Title: Life Changes of an Etruscan Outcast
Description: Rome 750 BC--Chyou Feng Min

Again, like every evening, the streets were crowded with people pushing through one another to get to wherever they were going. The air was thick and pungent and dirt filled the immediate area wherever he looked.
‘Ah Rome, I love it,” Thefarie thought to himself and he made his way from the flat he rented behind the butcher’s shop on his way to pay homage to Jupiter. He planned on getting back soon though, as tonight he was investigating the new tombs recently interned by some of Rome’s wealthier citizens who recently died.
Passing by a cart that lined the street he noticed an older man selling a root of some kind closing down for the night. He was hungry and did not feel like buying the root, so he pushed into a man passing from the other direction causing them both to bump into the cart. With that brief impact into the man and cart he slid one of the roots out and continued to walk. Such impacts on the street were common place and he made his way along with very little apology.
The root was fresh, that was a blessing, and tasted sweet in his mouth. It had been a while since he had eaten anything. Nearing the makeshift temple, that was serving as a place of worship, he paused to wash up and drink from the nearby well.
Pandora Lorrain - December 12, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
Chi was walking down the street, the sight of her unusual. She was an Asian and she was walking among many white faces. She did get looks and glares. Her hair had been done in a single plait down her back and it was the silver in color she had been born with. She was wearing a greek style toga that emphasized her slim form. Men also glanced her way but she ignored them.
She was a vampire and she had no interest in mortals, except for the one that stole that root. Her eyes flashed in his direction and she followed him into the temple district. She was bound to get attention, she was now used to it. She was almost 4000 and as much as the thought frightened her, she stayed strong. She pretended to look at the temple of Artemis though her attention was on the man.
She hated people who stole, when she was on work duty she dressed as a boy, but the night before she had given her resignation, saying that she had to move on. Now she was strolling the town, simply taking in the sights.
Neutral_George - December 12, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
A strange foreign woman was drawing attention nearby. He tilted his head to look at her finding it interesting that she would be unescorted in any fashion. She was at risk of being taken by someone.
‘Oh well,’ he thought, ‘it would serve her right being so reckless.’
Thefarie finished his drink and entered into the temple of the God of the Sky and paid homage as he did daily to Lord Jupiter.
After about a half an hour he rose up and left the temple for the walk back to the flat. It was time to change and go investigate what the dead may have for him tonight.
The crowd’s were dying down as everyone was making there way home or to a city center to participate in one of the small festivals that were usually going on.
He looked for the strange woman on his way out, but did not see her.
Soon he was home and put on his armor and grabbing his spear made his way towards the burial grounds. Tonight he was going to play the role of a hired guard in order to get close to the target.
Pandora Lorrain - December 12, 2006 04:01 AM (GMT)
Chi saw him enter the God of Sky and she left. She didn't need an escort she was fine the way she was. No one was going to hurt her, unless they wanted to be dead, very dead. Once he was out of sight, she hid in the shadows which was remarkable for someone like her. Her silver hair should have stood out, but she literally melted into the shadows and seemed to wink out of existence. Her next step would be to follow him.
As he stepped out of the temple, she followed him home. Amusement played across her face, he lived close to her. She would have time to change and turn into the goddess of vengeance. She changed rapidly, wearing a black coloured toga and a red sash. Her hair she let loose down her back. She left her house and saw him leave as well. She followed him from a distance and excitement filled her. Maybe she would turn this one.
She hid in the shadows and followed him from the rooftops and wondered what he was up to, late at night.
Neutral_George - December 12, 2006 04:13 AM (GMT)
He found his way to an internment site; well it was more like several open graves with a few family tombs in the back.
Working his way through the open graves he found himself in front of one of these family sites with a guard that was resting against the opening. He looked up at Thefarie who waved slightly with his right hand as he held the spear that rested on his shoulder with the left.
He pulled out a couple coins and tossed them to the guard. “I’m your relief; enjoy the rest of your night.”
The man looked at the coins in his hands and said, “It has been quiet so far, no thieves have tried at the old couple yet.”
Thefarie smiled, “I don’t think they will. This family can afford to hire guys like us to guard the entrance so it will be a while until someone tries. Take care of yourself my friend.”
