Title: Homeless
Description: Just a Little Depressed...
Sandra - November 16, 2003 06:50 PM (GMT)
Clare was tired so she sat. She liked the fact that the train was pretty much empty. She felt like she could just sleep here for the night. Of course food was more important then sleep, so she tryed to stay as alert as possible.
"Ya, no problem." She didn't really care how long it took.
Sandra - November 12, 2003 02:38 AM (GMT)
It was raining outside and, for the few that have nowhere to go, the only shelter you can get was underground. Well, that wasn't true, there was a shelter for the homeless but that would mean relying on someone else. Clare didn't like that idea, she was truely independent.
Ironically, she was dependent on her sister for previous housing. Now Clare was out on her own, oh how she loathed her sister. Clare was kicked out onto the street for nothing more than forgetting to watch over her spoiled brat. She had nothing but her baggy, brown, brightly patched jacket, a red shirt and blue jeans, her pack of cigarettes, matches and that ever present bandage on her nose. Oh, and two bucks, as if that helps.
She made her way deep into the subway station, looking for that people-less spot. She still working out the kinks to the "sleeping without getting caught by security" plan. She could just bide her time pretending that she was waiting for her train and, if anyone would ask, look astonished when she realizes she had missed it (aw shucks).
The walls of the subway station was covered in graffiti, the crappy quickly done kind, most of which shouted profanities not even Clare would repeat. She sat upon a bench that was forged against the wall, it was kind-of shaped like a cubical, so she had a little hiding spot if no one came too near. The floors of the subway station was colourfully decorated with muitiple gums and paper advertisements. Just one of your average "clean" subway station, very pleasant, if you like dirt.
Clarity sat and lit one of her reserve cigarettes and muttered "That bitch... She can't do this to me..." over and over again.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 03:12 PM (GMT)
"Harsh words coming from the mouth of a little lass.." He snickered, as he stood leaning on the outside of the cubile like structure, seemingly as if he had just appeared there or perhaps had been there the entire time.
He rolled a camera in his hands, looking down at it, then glancing back at the wall he leaned against. " Crashing here, ey? Its not too safe here, ya know, with the bums and such?"
Sandra - November 16, 2003 03:19 PM (GMT)
Clarity turned her head in a snap. Her eyes locked on Jonah's, her gaze spoke of murder. How dare he?
"Get lost! I can take care of myself!" She spoke with a strength in her voice but kept it quiet enough that no one around would notice.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 03:24 PM (GMT)
He chuckled and turned the corner of the cubicle to look at her now. A broad grin crossed his features. "Ah, the same little miss from the park.." He seemed to have not heard her demands for him to leave, even if he had there was no chance of him walking from the subway, it was his residence after all.
He drummed his fingers against the wall while with the other hand he tapped the disposable camera against his leg. "Haven't you heard about all the racket thats been going on down here? Wonder why only a few people dabble around here and look so skitchy?"
Sandra - November 16, 2003 03:32 PM (GMT)
Clare looked uncomprehendingly at Jonah. "Huh? What do you mean? I didn't hear nothing."
Even as she said it, she unconsciencely tucked her knees into her arms and glanced suspiciously at people passing by.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 04:17 PM (GMT)
He shrugged and waved a dismissing hand. "Well if you haven't heard, best keep it that way..don't want to cause any alarm.." Jonah looked away, gaze surveying discreetly a hurried woman who skuttled from the train on the other side and rushed up the steps and into the sopping world above. He turned slow back to look at Clarity. "..well, unless ofcourse you really want to know."
Sandra - November 16, 2003 04:24 PM (GMT)
Of course Clare wanted to know, but she didn't want him to know she wanted to know. She had her pride to consider. Plus the fact that she still wanted to sleep down here. Yes, sleep in sweet obliviousness. The oblivious factor was deminished a bit by him mentioning strange occurances but Clare could always tell herself he was joking.
"No, no. Probably all rumours anyway. I guess people can't live without lying to themselves." Yes, sweet, sweet lies. "So why are you hanging around down here?"
