Title: Time
Description: Everything just speeds by

Kenneth sat on a bench, his head hung near his chest. His legs were pulled up, and his elbows rested on his knees. The mortal wore dark jeans, a loose green shirt. He also had on an unbuttoned black coat that was not currently doing it’s duty of fending off the cold air. He wasn’t quite asleep, close, but not there. The adolescent mumbled something to himself while straightening up from his slumped position on the bench. He gazed about at his surroundings with tired blue eyes. The sapphire eyes traveled to the night sky above.
It seemed that no one ever took the time to look up anymore. They just rushed forward, heads to the pavement, towards to school, to work, to wherever. There wasn’t time to go stargazing. No time for anything but to drive forward within the crowd. Perhaps that’s why his aunt and uncle thought him bizarre for wandering into the attic and watching the lunar eclipse wrapped in a blanket a few days ago.
Kenneth sighed and stretched his arms to the sky. He should head home soon, the pair would be in a frenzy by now. He tilted his right wrist slightly so the bracelet he wore about his wrist escaped the holds of his coat sleeve. It was just a chain wrapped around his wrist three times. On it was a dark stone in the shape of a cross. The cross was a deep blue, barely transparent, within there were what appeared to be silver-like dust. He wasn’t actually sure of what the name of it was, something similar to night gold dust. On the back of the trinket a few words were faintly carved. With a bored expression he compared the stone with the sky.

A stick hits the ground a few feet from Kenneth and a large German Shepherd mutt comes running into view. The dog grabs the stick and looks up at Kenneth, letting out a slight woof before walking over and dropping the stick next to him, tail wagging.
Shouts come from somewhere as a girl calls for the dog, "Jerry Lee! Jerry, where are you? Where's the stick boy?" She comes into view, looking around, then spotting the dog. "Jerry Lee, your supposed to bring me the stick silly, not someone else." She smiles, walking over. Her long brown hair blows off her shoulders in a slight breeze as she walks over, stopping by the dog and petting him. "Sorry if Jerry was bothering you."

"No, not at all." he replied with a smile. That wasn't the exact truth, when at first the dog had appeared Kenneth had nearly jumped off the bench in surprise. Though the initial shock was gone, the drowsiness of the moments before was completely gone. He couldn't help but give Catherine a slightly questioning look.
"Isn't it a bit late to be playing fetch?" He found himself asking. Then again, he had never owned a dog himself, perhaps it was a normal thing.

She shrugs, "I'm more of a night person, and Jerry could care less what time of day or night I play with him, so it works out fairly well." She glances at her dog, who now has his paws on the bench, tail wagging as he sniffs Kenneth. She rolls her eyes, "Some guard dog..."

Kenneth looked at the cheerful dog and smirked. "Indeed, I can picture him trying to open the door to let burglars in." He felt a slight temptation to pet the dog's head, which he ignored. "His name is Jerry Lee?"

"Yeah. He may not be the perfect guard dog, but he is really obediant. I'm sure he'd pull through in an emergency. He'll attack if I tell him to, but the rest of the time everyone's his friend." She snaps her fingers and the dog comes and sits by her side. She scratches behind the dogs ear and smiles, "Though he probably would try to open the door if he heard a familiar voice."
