Title: A Night- Interrupted
Description: Nikolaos
Seraphina - April 1, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
The night was young, for it was only an hour after Dusk. Seraphina had been out since the sun’s setting, as usual, so as not to miss a single moment of the action. If there was one thing that bothered her, it was the solitary confinement that the sun brought her. She dreaded the times where she was left to think without communicating her emotions to another. She hated the silence and repetitiveness that sometimes came with being a creature of her kind.
The atmosphere of The Tequila gave her the opposite effect. This club, to her, was paradise for now. The sounds of the band on the stage, of the people cheering and talking, of shoes tapping on the hard floor as the drunken mortals around her jumped and danced. The smells of alcohol and perfume- It all gave her a bit of a rush, not linked to any need for blood. She liked that.
The place was so full of fun, happiness, and one simple thing she seemed to have lost for a number of years- life. These mortals clouded their minds to the future and lived for that day only. They let go of their self-image problems and they let down their walls for a few hours of making complete fools of themselves. It was absolutely beautiful.
Sera leaned against the left wall, smiling as she watched a number of mortals start a small circle of dancers. She found herself in a calm mood, for some strange reason, as her bright hazel eyes fixed upon that one particular cluster of bodies. The group consisted of a number of partying guys and a few attractive females- They were all around 5’9-6’0, with hair and makeup totally in place and short dresses that left little to the imagination. She had to admit to their beauty, thought she had no clue why anyone would spend that much time on dolling up just to sweat it all off.
She bottled up a laugh before it could come out. No wonder no one was noticing her- the others towered over her and put effort into everything they did. Sera showed up in a pair of flared jeans, green flats, and a green t-shirt with a purple “recycle” symbol printed to the front of it. Her hair was barely even brushed and shoved up into a messy bun at the back of her head. She was definitely not seeming very refined at that point, nor did she care. She just found the shallowness of some people to be extremely amusing.
She skipped happily over to the bar area and ordered a tequila. She didn’t know why she wasted money on drinking alcohol anymore, especially since it didn’t really do anything for her. She just couldn’t help it sometimes- she was accustomed to the taste and still kind of liked it.
The bartender gave her a bit of an apprehensive look. “Got ID?” he asked. To that, she had to laugh. She’d been turned into a vampire at age 33, and yet she still got carded in places like this. She usually blamed it on the poor lighting (the fact that her face was not totally visible) and her slender, close to curve-free build. As she laughed, he continued to look at her until she nodded and took out the ID that she’d had falsely made. It said her name and it had her picture on it, but she couldn’t imagine someone’s reaction if ever they were to read her birth date as 03/06/1912. Surely they’d either see a typo or turn her in for falsifying records… which was technically what she was doing to prevent that reaction.
As the bartender gave her a nod and turned around to make her drink, her ears picked up a sound that didn’t seem so pleasant. She couldn’t exactly see past the massive crowd of people from one side of the room to the other, but she couldn’t shake the fact that there could be something wrong. She tilted her head a little to the left and immediately began to head towards the strange noise…
Nikolaos - April 2, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
Hands gripped his throat with an unbelievable strength. He tried to protest, tried to scream while his hands clawed at hers, leaving scrathes in her flawless skin.
Her laugh sent a shiver down his spine as she threw her head back and laughed- madness glinting in those wintry eyes. The sensation of her laugh on the air was like freezer-burn. It so cold, but it burned and teared at the skin. He began to panic and writhed about as an eel would in her clutches. Let go! Let go! he thought, but he knew his thoughts meant nothing. he meant nothing. Everything.... everything he was- didn't matter. Why wouldn't she let go?
He winced, trying to speak again, but found he had no voice. Air wasn't getting into his lungs. He couldn't breathe! He couldn't breathe! He began to "freak out," his eyes growing wide as he realized he was about to die. The fear brought a wicked smile to her face as she flashed fangs at him. Wait, fangs? And with that final thought, his throat was torn away and everything went red.... then black... than blacker.... as he fell down, down into the deep, dark abyss....
The murderess stepped away. It wasn't her first offense. It wasn't her second. She kicked the body in the stomach after the blood had stopped squirting from the neck.
"Goodnight" she murmured as her foot cracked his ribs. It didn't take much effort to break his bones. Maybe she should have done that before killing him. It was a pretty thought, so she mentally made a note to herself not to kill before breaking bones. It was so much more fun to see the anguish and pain on their faces before the lights went out.
Carina Durr had once been a compassionate and faithful Jew, but the actions of mankind had disgusted her and in her mind, they all deserved what they got. She had her reasons. She was justified in everything she did. If the camp had taught her anything before she had found the covens, it was that humans didn't matter. Life didn't matter. So now? Now she wallowed in death and blood- letting her unquenchable wrath control her freely. She was finally free, free of her brother's restraint, free to do whatever she pleased, free to let go.
Only one drop of blood had fallen on her bare shoulder as his throat was slit. She smiled. That was good. Her speed was getting faster. She had jumped away as the blood squirted from the delicious jugular. Carina smiled wickedly, eyes on the dead man as she licked the blood off her shoulder with a slender pink tongue.
She didn't bother to move the man. There were no bites, so the Amman would be pleased that she hadn't left any signs of her doings. However, the Amman would probablly be pissed that she killed a man for no good reason. No. No, she had a reason. He was blonde, and has bright blue eyes. His body was muscled and fair. he looked just like the picture on the poster. He looked Aryan. He looked "German." His appearance had disgusted her and she followed him towards the nightclub scene and cornered him in an alley. She didn't even bother to introduce herself. She just killed him.
Satisfied with the rush of the kill, Carina continued his route- making her way to The Tequila, a place she liked to frequent because Konrad didn't work there. Sure, she loved her brother, but he was naive and didn't truly understand the power they had.... the power she had.