He had been seen here guarding before so the guard didn’t think much of being relieved by him. The old guard stood up and Thefarie sat down on the step where he was and got comfortable.
After about an hour he stood up and walked inside the tomb to see what he could find.
Pandora Lorrain - December 12, 2006 04:31 AM (GMT)
Chi had followed him and had hid as the other guard left. She knew exactly what he was going to do, rob the dead. The man was an idiot and Chi would show him what a goddess would do when she was pissed.
Power gathered around her, making her eyes flash with anger and with clear annoyance. In her goddess mode she could be a bitch, plain and simple. She used her shadow walk and vanished from her site to grow out of the shadow blocking his was. "Where are you going?" She spoke Latin flawlessly, a bit of an accent to it, but she looked like the goddess she had been turned to be.
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
The goddess, that appeared, spoke Latin flawlessly, but Thefarie was a native born Etruscan that lived under Greek influence and knew enough Latin to get by when interacting with the higher classes. He was able to understand Chi’s question as she appeared out of the shadow.
Chi’s ruse worked as intended. His upbringing taught him to believe the gods walked the earth with mortal men. He fell to a single knee in subjugation to this unknown goddess.
In rough Latin, “Goddess I guard this burial until the family is ready to send the remains unto you in Olympus,” knowing this is where the new gods of Rome live.
“Why are you angry Goddess?”
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
Chi could hear him speak and wondered what he was up to. Her eyes lit up with delight as he fell to one knee. Respect was something that he knew to give. She had been raised to be a goddess and thought that she deserved it.
Her eyes rove over him cooly, she wanted to bait him, to make him stay on the floor for a while, make him suffer. Though a gentler part of her told her to stop this masquerade. Masquerade? What masquerade? Her eyes glanced to him. "I know you steal and I know that you aren't really a guard. You cannot lie to a goddess. Did you truly think that you would get away with it?"
Again her eyes watched him with cool interest. "I know that you are here to steal, unless you wish to lie to me?" Her voice held a sense of foreboding. "People who lie to me, make me very unhappy." Her eyes narrowed momentarily. "Very unhappy."
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
The Etruscan warrior looked up to the face of the goddess before him and with no expression in his face spoke in a quiet and even tone.
“Goddess I am here to steal from the dead. They have no use of the objects they possess and it is foolish to leave possessions under the watchful eye of a corpse. I do not understand the issue you take with my livelihood as we are a city of thieves, brigands and slaves.”
Again with deference to her power he again bowed his head and waited for her reply.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
Chi's eyes narrowed as he dared to look at her face. A soft snarl escaped her lips. "Leave the dead their possessions, they need it a lot more than you think." She laughed, her voice cold, enough to send any human listening to have shivers go up and down their spines. "I've taken an interest in you, my dear. I do not like your livelyhood. Stealing from honest merchants? You could become a merchant and stop this madness."
Her face was expressionless. "If you don't change, I'll have to do something about it and trust me you don't want me to do something about it. I'll be watching you Thefarie. You cannot escape the eyes of the watchful one, the one who hunts." She started to vanish, her eyes the only thing left as she finished her statement before they winked out. She was still in the shadows watching him, seeing what his decision would be. She'd probably turn him, simply for the hell of it and turn him into her pet for a bit until she could release him from her hold. She wouldn't need him for ever...
(OOC: I sense a turning coming soon...)
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
The goddess had vanished into the shadow from whence she came.
Thefarie turned on his knee and sat back down onto the steps and sat there thinking for another two hours about what he had just experienced.
He reflected on the family that he came from, the family that cast him out, and the life he led then. As he churned these events in his mind it began to dawn on him that this goddess was the out of place woman outside of the temples this evening.
She had taken an interest in him, but why. “Jupiter save me,” he whispered to the large star in the sky.
Thefarie stood up from his spot and began to walk back to his rented flat. Tonight he would not incur the wrath of a goddess over a dead man’s belongings.
Besides there is always tomorrow, he thought.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
Chi watched him leave. Smart man, she thought amused. Why be at the temple? She didn't even have a temple dedicated to her. Others knew her because she appeared to them. She doubted that the Roman Gods even existed. If they did, why didn't they stop this anarchy, that had settled itself on this city. She gave an annoyed sigh, though it was quiet.
