, worse than the cave before because that wouldn’t have held me now.
They starved me… They used me… If I wanted blood, I had to have sex with whoever brought me my meal. Sometimes I went almost two weeks without it because I resisted so well… But I had to give in every time… I had to.
I was there almost a year then when fear spread through the camp, the shelter we had here. I heard the shreaks of terror and pain. I smelt burning flesh and blood. A vampire… So old I cried out in fear just from his aura grabbed me, his fist tight around my neck. His mind burned into mine and saw everything I knew… Everything that I had ever known. He placed me down and turned from me as he said. “Remember what you see here today young one… The foolish… The inept… Will all pay.” His voice made me tremble with fear and I passed out.
Everything was quiet when I woke. And I ran… I ran and I swam from the fortress that they’d made, their little coven… And I never looked back. I wanted to go home, but my parents already thought I was dead. So there was no point… Traveling, working odd jobs along the way, I wound up in Demaitre. I live now in one of the high schools, storing everything up in the ceiling tiles and sleeping there when I’m bored. I know how to get in and out without anyone bothering me, and take classes there as well when I feel like.