Miss Durr entered the club, uncarded- for she looked twenty three. She gave a few people at the door an iced smile as she walked in. The room seemed to chill a little bit as she entered, a drafty aura about her. Within seconds of being inside, however, Carina pulled her icy nature inward and let her presence fade into the crowd, not really feeling like being detected. She only wanted to play human and dance a bit, maybe even find a bite to eat. The night was still so young and there were so many hot-blooded mortals.
Her attire quickly drew attention to her, but not because it was slutty. It was her confidence that rocked the outfit. For she wore only a simple black wifebeater with a baby blue bra under it and a pair of faded blue jeans that matched her icy eyes. Her shoes were simple white nikes, never stained of marred by any dirt or mud. She took good care of her clothes. Her boy short hair was spiked and her eyes sparkled painfully with the glittered liner she wore.
She wasn't playign the part of a girly-girl tonight. She was just being herself and enjoying the freedoms of freedom. Her confident strut brought her a dance partner and she fell into the crowd with him, barely aware of him. She was only aware of the pounding hearts around her. The music didn't matter- only the beating hearts mattered. Their rythm, their pulse.... that was the true music.
Seraphina - April 2, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
What had sounded like a fight scene to her seemed apparently nonexistent as Sera approached the door. Nobody fought with bouncers or exchanged words of hate; nothing was broken or out of place. This confused her, for she was nearly certain that she had heard the most unpleasant sounds of human pain. She knew those sounds all too well, and she was certain something had happened.
Her footsteps slowed as her expression turned to one of total confusion. Perhaps her suppressed feelings were finally getting to her and she was going into some sort of flashback mode. Or maybe she just judged the instance's distance to be a bit closer than it actually was. Yes... that could be it. She could go farther to investigate, though it was not her business, and she could find out what made the air stir and gave her this uncomfortable feeling.
She hesitated as her hand moved toward the door handle, and someone approached during this hesitation. She politely backed up to allow the woman through, and then couldn't help but to stare at her for a moment. She was slightly shorter than Sera's, with icy blue eyes and short black hair. The woman seemed calm enough, if not too much so. She quickly made a mental note that the woman was definately of Jewish descent. She didn't know why she took so much time to look at the woman as she passed, but she was definately curious.
Pushing her curiosity away and directing her gaze away from the woman, Sera opened the door and forced herself outside. She looked around cautiously, only to see that nothing seemed to be wrong at all. "What am I, crazy?" she asked herself in a hushed voice. She was about to nod and head back inside, confirming the affirmative answer to her question by answering herself, but she didn't do that just yet. She smelled the slightest hint of blood and she saw a little boy looking, with horror in his eyes, at a spot in the alleyway.
She moved toward the child with a speed she shouldn't be showing and kneeled next to him before she caught sight of the body. She cleared her throat in disgust, then looked up at the boy who stood beside her- he, like the man, had blonde hair and bright blue eyes. "Do you know him?" she asked quietly. The boy shook his head, but continued to sob. "Why are you out in the dark?"
She thought it was hopeless for a moment as the kid just stood there and looked at her, but then he answered in a whisper. "I live there." he pointed to the second floor of an apartment building, "Out here... someone killed him."
His hand shook, and she brought it down to her level and kept it in her own. "Listen." she said, "It's not safe to be out here alone right now. Some people will do things like this when no one's looking- they're not nice, and they don't know how important a human life is." The kid's eyes had cleared up a bit with her distraction, and to that she offered a closed-mouth smile. "Why don't you go home and get some sleep? I'm sure the police will find out about this in the morning. Try not to think of this, ok?" She would never tell a child to call in on a murder, and though she was terrible at erasing or even lessening memories, she managed to cloud this one a bit for the child's sake. She hated to see such an innocent creature witness something so gruesome.
When she saw that the kid had gone inside, away from the nightlife of the city, she approached the alley to get a closer look at the body. The poor man's ribs had been broken. There were also marks around his throat, as though he'd been chocked. But there was something wrong with the size of those marks- they were significantly smaller than they should have been for someone with enough strength to leave them.
She immediately thought this must have been a vampire kill- but no feeding had happened. She looked disappointed in whatever creature had done this. She really was bothered by the fact that one of her kind could kill someone so... needlessly. Though she and the Amman had their differences (she thought they were way too old-fashioned and full of themselves), she was sure that they would agree on that one. Whatever vampire did this might just have some trouble coming to them, but she would do nothing to make that vampire's fate come any faster. This was none of her concern no matter how much it disgusted her.
She began to back away, then her mind flashed back to one of the SS officers who had taken her away back in Germany all those years ago. She tilted her head once more, then nodded at her thoughts- Yeah, this guy definitely bore a striking resemblance to him. She thought that might make this whole scene seem more acceptable to her, but it didn't. She walked away quickly and re-entered the club looking distracted and bothered.
Her thoughts went from the man in the alley to the woman she'd seen at the door, but her mind did not make the connection. Still, she found herself watching the woman again as she danced.
Nikolaos - April 5, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Carina fell into the moving crowd with ease, her body being passed around as the music filled her mind and soul, not themusic of the band, but the music of their hearts.
Her arms reached towards the sky and her hips moved gracefully with the notes counted out by the hearts. The tempo sped up as the band played a faster song. Bodied pressed against hers, enveloping her int heir warmth and their life. She breathed it all in, twirling, her icy eyes catching those of another for a breif moment. Vampiress.
Carina twirled again and noted that she still watched her. She looked down at her arm unconmsciously and noted that her tatoo coverup was working. Even with the sweat of the humans.... her number would not show. She could never show her number again, never shove her pain and her suffering into those guards that had haunted her from the day she was liberated. She wished she could kill everyone all over again.
Her anger pressed into her partner as she grabbed him too tightly and he let out a yelp. Carina forcd a sweet smile and all was forgotton as the music enveloped them again. She twirled and moved through the crowd, her dancing almost ballet-like but with a grinding twist. Her legs and arms waved with the crowd as their motions combined- as they moved as one. Bodied pressed in around her as she closed her eyes, listening to their hearts. Let the other vampire watch- Carina didn't give a damn.