Jonah - November 16, 2003 04:30 PM (GMT)
His expression dulled to a decieving somber look, though within himself he continued grinning. "I was photographing some things for work.." He gestured to the disposable camera with now a distraught look on his face and yet inside he was still grinning.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 04:37 PM (GMT)
"Work? You a reporter?" Maybe thats why he thought to tell about the strange happenings in the Subway. Maybe he'd be more inclined to tell security about her. She had decided to guard everything she said if he was a reporter. They couldn't be trusted. She threw her long dead cigarette to the ground and smothered it.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 04:42 PM (GMT)
"Gracious, no! I photograph crime scenes for the Department of Homicide." It was partially true, he did take pictures of crime scenes, but only of the ones he had made, and indeed he did take the pictures for the Homicide Department, but not in the way most mortals would assume. He liked to brag about his wicked deeds, or in his eyes, his art. One of the ways he did this was by publicising the pictures, leaving them sometimes scattered in a park or on the sidewalk or even sending one or two to the police.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 04:57 PM (GMT)
Homicide? That's even worst than telling Clare exactly what happened down here in full detail. Her brain was now moving a mile a minute. If he's part of The Department of Homicide and there's a reason for him being down here, does that not mean someone has died?! Clare started seriously thinking of other places she could go. There wasn't any. It felt like saying I choose death when you really didn't and you couldn't change your mind.
"Oh." she said trying to sound uninterested. "So I'm guessing there was a crime down here. More money to you eh?"
Jonah - November 16, 2003 05:12 PM (GMT)
His nostrils flared though unless you were very keen on looking at people's noses it went unnoticed. The smell of fresh anxiety and worry wafted in and his inner grin darkened to a smirk while out side he remained somber as ever and gave a streesed nod. "That's right. Not only one though.." He let the last part to seemingly slip in attempt to give her a small fright.
He rubbed his forehead with the back of his palm and swore beneath his breath, all part of his act, playing with what may be on his plate or cup in a few nights or so. "You probably didn't want to hear that."
Sandra - November 16, 2003 05:52 PM (GMT)
Clare was more than a bit worried, she hated life but she didn't want to die, especially not before her sister does (She had dreams of spitting on her sister's grave.). She decided then and there to pretend that these tales were not applied her. They applied to them other people, who live normal lives and needed something to change it (or end it) because everyone knows normal doesn't exist.
"Must be one hell of a clean up..." She said off hand, and decided to change the subject. "So how's life been treating you?"
Jonah - November 16, 2003 06:03 PM (GMT)
"It is, they have yet to clean the rails, walls, and fence completely.."
Oops, did that slip? He thought to himself as he chuckled within himself but still keeping the act outside. He sighed and pocketed one of his hands as the other arm was raised up against the compartment wall. How was life treating him? Life didn't bother with him anymore and he was most grateful for it, but he went with the flow.
"With this job, its all stress. Usually don't get to sleep until early in the morning, and even so I am stuck with the scenes in my head through out my sleep and the next day and night.." He had decided to toy with her, knowing her wanting to change the subject but acting oblivious to her wants.
He looked to his camera and then back to her, now standing up straight and waving the camera lazily. "I have to get this developed, might you want to come along? Can grab some coffee and a bite to eat...." Judging by how she had come to this place to sleep he assumed that perhaps his offer, his bait, may be appealing to her.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 06:18 PM (GMT)
Hum... Did he say food? She decided to test this offer. "I would love to come but as you can tell I'm a bit short on funds..." Oh and she was pathetic, but pathetic might get her a meal ticket.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 06:27 PM (GMT)
He shook his head. "Don't worry about it." He freed his hand from his pocket only to place the camera in it. "I'll pay for it.."
The scream of a train coming to a halt echoed off the tiled grafitti walls and he turned his head to look as people rushed off, up the stairs, and into the rain. "Come let's catch this one." He said as he made his way through the dwindling crowd to the train.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 06:36 PM (GMT)
Clare got up slowly and half jogged to the train. She had been on a subway train a few times and every time had been a experience she could hardly shake, but for food she'd do anything. She entered the train.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 06:44 PM (GMT)
Jonah loaded on, and though there were plenty vacant seats he stood, one hand holding the steel bar while he glanced out the dark window the the concrete wall and cat walk. He could give up the act soon enough and with hope have himself a good meal. He looked back to her. "We'll drop the pictures off first then get something to eat."
Jonah - November 16, 2003 09:15 PM (GMT)
Jonah looked up and down the train car they were in, it was just them riding in that one, everyone else sitting quietly in the next car. So tempting, to just cross over to where she sat and take from her what he wanted, what he needed and lived on. His eyes fogged slightly, as a drunkard's would as he gazed upon a bottle of whisky or liquor and debating it.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 09:22 PM (GMT)
The rhythm of the train moving on through the tunnels start to take it's toll on Clare. Her eyelids started to get heavy, really heavy. She could think clearly anymore... Her head dropped. She snapped her head back up immediately.
She decided that there was a less chance that she would fall asleep if she started talking to Jonah. "I guess I need a coffee huh?"
Jonah - November 16, 2003 09:30 PM (GMT)
His eyes cleared, back to the empy and dead pale green they were. He nodded. "Yea..can't fall asleep on me now.." He grew disgusted of this act and so to hide his sneer he looked behind him, out the window just as the metro left the tunnel and came to the surface.