It had taken him some time to make a decision, but so far he had made the right one. Jupiter wouldn't save him, he could only save himself. It would seem that Pluto would lose one soul very soon. She followed him home and settled in her room, her mind somewhat attached to him. She would sense what he did, though she would get some rest. She didn't need it, but she thought that for the next few days she would probably need it more than ever. Life was interesting once again.
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
Thefarie helped the butcher slaughter today, it was an effective way to pay the rent without actually paying rent though it was quite messy and he usually ended up covered in blood by days end.
The sun hit mid-day and the work he finished the last of the work the butcher had for him. Walking out back he drew water from the barrel and washed himself off and then walked back inside and changed into his usual outfit and began soaking his bloodied garment in cold water.
As he waited for the water to have an effect he picked up a root and some fruit and began to eat. He mused over the root and his encounter last night. He knew that it was real and that a goddess of an unknown pantheon had chosen to appear to him. She must have been a goddess that watched over the dead and their safe travel to the next life, a lesser god to Pluto or perhaps Hades.
After finishing his food he began to wash out the blood from the garment and hung it to dry once it was clean as he could make it.
Looking out the window he realized that he must have day dreamed longer than he thought as the night would soon be upon him as the day was ending. He rose from his seat and began to make his way to pay homage to Jupiter, as he usually did this time of day.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
Chi stretched and shook herself out as she got up and out of her bed. The sun was already half-set over the horizon. She got up and making sure to say out of the alst rays of the sun, grabbed a bottle of blood and dwelled on the fact that it was her last one. She would have to find more soon.
She let her mind wander as she drank and her connection with Thefarie strengthened. She could see his day and smiled at him being blood covered. Working for the butcher and she almost laughed at the mention of her being a lesser goddess for Pluto. She served no one, but the mother Earth all these other gods were charlatans to the real Goddess.
She got rid of the now empty bottle and left her room. She knew that at this time of day, he would return to the temple of Jupiter. She would see where his day would go from there. She hoped that he would steal, that would make her night so complete...
(OOC: By the way Pluto and HAdes or the same god, simply in different mythology, one is Greek the other is Roman. You want to go with Pluto here....)
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 03:09 AM (GMT)
He offered up his prayers to Jupiter and consulted with the holy men in regarding this goddess that had chosen to appear to him last night. They did not know what goddess that this may have been but advised him that it is a good omen when an immortal takes interest in a mortal for whatever reason.
Thefarie left the temple smiling and shaking his head at the foolishness of these men and wondered how the god of the sky let such idiot manage his place of worship.
As he walked towards the part of town he knew a festival to the moon was happening that night an old comrade from Remus’s army approached him. They greeted joyfully to see that the other was still alive and his friend joined him on the path to the festival.
The conversation soon turned to an opportunity to sell his sword, which appealed to him greatly. It had been to long since he had made any serious money. All they had to do was kill a man later tonight on behalf of a wealthy rival. With a smile he accepted the offer and said he would be at the appointed place as directed.
They parted ways and Thefarie grabbed a mask and joined in the dance with a maiden that was participating in the festivities already.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 03:16 AM (GMT)
Chi shook her head. The men at the temple knew nothing. She had overheard the conversation and couldn't help but grin. She was not a good omen. The goddess of vengeance and death. She wasn't even close to being a good omen.
She followed him, in the shadows and lifted an eyebrow at the conversation he had with another man, a friend of his, perhaps a comerade in arms. When the conversation turned to killing, Chi made a face. What was wrong with this city? Everyone was turning behind everyone's back. It was worse then the time she had been born in.
One thing did distract Chi though. The festivities up ahead caught her interest. Festival of the moon? They had done rituals to the moon a long time ago. This was interesting. She smiled and appeared in a pale white toga that shone. She smiled and took a mask. A little fun wouldn't harm anyone, besides perhaps she could catch Thefarie's eye. He would know who she was.
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Thefarie danced, ate heartily and drank sparingly as he had work to do later that night.