Icicle eyes opened as Carina licked her lips, finding a man in the crowd to wrap her cold body around. She kissed his neck, relishing in the pulse but not silencing it. She only wanted to be closer to the rythm, to the heartbeat, to the pulse of the crowd. The German woman turned to meet the strange vampires eyes and arched an eyebrow at her.
Seraphina - April 5, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
Sera sipped from her glass of alcohol calmly, paying only mild attention to the rest of the place. She could tell that other woman- the vampiress- knew she was there. She could tell by the most brief glance she was offered that the other knew exactly what she was, though not who. She reached out with her mind and sensed nothing but apathy. No emotions but those coming from the cold, calculating mind of a skilled huntress. Perfect. she thought, There's a vengeful vampire in a crowd full of innocent people who, apparently, believes that she is justified in having a personal vendetta against them all. Well, she'd just have to see about that. Seraphina Cohen was no ancient, but she was wise enough to know that misplaced emotions lead only to chaos.
Her eyes narrowed through the fog-like atmosphere brought about by the head and lights so she could continue to keep her attention on the other. An arched brow met her peering gaze and her expression changed again to curiosity as she found herself getting off the tall barstool and heading for the center of the crowd. She didn't know why she was approaching- she had no desire to associate with vampires who killed for sport and she had nothing specific to say. She just had this impulsive feeling that if she let the opportunity of meeting up with this one go, she would be allowing something very bad to happen. Why she though that way? She had absolutely no idea.
She stopped a few feet from where the mortal and vampire danced and gave the man an arch look. "You," she said in a soft, strange German-Hebrew accent, "Could benefit from a few dance classes." Her gaze then went back to the other as she tried to find a way to say that she knew about her random kill and was curious about it. Not to mention, she was curious to know why she didn't mask her aura or scent from it. "And you may want to clean up your... disasters."
Ok, so it didn't exactly come out the way she had expected. In fact, she sounded a bit like a nanny referring to a messy childhood playroom, but what the hell? If all the club goers all thought she was some anal neat-freak stalker, she was fine with it. At least then she could say she would never be stuck making a list of the dumbest pick-up lines ever used on her.
She quickly noticed the slightly amused look that had decorated her face at the image of an 'old lady' in a dusty floral dress and immediately got rid of it. She was not amused. She was curious and slightly angry at the fact that a child had seen the remains of this vampiress' act.
Nikolaos - April 5, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
The woman who stared began to move towards her as Carina arched her eyebrow. Carina laughed softly against her partner’s skin and kissed his neck, her eyes never leaving the fellow vampiress as she wrapped her arms around the man's body possessively.
As the vampires suggested classes for him and cleanup for her, Carina laughed, her laughter as abrasive as her eyes. It was lyrical, but with a hard cold edge to it that made the man she was holding shudder. She kissed his neck and the shudders stopped as she pulled away from him, falling into the crowd, her iced eyes still laughing.
"That's what maids are for...." she whispered, sure the other vampire would hear it. Carina fell into the crowd again, bodied colliding with hers as hands ran themselves over her body, the faint warmth of their hands heating her body, if only temporarily.
"Enjoy the club... Why should it matter to you what I do for enjoyment" Carina hissed as she twirled in the crowd, her spiked hair the only means of distinguishing her from the mass of heated bodies moving together in an enigma of culture.
The heartbeats only lulled Carina into a smile. Of course, she kept an eye on the other vampiress as she danced, not willing to trust her, not willing to let her get a cheap shot if she wished to punish her. But she wasn't an Amman, or a coven leader. She had no right to punish or chastise. Besides, Carina would rip her fucking throat out before she got the chance. There was the chance that she could end up getting killed, but Carina had taken to looking at the positives of this living death lately. The woman wasn't much of a threat, probably equal in age to Carina, but nothing special to be feared. But not one to be underestimated.
"I'm Carina...." she breathed through the music as she fell into the arms of another man, smiling as he moved with her, entranced by a confidence and possibly by her inhumanity. Might as well give the woman a name. Besides, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. If she had a tiff with the Jewish Holocaust survivor.... she should make nice.
Seraphina - April 6, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
"It matters." Sera stated simply in response to the other vampire's remark, "If a life ends at the hands of a cold-blooded killer for no particular reason, it's everyone's concern. That's called being out of control." Her voice was barely more than a whisper, quiet to a point that only this other vampire would be able to hear. People in the crowd looked at her with odd expressions, as though her presence bothered them slightly. She shrugged it off as usual and kept her attention where it had been the past few minutes.
Carina. she thought, So there's a name for cruelty... she stared at Carina with a level expression until she decided it wouldn't hurt anything to let this woman know who she was. "Seraphina." she said, "Sera works. Some leave it at Cohen."
She let her gaze move from Carina when she felt something pulsing against her side. A man was grinding on her, obviously in an attempt to gain a dance partner. The heartbeat brought about a certain bloodlust and made her eyes show brighter, which she cerainly did not like. She quickly gave the guy a push in the opposite direction and put a few steps' distance between them before placing the green sunglasses over her eyes. She could never let her vampire nature overrun her humanity like that. If she ever did, she was sure it would be the last time. She had no clue how Carina could stand it, but then- they obviously didn't view the situation in the same light.
She crossed her arms in front of her and shook her head. She'd come here to observe mortals, and she'd ended up observing another immortal. She had gone looking for life, and all she found was death and destruction. Did nothing ever work out simply pleasant? Honestly, the world seemed full of unnecessary hatred and cruelty with no love or peace to cancel any of it out. She noted those thoughts, but also the fact that she was a little too optimistic by thinking that such good things might actually exist in the minds of others.
She sighed and sought out Carina again: "So do you have something against the world or are you just sadistic?"
Nikolaos - April 7, 2008 12:33 AM (GMT)
"Control? We are all turned to either be freed of something or be controlled by someone. I was turned for freedom and I intend to use my freedom as I see fit. I was justified in killing him. He looked- familiar and I didn't like it.... it was his fault," Carina explained, meeting Sera's eyes another time.
The wintry eyes flashed and a wicked smile wrapped around Carina's small mouth. "Sera? What a beautiful name...." she remarked, twirling into another pair of arms.
Carina felt Seraphina's heart race as the man touched her, his own heart's rhythm enticing her. Sera's eyes glowed with a joy that Carina had only seen before in Hale. She arched an eyebrow as Sera put on a pair of odd glasses.
"Honestly Sera--" she murmured, moving through the crowd again, turning away from her slightly but still aware of her presence. "There's really no need to hide. I know your desire for blood is as primitive as mine. Why do you hide it when I can feel it? There's nothing to be ashamed of older sister of mine...." But Sera was only older by a few years, Carina could feel age in her bones, like a slight ache.
"Why can't you just fall into the rhythm?" Carina continued, meeting another dance partner and wrapping her leg around him as she fell back, her back arching as she stared at Sera whilst upside-down.
"What's so wrong with succumbing to my nature? One cannot fight what one is...." Carina added, pulling herself up, kissing her partner- and moving on to another. "What?" she asked as Sera eyed her curiously. "Worried I'm gonna take another oh-so-precious-life?"
A low but freezing cold laugh escaped her throat after her last comment, singing the air with a frosted bite.
Seraphina - April 7, 2008 01:57 AM (GMT)
Sera cut Carina a narrow-eyed look that she was sure the woman would be able to sense even through the dark sunglasses. "You cannot possibly be serious." she said, pushing through a couple of more dancing people to make completely sure that Carina showed no hint of sarcasm on her face. None.... un-fucking-believable. "Do I need to give you some sort of genetics lesson? Blonde hair and blue eyes aren't a choice, you're kind of born with them, you know? They're hereditary. Sure, he looked like one of... them, but that doesn't mean he was." She shook her head, "Do you honestly believe that it's ok to go kill someone because that person looks like one of those Aryan bastards with their guns and gas champers?"
She wiped any expression off her face. She had to admit she did get a disgusted feeling every time she saw someone who looked like that, but it was nowhere close to a justification for murder. "The past is behind us- You can choose to sit here and use that past as an excuse for leisure killing or you can forget about it and try to make something better of the world. Go with door number one and you're really no different than the Nazis were."
She turned away from Carina when she called her out on hiding. It was true that she hid her nature a lot more than most vampires did, but it was for her own good and the good of those poor mortals that may have found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. An irritated tick started in her jaw and she grinded at her fangs with each movement. "I don't need to hide anything from you." she said simply, then indicated the crowd. "It's them I'm worried about. Most of them have done nothing to deserve any dark fate." She stopped her sentence short to give a warning- "And don't use the 'it happened to us' argument. You know what it is to suffer, Carina, I know you do. It's just plain wrong to wish it on anyone else when you know what it does to people."
She let no emotion out as she spoke. She knew this woman could get her thinking and mess with her head if she really wanted to, and Sera wouldn't let that happen. She definitely did not like this Carina, similar as they may be. She was cold, cruel, and out to punish anyone around to remind her of the past.
"What? Worried I'm gonna take another oh-so-precious-life?" the words took a moment to register, and she came back with a semi-sarcastic remark.
"What the hell would I do about it? I'm not here pretending to be tough." she replied, "I'm just trying to find out why, because you're wrong you know. Lack of compassion is brainwash. Learned behavior." she arched a brow then, challenging Carina with her words. "Not to mention with all of your attraction antics and kissing sprees, I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible for a vampire to contract herpes."
Nikolaos - April 10, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
"Aryan bastards?" Carina asked, a lilt in her voice as she smiled wickedly. "Reliveing the past aren't we, Sera?" She couldn't help but laugh at her mention of the Holocaust, what she referred to. How did she even know that Carina was one of them? Had simply assumed or could she see the number on Carina's arm? Carina looked down, almost nervously to see that where the first number was, there was a flash of a blue line. The makeup was wearing.
Ah well. Who'd notice but Sera?
Sera posed her ridiculous door number one slash door number two scenario and Carina looked up.
"Us? Us?" she asked, a little disgusted that this weak compassionate vampire could possibly compare herself with her. "Us? You don't know where the fuck I've been...." she hissed, that snakelike sound switching to laughter as her eyes lost their malice. "No better than the Nazis? I'm no better? What about you? When was the last time you fed? Tell me you've never killed a human. Better yet- tell me you've never wanted to...." her tone was hushed but deadly. She knew she could get into this girl's head, without vampire wiles. They were so close in age, almost equally matched, but Carina had been tailing an ancient for awhile and was quite sure her fighting skills had improved.... but that was only if their disagreement ever turned into a brawl.
"They don't deserve it?" Carina asked, her tone curious. "Oh, I think they do. Everyone's a sinner dearie and everyone deserves to die. Didn't the Nazis teach you that? Everyone dies. Everyone rots in hell for one reason or another." Carina froze for a moment as Sera mentioned the suffering of the German twin.
"Life isn't fair, suffering happens. Get the fuck up and move on- unfortunately, those who suffer by my hands never get up," she shot at the other vampire, intending to sting. Carina didn't kill all her victims, but a good majority of them- yes, yes, they died.
"Lack of compassion?" she whispered, her voice turning soft. "I don't know the meaning of compassion anymore so don't try to preach. You're no angel, no saint sent from heaven. My nature doesn't allow for compassion. My life never allowed for compassion. I cannot have compassion for anyone because they stole every emotion from me and fed me hate!" Carina growled, her voice rising only a bit as she squeezed so hard on her partner's arm that it broke. He yelped and she pushed him into the crowd so that she could walk towards Sera, a storm brewing across her clear icy ice.
The storm broke within an instant, all cloud and fog erased from her eyes as her iced blue eyes smiled with her small dangerous mouth.