Throughout the crowd he noted a woman in a mask that stood out in an almost unnatural way. He clothing seem to shine beyond the rest of the crowds. Then it hit him, this was the goddess keeping tabs on him, her hair the dead give away.
He made his way through the crowd until he was of center of her left shoulder blade. “My mistress shines beyond the radiance of goddess moon who we celebrate tonight. May a humble worshiper beg a dance?”
And with those words he walked in front of her.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
The minute Thefarie noticed her, Chi knew it. That was the only drawback to having so much power, you knew everything before it happened. She watched him dance around and eat and drink. She even participated in the drinking. Being a vampire there were some restrictions, though she participated in the drinking.
She knew the moment he approached her. The heat of his body was a dead give away to that, though she looked him over. "I suppose I could give you one dance." She then let a small smile grace her face, the white teeth flashing.
She offered him a hand to take a hold of. "Now about you killing someone. I don't really like that idea. You are giving Pluto another soul. Don't like that idea at all." She didn't want souls go to waste and giving them to a God that she knew didn't exist, well he had to believe it. That was all that mattered.
Neutral_George - December 13, 2006 04:36 AM (GMT)
He took her hand and entered into the dance continuing the conversation.
“Well is there anything the goddess does approve of?” The tone was not rude or sarcastic in its nature, but it was not veiled that this man was not sure of what her issue was with his livelihood.
“The gentleman will die whether I participate or not. In fact if I fail to show then I place my very life in peril as I have broken my word to a comrade and friend.” He did not question that she knew what he was doing tonight. It had been made clear that she was keeping tabs on him and after all she was a goddess, as the unearthly coolness of her skin reinforced.
“Perhaps the goddess has better, more wholesome things in mind for this unworthy mortal and perhaps will provide him with her divine protection for choosing to follow her way.” A smile appears on his lips as the song comes to an end.
Pandora Lorrain - December 13, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
Chi tilted her head to one side. He did have a point, perhaps she would have to intervene herself. "Then perhaps I will have to intervene. I hate loosing a wager with the god of the underworld. Things were going to well." No wager was in place but gods to most mortals were odd. Besides she could say whatever she wanted. "I suppose that I'll have to save the man, he isn't meant to die yet."
Chi was planning to keep tabs not only on this man, but on everyone that surrounded him as well. Perhaps something would come up. She tapped him lightly on the shoulder. "You will go to meet up with your friend. I will save the man you are supposed to kill." The statement left no question that she would do it. She was quite powerful, everything she did, had a purpose, now all she had to do was figure out why this man was so important to her.
As the song ended she turned away from him only to turn her head to him. "My divine protection? You already have it, mortal." She turned and seemed to vanish in the crowd while she spoke in his head. I'll be watching you, Thefarie.
Neutral_George - December 15, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
She disappeared into the crowd, no the shadow was more appropriate.
He noted the time and made his way from the party leaving the mask in place and making his way to the rendezvous point provided by his friend.
The moon hung high in the sky as Thefarie waited for the man he was suppose to kill. “Shouldn’t be that hard,” he whispered to himself as he saw a man, followed by his friend, making his way down the narrow street of the city.
His part was simple to accomplish. He was to step out and stop the man as his friend came up with the knotted robe to strangle him.
Ten feet….three….two….one. Now.
Pandora Lorrain - December 15, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
Chi had followed Thefarie, clearly amused and really enjoying herself. Nothing this exciting had happened in a long time. She was simply glad to be able to do something. Thefarie was definitely worth her time, definitely. She saw him step into a shadow and frowned. Then she saw his friend and the other man. She nodded, that was him for sure.
Her eyes were alert, they were the eyes of a predator, watchful even when they didn't seem to be. When the cord came down, she used her telekinesis to whip it out of Thefarie's friend's hand. "No this won't do. Not on the night of my celebration." She shook her head, silver hair spilling over her shoulders. "I hate it when mortals do this."
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 12:03 AM (GMT)
Chi stepped out and though Thefarie was not surprised by this he acted surprised. He figured that a goddess would be able to control things with her mind.
Both the victim and would be assassin stood there stunned for a brief second. The victim a man named Clavidian fell to his knees thanking the goddess reverently as he realized that he had just been saved from the gates of the afterlife.