"You should know vampires can't contract viruses. Herpes simplex, which causes the sores you're referring to, is a virus. The inability to catch illness definitely is a vampire perk." Carina smirked. "Wanna try to save my soul again? This time to my face? Because I thought I'd give you a fair chance, since you're doing such a shitty job from across the dance floor."
Seraphina - April 10, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Sera listened to Carina's rant (or rather, attack), thinking of responses the whole way through. She didn't believe it for a second. Everyone wore facades, including vampires. Unfortunately, those fronts went a little too far for a lot of them. She decided not to try interrupting or replying. She just stood there silently, taking Carina's harsh words and cuts at her with only the slightest of flinches. The woman had succeeded, she was bothered and the words were implanting themselves into her thoughts... but she was not angry, and she refused to stoop to that level of emotion. Anger, like revenge, could only hurt. Still, she didn't know exactly how much longer she would be able to stand there and let Carina use her empathetic nature against her.
At her last comment, Sera simply sighed and said under her breath: "I know that, Carina, that was a little something called dry humor." Those words were the only clue she gave to anything she was thinking. Her tone was fairly even, but there were signs of sadness and frustration there.
She smoothed out her T-shirt a bit and pushed a few pieces of hair out of her face before she moved through the crowd to stand face to face with the one who obviously hated her already. Along with the rest of the world. Her steps were small and deliberate as she tried not to brush up against too many people, but she covered the distance fairly quickly. She stood nearly level with Carina and she slowly shook her head. She was in thought.
I just don't get it, she thought, ... The only way to loose so much of an emotional capacity is to allow it to happen. She let it happen. But why? Must there be hate if you're forced to live in darkness? That's impossible. I can't believe.... Why? These thoughts invaded her mind and refused to leave. She searched for a connection, for understanding, but she wasn't able to find it. She was stuck in her own head.
Sera decided to keep focus. Speak softly. Do not change your demeanor because of her. "I take multiple victims per night." she said even more quietly than before, "Only one has died at my hand, and the instance is deeply regretted." she looked to the ground, then back to her, "I just don't understand why you want so much to fight fire with fire. If your oppressors were watching you... right now- would you really want them to know that they'd gotten to you at such a level that you became a hateful killer with no hope or appreciation for life? I'm sure they would laugh, thinking that in some way they had achieved something they set out to do." her voice became slightly shaky, for she was not used to holding in her emotions, "Oh, you would definitely please them."
Her jaw ticked a bit. "What have you got to be angry about that so many others don't?!" Her voice was not angry, but searching. She let out the slightest laugh, a serene, innocent sound. "It makes no sense to turn to such things when nothing horrible is happening to you right now. If you learned anything, it should be that you can survive and overcome the odds. What's so terrible about that, Carina? Honestly." she sighed once more, "What's wrong with looking at the beautiful things about life instead of trying to ruin it?”
Nikolaos - April 11, 2008 01:41 AM (GMT)
"Well then, you might want to work on that. The humor wasn't very funny." she remarked, her voice catty and annoyed. She did not like the woman. What right did she have to come in here and tell her what to do? She wasn't an Amman. She wasn't an ancient. She wasn't her sire. She had no right to dictate or to judge.
"Sera.... you really didn't pay much attention did you? They weren't trying to make me into the bitch I am today. They were trying to kill me. They were trying to kill all of us. They weakened us day by day, I think they'd be pissed as hell if they could see me now- still alive- and all of them.... dead as far as I know. And I made sure I contributed to every death of theirs that I could."
Carina's eyes burned for a moment with hatred that she could never really suppress. She sighed and the heated wrath seemed to rush out of her like a deflated balloon, running away with the wind and carelessly tossing in the breeze- as if her eternal rage didn't matter- as if it was just a part of her. And that was right. her anger was just a part of her. She'd never be the happy child again. She was full of rage, a dark bottomless pit of festering frustration and vengeance. Yep. That was her- and that was her brother too. But Konrad would never admit it. Carina admitted it every day.
"You think everyone else that went through that hell isn't angry Sera? You're pathetic if you have no anger, no sense that what they did was wrong.... Anger is all you should know. Whatever...." she shook her head before flashing Sera a horrible grin. "Maybe you had more bread than I so your brain is more sympathetic to the officers that sent our kin to the sky."
"What's wrong? Beautiful things. Yes.... I see many beautiful things. A pulsing heart rate and a thumping cardiac muscle in my hand is definitely beautiful. Death is just as beautiful as life Sera. I think that after bunking with death in the barracks at Bergen-Belsen I have become quite good friends with her- and she certainly is model material."
Did that get under the compassionate vampires skin? Did that make her squirm? It should, Carina was trying very hard to disgust her. She was just so fun- trying to save her, but that still didn't make Carina like her any more. She just thought she was interesting.
"Still not saving my soul.... Wanna drink? I'll pay if you preach?" she offered, laughing under her breath as her sharp eyes met Sera's.
"What do you say?"
Seraphina - April 11, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
Sera didn't miss a beat in answering Carina in as honest a way as she could. "You're right- I am subconsciously very angry, and perhaps it might just benefit the world (in some cases) if I use that fowl feeling to decapitate those who irritate me." she said, indicating no one but Carina herself. Sera looked upon her with a slightly amused look at the hatred on Carina's face, though she could see a hint of interest in the other vampire's eyes as well. It was then she knew that she wasn't going to get to this one by being nice and trying to convince her of what was actually good. The only things she was accomplishing by going about it this way were a continued argument and the entertainment of this evil destroyer.
She smirked. Maybe she's right when she said whatever. Sera could go ahead and drop it, but this certainly was not over. She thought for a moment and then shook her head in disgust at the way Carina was trying and suceeding in getting to her. She cared, she wanted life to be good, and she didn't want to do those things that reminded her of what happened to her family- it was just the way she was. She felt anger and hatred, but she didn't understand them. She saw those things as irrational and she knew in some deep part of her mind that she was right.
She looked back with soft hazel eyes only to see those sharp icy blue ones again. There was something repulsive about her gaze that Sera just couldn't place. "You really are a bitch, do you know that?" she said evenly, "I'll talk until you shut me up, I'll sit here trying to get you to understand for as long as you'll let me, but I'm not preaching or trying to convince you any longer. It's obviously not helpful to go after hopeless causes." She narrowed her eyes a bit, "I'll pay for myself, thanks."
She made her way back to the bar and sat down again, raising an eyebrow at the bartender who was staring at her- or perhaps it was at Carina, if she was anywhere behind her. She waited a few moments until she was close to the other vampiress again before she crossed her legs casually. "Fine." she said, her accent more pronounced in irritation she still couldn't manage to hide, "Do me a favor. Think about this for a second- Your past was obviously gruesome. The present while you drain people of blood and kill needlessly: if you asked anyone with a conscience, they'd call that greusome." she stopped then leaned back a bit, "But we've both got some long futures to deal with- Do you really want it all to continue, or do you have something else in mind?"
Nikolaos - April 12, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
"That's Miss Bitch to you," Carina replied with a twisted grin, thoroughly enjoying the frustration she caused in the other. She just couldn't let this go could she? She couldn't just let Carina wallow in her sin? She had to fix it. Why? Why must she interfere?
Carina laughed softly, an unnerving darkness passing over her eyes for a moment.
"You really shouldn't make that comment. I'd hate to break your pretty little jaw...." Carina's voice almost soothed. She let out a joyful laugh before moving towards the bar with Sera.
"Alright. What do you drink anyways? Hard liquor or are you a beer-kinda-gal?"
Carina smirked as she seated herself on a bar stool, swerving to flash the bartender a quick smile, pressing green bills onto the table as she requested an Amaretto Sour.
The drink came rather quickly and she sipped it daintily, savoring the familiar taste, though a little put off. She seemed to be losing her taste for anything that wasn't blood. The sensation of copper in her mouth was just so- vitalizing. It was better than any alcohol. It had a better kick to it than anything. Pity they didn't serve blood here. But she knew for a fact they served it at the Sinister Puppet, a new favorite joint that she liked to frequent.
"Well, it's a good thing I don't live to please other people," she remarked with a grin. "I don't care if they think it's gruesome. Hm.... do I want it all to continue? Maybe not forever, but Hale and I have been having fun this past week and I don't really feel like giving up this rush just yet. Death is part of life Sera. Get over it. They gotta die from something- why not go out with a bang?"
Seraphina - April 12, 2008 03:49 PM (GMT)
She simply rolled her eyes at Carina's jaw-breaking threat. Sera was definitely weaker than most vampires, but she doubted Carina would want to hurt her enough to actually do that. Not that she cared what happened to herself in that sense- physical injuries were a lot easier for her to mend than emotional ones.
When asked about her drinking preferences, she shrugged. "Depends on the day." she said, and when Carina ordered she simply sat there- not quite feeling in the alcohol mood anymore. It was amazing what single conversations could do to her thought process and moods. Some might call that instability- she called it perception.
Hale. she thought. She remembered hearing that name from someone, but didn't know who it was or what he was like. the name didn't ring any bell of significance. She figured he must be one of the influences bringing this vampiress to her current state, but then she knew that he didn't much matter. She figured Carina took the influences of others that she wanted to influence her, but they only confirmed and heightened her own desires. If Carina would ever change, it would be because she wanted to. Sera just wanted to try her best to make that desire come out... even if it meant that she would only be laughed at by the girl.
"Go out with a bang, huh?" she said, "I can find many more fulfilling ways to die than being sucked dry at the neck or strangled to death by someone who looks harmless." she then thought about it. "Wait, what?" she gave Carina a strange, searching look. "You just started doing this a week ago? What the hell."
She stared at her for a time without a word. She'd acted like this had been her life since death, like she did it out of anger as soon as she was able. But was that wrong? Was it actually someone else that brought her to this? If that was the case, perhaps she couldn't categorize Carina a hopeless cause. She rested her arm on the bar. "What brought you to it?"
Nikolaos - April 18, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Carina nodded. "Same here.... it always depends on the night." She replied with a twist of her lips, the corners of her mouth turning upward with a catlike smile that was very, very amused.
The music of the band kicked up, the electric guitar dominating the sound waves. Carina couldn't help but smile. She had really taken to the rock scene- finding that intense and loud music could drown out almost everything- so close to making her deaf with the pounding heart like rhythms.
Carina arched an eyebrow at Seraphina. "Oh no- they go out with a bang- maybe breaking records with how fast I can get their heart rate going.... it is a bang- or rather- maybe it's an explosion!" Carina laughed and sipped her drink, crossing her legs and bouncing the top one to the music, her ankle flexing with a restrained power.
"I think you misunderstand me Carina. I've been killing since I died. It's only recently that I've been learning.... Yesterday, Hale taught me how to skin someone- very interesting lesson, don't cha think?" She prodded- just trying to push Seraphina as hard as she could. Maybe she could get her to puke.
"What brought me to it?" The German asked, calmly smiling- without any sort of stress in her eyes. She was complacent. She was fine with all her murders. She was just fine with all her sins.
"I'm an extremely pissed off person. I was bored. Hale found me- taught me a few tricks that my sire never did.... and now I think I can call him a trustworthy friend and ally." Carina's eyes glinted with something cold as she spoke, her smile so wickedly distorted in the shadows.
Seraphina - April 19, 2008 10:51 PM (GMT)
When the mention of skinning a person came up, Sera let her head drop to the bar like dead weight. She looked up at Carina from her awkward position with her hazel eyes looking both disturbed and somehow amused at Carina's attempts to kill her mind. "That is disgusting." she said. The bartender came back over and she waved him away. "Couldn't take it at this point." she explained, letting it be known that she was absolutely grossed out.