Thefarie’s friend was just the opposite, due to his belief the gods killed his family out of whim, and enraged he drew his sword and attacked. Thefarie shocked by this, attempted to subdue his fried but was not able to act in time.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
Chi looked at the man that was on his knees. "I didn't do it for you." She then felt more than saw Thefarie's friend come for her. She gave an annoyed sigh and turned her plain eyes to him, her eyes cold. The next thing that happened was that Thefarie's friend was pinned against a wall and his sword was in her hand.
She looked at the sword in her hand, did a few thrusts and tested it with her hand to see the how good the blade was. "Nice blade." She turned her eyes to the now pinned man. "Now why did you attack me? That wasn't a very nice thing to do."
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
Now this event unnerved the victim that was thanking Chi to the point that he ran off from the direction that he came from.
Thefarie stood there watching as this goddess of unknown origin held his friend in the air against a wall with an unseen force and on top of it summoned his sword to her hand with but mere thought. The pinned man looked at this goddess with venom in his eyes and spat at her. “Let me down goddess whore and I will show you how nice that blade really is.” Rage and fury raced in his mind as he was reliving the murder of his family by the gods. Chi would recognize the carnage as the work of two rogue vampires.
“Please let him go,” Thefarie asked humbly. “He is a good man.”
His mind played a scene of a campaign they served on where his friend saved him from certain death during combat. Thefarie’s face showed concern as this goddess who was previously somewhat serious in nature had started to turn towards treating the life and ego of a mortal with such disregard. She was not part of this world and did not understand men like them that did what it took to survive in this new world.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
Chi narrowed her eyes at what she saw in his mind. "Damn, idiotic children." She muttered to herself. "I had nothing to do with the death of your entire family. I know who killed them, yet they are out of my reach." She paused thinking it over. Well they believed in Gods, let the Gods hear her. "If you want, I'll appeal to Jupiter and his sister/wife." She shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know if they will listen, I'm not a major Goddess, but I'll see what I can do." She released her hold on him and he slithered to the floor.
Her eyes narrowed at Thefarie. "I know a lot more than you think, Thefarie. Don't assume things that you do not understand." She still held the blade in her hand and she tossed it to the floor. "You know nothing of me, nothing at all. Remember that."
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
Thefarie was beginning to tire of this silver haired intruder in his life.
He had little time to experience this emotion before his friend launched at Chi with full intent of harming her. There was little more to be done by remaining, his friend had made his own decision to his fate despite the mercy this goddess had shown by releasing him.
As he walked away to return to his flat for the remainder of the evening he wondered what he truly did to deserve this in his life. He was very aware that he was showing disrespect by leaving her presence before she dismissed him or departed himself, but his nature was starting to remind him of who he was and that being subordinate, without pay, was not something he did anymore—regardless of who it is.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)
Chi looked at Thefarie's friend and lifted an eyebrow, he simply didn't get it, did he. She'd nice and she offered bringing his appeal to the God's and then shows him mercy, yet he still attacks her. That was it. She had had enough of him, besides Thefarie was leaving and he wasn't going anywhere not tonight. She turned to the man, her eyes murderous. She simply looked at him and he crumpled to the ground unconcious. She looked at him, blinking once.
She turned to the direction Thefarie left and vanished to cut him off. "I'm not done with you. You can't simply walk off. I have plans for you, whether you like them or not, I will follow through on my side. I'd rather have you cooperative then any other way, but if you want to be uncooperative, I can work with that." She paused, she wasn't in the best of moods. "So what will it be Thefarie, cooperation or not?"
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
Thefarie’s brow furled. What plans could she possibly have for him? Everything he was, she opposed.
It was a bit disturbing that this being had plans for him whether he cooperated or not. Did it really matter if he did cooperate? What were these plans? Why was she so adamant in pursuing him?
He looked down at the dark earth beneath his feet and shook his head a bit as he worked through the answer to her question and the options he may have that he did not immediately see. The answer was simple when he thought about the situation. Make the choice that left him the greater potential for options later.
Lifting his head he smiled at the silver haired goddess. With a bow of his head he said in a most reverent tone, “You have but to ask mistress.”