She was sure it wouldn't have been a problem, except she was a very imaginative person. When someone said something, she actually got a mental image going, almost like a movie playing out on a screen. It was how she got through any horror in her life- she immagined something peaceful, beautiful, and painless. It made her feel as though her imagined world was real when pain was consuming her. But it also had a downside... which was moments like right then, in the bar, with Carina coldly explaining her repulsive act. The images of someone's skin being pulled from the rest of the person actually did run through her mind. She wanted it out.
Distract... please distract. And Carina's words did. They brought her mind back to the conversation and almost got rid of the nausious feeling she was getting. Almost.
Her eyebrow raised again at the end. What the hell? "Friend and ally, huh?" she replied, "Sure, I suppose you might think so in that sick and twisted way of yours. But I can just see it now- he could get really pissed off at you someday, and then what? My bet is he'll take that little lesson he gave you and consider it for one of many methods of torture."
She shook her head once more. "You make about as much sense to me as american idol."
Nikolaos - April 20, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
"He can't" Carina shot with a glare. "He's a member of the same coven. We are forbidden to slay each other. Obviously you don't belong to a coven or you'd know that...." Carina rolled her eyes.
"So sad- all alone- without even a vampire family.... It must suck to still have no one after all these years-- at least I have my brother-"
She was very pleased with Sera's nauseous reaction to her comments. It was pleasing- very pleasing. She should hang out with this stupid little chickie more often. She was just barrels of fun!
"American Idol?" Carina asked, arching an eyebrow. "What's that?" She had never heard of it. Was it a person? Or what? A statue? Confusion did show on her face as she asked- obviously Carina was a very sheltered little vampire when she first came to Canada and had no idea what the girl was talking about. American Idol......?
Seraphina - April 20, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
"Wrong you are, Carina." she said with a smirk "I happen to belong to a coven. You didn't mention that this friend of yours belonged to the same one you did, nor did you mention your own involvement. I blame a lack of information." She crossed her arms over her chest defiantly at Carina's attempt to make it seem like she didn't know anything about the whole vampire world. Sure, she hadn't been in this city or Canada her entire immortal life, but she was not ignorant.
She had no reason for explaining that. Honestly, she didn't know why she didn't just shrug and let Carina think she could cut another cord- it did, after all, seem to make the woman try just a little less to bother Sera every time she knew she had achieved her goal. Then again, she didn't know how long that would keep up. Perhaps it really didn't matter.
"I do have to admit you're lucky to have a sibling live." she let her eyes drift back down to the surface of the bar, "I'd kill to have my brothers and sister back. Oh, but she survived the camp. The little died of old age two years ago." She looked sad for a moment, but forced herself to get rid of the feeling. Carina's expression helped that quite a bit.
Sera couldn't help but laugh at the confused look she was getting as a result of her US pop culture reference. "Do you not keep contact with anyone outside of Canada or watch television?" she sighed as her laughter died down, "It's the dumbest program known to man. A singing competition. The only good thing is the mean British judge." she shook her head in disappointment, "Leave it to the American's to come up with that bullshit, then keep it going and going. If it was a living being, even I would skin it."
She bit her lip, "Not that such things matter to you, since activities fit for hell's torture seem to be your only form of entertainment."
Nikolaos - April 20, 2008 09:14 PM (GMT)
Carina shrugged, not really feeling any sort of sting from Seraphina's comeback. "Lack of information... Sure- let's say that," she agreed, nodding her head once.
Carina kept her face impassive as Sera mentioned her siblings were gone. No affection here. No empathy here. No compassion here. Carina was empty, void of any emotion that implied care or friendship. There were no such things in her soul any longer.
"No, I can't say I watch much television." Carina arched an eyebrow at the girl's rather absurd description of the program and was a little concerned for her sanity as she even uttered the word skin.
"You must truly hate that- show." Carina tried, not really sure what to say. It wasn't an insult so she couldn't say anything snippy- and It wasn’t a compliment or question so sarcasm was out of the realm of possibility. So she just said words- pointless words that didn't matter at all.
"Not that such things matter to you, since activities fit for hell's torture seem to be your only form of entertainment."
"Eh, I plead the fifth, but I must say I do have more entertainment than simply hellish tortures. When I'm in a good mood.... I really am a nice gal- Too bad I think that's every ten years or more when I wake up with a good attitude."
Seraphina - April 20, 2008 09:33 PM (GMT)
The apathy showed by this vampire did not surprise her in the least, and so she wasn't bothered by it and didn't bother calling her out. Honestly, the day she saw this one care about the feelings of anyone else would be the day the earth might spontaneously implode on itself.
She could tell Carina thought her ramblings meant nothing as well. And she honestly didn't blame her for that one. Sera's ramblings usually didn't. She just liked to talk, even if it was awkward small talk. She didn't care to whom she talked, either, or what mattered to that person and what didn't. People usually just told her to shut up when she started carrying on about nothing. And she never noticed when what she said was awkward. She knew no embarassment- it was a completely alien concept.
Her mind went back to what Carina said instead of what she showed on her face. "Every ten years, huh?" she said with a quiet unattractive snort as her eyes narrowed a bit in a sarcastic fashion, "Poor thing, that brother of yours. A sister with constant vampy PMS. If he's not just like you, it's a wonder he hasn't run out into the open daylight."
Nikolaos - April 20, 2008 11:56 PM (GMT)
Blah. Blah. Blah.
Carina didn't really register all that much what Seraphina was rambling on about. It was just- constant talking. It was like--- like her tongue had an excessive wiggle that Sera couldn’t control. Fascinating....
She should be put in an institution for study. But maybe that already happened. Maybe the Nazi's studied this amazing phenomenon of speech. It truly was amazing. She didn't even have to take a breath to force air through her larynx. Simply perplexing.... definitely worthy of scientific attention.
"Lucky for my brother I moved out three months ago. I barely see him- but PMS comes with being a female vampire. Unfortunately, it is eternal, but I don't really care. There's not much point in killing if you're not pissed. Happy people just don't murder. God, I'd hate to be happy and give up all the fun...." she pushed, smiling at Sera.
Seraphina - April 21, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
She tilted her head to the side and her mouth went into a frown as though she was trying to remember something. "I believe I've already told you that you're totally disturbed, right?" she looked to the side overdramatically, "I think that's true enough to be repeated- 'Carina, you are seriously disturbed.' I'd hate to compliment you, evil incarnate, but I think Beelzebub himself may have posessed you at some point and then decided to make a seasonal home."
That thought was crazy, but almost plausible. Carina really did remind her of what the devil would be like- except he was in the form of a female with fangs and not completely invincible to anything but God. Perhaps it was nice to think of something so unholy as destructible. And what is leading this thought process on? she asked herself. The answer was honestly- Nothing. But, at least she wasn't saying anything out loud this time. She might be admitted or something... not that those human recource workers could catch or subdue her, but it was still not a situation she wanted to run into again.
She shook her head dispairingly, but not in a preaching way. Her method had turned to total sarcasm. "And to think we could have had another genuinely good-hearted vamp, if fate hadn't brought down the blows it did and your damned personality type."
Nikolaos - April 23, 2008 12:30 AM (GMT)
Carina shrugged of Sera's words and gave her the 'God-you're-crazy' look. She was ranting like a madwoman. Beelzebub? Honestly.... This woman was barking mad- and she had the nerve to call Carina disturbed!
"If it makes you feel any better- I think you're quite disturbed as well," Carina replied cheekily.
She sipped her drink again before downing it.
"God, I'm bored.... you dance or anything fun Sera? Because right now you're company is less fun than a pet rock."
Carina sighed. Yes, this was getting boring. And Carina- didn't like to be bored. maybe if Sera didn't want her to go out and kill again- she should entertain her. Like--- juggle on one foot or something? Juggle while drunk? Yeah, that'd be funnier. But Carina was sure Miss Goody-Goody-Sera would never get herself drunk and stupid.
Seraphina - April 27, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
Sera narrowed he eyes at the pet rock comment. She was not boring, but she certainly couldn't find any way to amust Carina... or at least she couldn't find a way to amuse her without making herself look horrible or stupid. Carina seemed to feed off bad energy. And Sera always saw herself as more of a calm, zen-ish type of girl. She couldn't remember a time in her life when she'd actually been bored since she usually just went with whatever and always had something on her mind.
She sighed, "For one, anyone who thinks a rock is a pet must be on some sort of hallucinagen." she came back from her leaning position and sat herself up straight, "Yes, I dance." she shook her head, "But if you're so bored, why don't you just up and leave? It's not like I can hold you against your will and force you to actually listen."
She looked off to the side, "Then again, I can't promise not to follow either."
(OOC: Sorry it took so long. It's been storming like hell here and the internet's been going out. Stupid satellite.)
Nikolaos - April 27, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
((that be okay XD))
Carina's laugher sprinkled over the air like broken glass as she smiled, her eyes sparkling with the same sharpness that bled through her voice.
"That- is- funny," she remarked, quite tickled by the joke. Hallucinogen. It was funny! Her smile twisted into something dangerous as Sera spoke again.
"No, you can't hold me against me will," she paused and arched an eyebrow. 'I'm sure you'd follow- you're so damn bent on saving a nonexistent soul." She smirked and finished her drink, downing the remaining yellow-red liquid in a gulp. A satisfied grin that seemed to be a little more social towards Sera graced her small mouth. The grin flashed a hint of fang. The alcohol had certainly made Carina feel a little better- maybe a little less spiteful. On the bitch scale.... she had gone from a ten to maybe an eight.
"Want to dance with me Sera? Or are you too much of a saint?"
The music pumped through the air, speeding the rhythmic counting of the heart beats, the systemic and ventricular valves closing with precision and grace.
Seraphina - April 28, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
"Want to dance with me Sera? Or are you too much of a saint?"
Sera gave her a look- a strange one. One that pretty much said what she was thinking. 'Don't push it on the saint thing, girl.' Her eyes spoke the words for her, but the look was gone as soon as it had come. She threw her head back and jumped down from the barstool, landing softly enough on her short legs. Despite looking so clumsy it was painful, she was actually quite graceful. She was used to ballet and tap, but watching the crowd she could tell this would do.
She pushed the curls that had fallen out of her messy up-do out of her face and arched a brow. Her lack of makeup must have shown, for one posh-looking woman looked at her as though there might be something wrong but she couldn't quite place it. She sighed at that, but looked straight at Carina. "If it'll keep you from a boredom rampage, I'll dance." she said with a smirk and a quick wink.
She took a large step into the crowd and then spun around in one fluid motion. Closing her eyes for a moment, she memorized the number count of the music playing and she began to move to it with energy she didn't expect to have at that time.
Nikolaos - April 28, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
She laughed, her eyes sparkling with amusement. Why shouldn't Sera wish to be called a saint? She sure as hell was converting Carina like one. Saint Seraphina.... it did have a lovely ring to it. Carina's harsh teasing eyes only smirked with mockery as she jumped off the stool, her squat legs looking quite awkward in teh motion. But awkward was the last thing a vampire ever was.
"If it'll keep you from a boredom rampage, I'll dance."
"Or join in the boredom rampage-" Carina suggested. "Either way I'll be able to laugh at someone-" she grinned, her eyes arrogant and sharp, pointed actually- reflective blades of sight that somehow only saw what they wanted to see.
She was not open minded. Once she had been, but there had come a time when everything was taken- her soul stripped from her body. And now? Now she couldn't even mourn the death of her mother- her father- her soul and her brother's soul.... They were dead- without any sort of feeling left in them except those feelings that were purely human, their orgins wickedly rooted in mankind.
Sera spun, a little ballerina.... Cute. It was disgusting- kinda made Carina want to barf. Twirls? Honestly, where was the fun in that? Dancing with temptation, the beating hearts and pulsing arteries, was so much more thrilling. She took two steps forward, jumping off her own bar stool with a sassy smile.