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Chi could see him process the information. She was quite adamant and would definitely prefered if he cooperated, it would make her life easier. She waited and as he made his decision, she knew of it long before he said it. Once it was out of his mouth she paused and looked him over.
"Well first thing you have to do is clean up your act. No stealing, no killing, nothing that would be theoretically against the law. I want you to stop all that or I will have to be..." She paused and thought. "harsh." Plain and simple that was how she was. She was also forward, she said what she thought.
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Thefarie thought about what she said and realized that there were ways to comply. How he would eat or find a place to live left him challenged without a dependable income source. He sure was not going back into farming.
“I hear and understand these terms and swear an oath to uphold them. May I now be released to return home and ponder this new life that I have chosen to undertake?”
He awaited the answer.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
Chi shrugged. Yes she supposed he could go. The night was pretty much over and she did need to sleep and hide from the rays of the sun. She sighed, the night life was getting annoying though playing the goddess was fun. she knew that she wasn't a goddess, but she loved playing it.
She looked up at him. "Go, but I will check on you tomorrow night. You better have made some change." She didn't add her threat, she suspected that he had heard it often enough... She vanished into the shadow and returned to her appartement to sleep.
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 02:25 AM (GMT)
On the way home he pondered what he must do in order to be able to comply.
As the sun rose it occurred to him that he could not stay in Rome, though he had come to love this filthy town of criminals. He would head north across the Tiber to visit his family and see if he could reconcile any semblance of a relationship with his father and brothers that he had left behind on the farm.
He packed his few belongings and some provisions and said his farewells to the butcher he rented from.
It took less than an hour to be outside of the seven hills. He had forgotten how beautiful the countryside could be as he had not left the city in three years.
By noon he reached the bridge that crossed the Tiber by way of the island that sat in the middle parallel to the northwestern most hill of the city. As he crossed the bridge he passed by an old woman who eyed him. He assumed she was a witch or seer of some form and recognized his curse.
The day went uneventful and as the sun began to set he made camp off of the traveled road in a protected alcove that could conceal his small fire and provide some defense against brigands and thieves such as himself.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
When Chi woke up, she could feel that Thefarie was far. Leaving Rome was definitely a way to clean up. She got up, gathered her belongings, not that there were many, but she'd have to carry them with her. The sword she tied to her hip and wrapped a cloak around her. She left a message on the door for her landlord and was out of the door and into the city. Soon she could see his fire up ahead.
It was a relief that she didn't have to drink all that much blood, lately she had fed only when necessary. "Going to your father's Thefarie?" She was supposed to know everything and that included where he was going.
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
The fact that Chi showed up at his camp site was not a surprise. The fact that she knew he was heading to the family farm was not a surprise. He expected these things and he did not question the fact that she was a goddess. But something caught his attention almost immediately and it was clear in his mind that he for the first time doubted she may be one of the gods.
This goddess was traveling with cloak and pack. Why did a goddess need to carry belongings?
He realized she probably knew when he did of his doubt, but nevertheless he held his tongue and asked if she would like to join him at the fire, all the time keeping a critical eye on her mannerisms and behavior from this point forward.
Pandora Lorrain - December 16, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
Chi knew that he now questionned who she was, he wasn't going to ask and she wasn't about to tell him that she wasn't a goddess, by all appearances she was a goddess, a night one, she could be hurt by the sun. Being a vampire was such a drag.
She joined him and put her pack aside and shed her cloak. She wore a black toga with a red sash. She was truly a goddess of the night, one that fed on blood. "It just crossed my mind that you have no idea who I even am. No idea what represent or what I do. Aren't you atall curious." She had been venerated as a goddess before so that wasn't too hard, but it was the no questions that she got, that got to her.
Neutral_George - December 16, 2006 06:16 PM (GMT)
Of course Thefarie was curious about this goddess. It just was not something that he had allowed himself to do until now, and that was to question this higher being.
He sat looking at the fire as he pondered his words. Why would a goddess care if she had bothered to tell this mortal about herself and what she had domain over? It really did not matter to wonder as everyone knew that to question a god was to risk death, but now this door was open. Why?
The most obvious curiosity was the fact that this being did not share a resemblance to any person within many leagues of Rome. Her eyes, skin hair, body shape, accent and behavior had no common traits with the Latins, Greeks, Etruscans or other races that had come to live on this land. Was she a goddess from yet another pantheon come to compete for the souls and loyalty of the mortals of this realm. It was tense enough with the Gods of Zeus and Jupiter at odds within the populace. He decided that it was best not to question her, despite the many questions that ran through his mind.
Where did she come from? Who was she? What did she rule over? Why did she only come to him at night? What is it about him that makes her so keen to spend so much time with him and not other mortals? Why did she look like she did? Is her duplicity a test for him or a trick? These and many other more daring questions began to formulate. Questions like whether she would lay down with him like the stories of other goddesses and gods of such beauty who took mortal lovers? Is she looking for a champion or priest? And most daring of all, would she at the end of all of this bless him with great powers or gifts, as some mortals had been in return for actions or loyalty?
He looked up into her eyes, daring to look for these answers in silence.

Chi giggled a smile lighting her face. "Curious, curious, but all mortals are the same I suppose. I guess I might as well answer them, though a few are very curious in form. Are you sure that you want me to answer them all?" She frankly didn't care, she was at ease with her sexuality, yet sleeping with him wasn't in her plans, but perhaps she would in the end.
"Now with which question shall I start with?" She tapped a delicate finger on her chin, thinking. "You are right I am not from the area, I am from the East, far to the East. Over there I was the moon goddess, second only to the mother Earth Goddess." It was true to an extent, she had been second to the original goddess on Earth. So she was second and looked like the moon, and back home the Earth had been reverated as the first goddess, the moon after her. It seemed fitting.
"My name is Chandra, though it means nothing to me and it isn't important. I think the question of the night is quite obvious. I am the moons goddess does the moon come out during the day, do you see her? Nope, so you won't see me." She paused, thinking. Why him and no other? Something about him had caught her interest. "You interest me, it's that easy."
She giggled the next question amusing her. "As for taking a mortal lover? Are you good, or do I have to find out?" She got closer to him, her body pressing against his arm and she wanted to know if he was good. The others questions were not important. Not anymore...

It was clear that Chandra, as she called herself, was reading his mind. It was the only explanation for her response to his silence, because he did not actually voice those questions. He would have to be more careful in the future.
Thefarie found it interesting that out of all the things that crossed his mind that she chose to focus on a question of sexuality. But he would begin with other replies.
“But I have seen the moon in the day, goddess of the moon; I have even seen it come out to cover the sun. So from that I would know that you too could walk the daylight should you choose.”
Quickly moving from that to the next response, leaving little time for verbal reply but a chance to observe the non-verbal response, he continued. “I am flattered that I have caught your interest. Perhaps it will be for the best.”
And then he turned his head as she slid next to him, “As for my abilities as a lover, I could not say. But I can say that from this moment on,” pausing to look into her eyes, “I no longer worship Jupiter god of sky and full moon, but Chandra Eastern Goddess of the Moon.” With that he pressed his lips against hers in fealty and love.
His mind showed this to be true. Thefarie, being given this opportunity, had softened his heart and was about to begin changing his ways to a new life he had yet to define.

Of course Chi was reading his mind, it was the only way to get anything out of him. Besides it kept him on his toes. With her her age, she had 2000 years of experience as a telepath. If she had trouble reading a mortal's mind she would be a poor telepath indeed.
The kiss caught her off guard. A show of fealty and love? Well that was a first for her, but then again she had never appeared to the mortals in quite this way, well hadn't quite picked one from a crowd. It was unlike her, but something in him had sparked interest in her and she wasn't about to let it go, not now, not ever.
She broke the kiss. "Not bad my dear Thefarie." She stopped and tilted her head to one side. "I prefer the night, it is more my element and I feel more comfortable in it. The moon runs out of its element when it appears during the day, I prefer to stay in it, I don't like the sun much. We've always been at such odds."
She smiled and admonished him gently. "Flaterer, though I don't mind being worshipped and you don't have to worry about Jupiter's wrath, I got it under control. So you are safe." She smiled at him again, paused momentarily, before returning his kiss with one of her own.