Outside, reb and blue lights flashed and yellow caution taped was put around a fence which appeared to be severly rusted and large was put in it, big enough for someone to get through the wire fence. On the other side, people in uniform hovered over two bodies, and stretchers and black body bags were retrieved from and ambulance. Jonah's sneer flickered to a soft smile, like that you'd see on a parent gazing down at their child.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 09:39 PM (GMT)
Clare looked out the window too. So, thats what Jonah was talking about, it seemed a bit surreal to be looking at it. "So that's the crime scene you were taking pictures of?"
She was wide awake and full of wonder now even though the scene was gone from the window. You don't see a murder scene everyday.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 09:44 PM (GMT)
He sighed as his work of art was passed by the train and he looked back to her. "One of them.. The other is a slightly older one, happened a month or so ago, though its not entirely cleaned up like I said earliar..still every on the walls and metro rails. There are others too, three more that we know of just like these ones. First one was at the Tequila in the Women's Restroom..poor girl." Ah yes what was her name? Molly? That sounded right. "The other two young girls...one lived fortunately, though traumatized and disappeared soon there after."
Sandra - November 16, 2003 10:08 PM (GMT)
"The Tequila huh? I've heard of that place. Gotta be some sick bastard to go in the women's washroom. Your job is sounding even more depressing." She said with genuine concern, very rare for her. "Why did you choose this career or did they just throw you in that department?"
Jonah - November 16, 2003 10:26 PM (GMT)
He was running short on believable lies amd so he went on as if he hadn't heard her. The train came a stop, underground again ofcourse and he looked to the doors. "This is where we get off.." He said quietly crossing to the door and out as the opened.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 10:34 PM (GMT)
Clare followed him out of the train like a lost puppy. She didn't recognize this part of the station but she didn't bother asking either, Jonah probably knew where he was going. She looked around for clues for which part of the city they were under.
Jonah - November 16, 2003 10:40 PM (GMT)
Jonah, without looking back, stepped onto the escalator and out into public, the rain having calmed to a drizzle. They in the central part of town, and a Pharmacy was just across the street with a One Hour Photo development in it. "Come on.." He called back to her as he ran across the street and into the bright Pharmacy. He stopped in the middle of the entry way and pulled out his camera along with a wad of cash, the green paper slips sptted in some parts with red.
Sandra - November 16, 2003 10:47 PM (GMT)
Clare run along with him and waited patiently while he brought out his camera and money. She didn't notice the blood. "So where are we going to eat?" She said in a hopeful tone.
Sandra - November 19, 2003 04:26 AM (GMT)
Clare was not completely ignorant towards Jonah's abruptness, she was slowly become suspicious of his behaviour. She was wide awake now and she watched every move Jonah made, hoping that he was just another fast walker. She just suddenly realized that she was following a complete stranger to who knows where with the upmost faith. She decided maybe she should try to get out of here as soon as possible, food or no food.
"You know, ya sound a bit busy. Are you sure you want me along?" She said hoping his 'friendly' behaviour shows up again. She didn't like running after him, what happened to the chat they had? Clare didn't understand people, but she could smell a bad situation a mile away.
Jonah - November 19, 2003 10:19 PM (GMT)
Jonah hesitated and nodded, trying to retrieve the kind act in his voice, this was growing frusterating. He was almost positive that his staravtion was just as much as her's, perhaps even worse. "Yeah..yeah. Best not be leaving even the toughest of people alone in the subway with the way things have been going.." He walked to the counter of photo development, standing there a minute before jumping over the counter and into the back room. A few minutes passed and he came back, stopping beside her. "Hungry?"
Sandra - November 20, 2003 12:52 AM (GMT)
Clare was a little more reassured that this was the same Jonah she met in the park. He was a quick walker, nothing more she justified in her head. Her stomach growled and she looked sheepishly at Jonah. "No, I guess it's not the greatest idea to go back to that slaughter house. As for that hungry part, I could probably go for a little something now."
She smiled, a little something being a whole cow in a bun, with fries of course. She didn't want to push her luck though...
Jonah - November 22, 2003 02:47 AM (GMT)
Jonah grimaced slightly, the mortal food was not at all appealing to him, though he knew how to get what he wanted. He nodded and forced a semi smile. "Hamburger it is then..Come I know a shortcut to the nearest one." He gestured for her to follow as he lead the way through the glass doors and onto the streets.
(want me to turn her still?)
Sandra - November 22, 2003 03:08 AM (GMT)
((OOC: Yep :D ))
Clare followed slightly behind and slightly beside Jonah. She brought her hands into her damp pockets. The rain had pretty much gone and a cold chill seem to rush out to replace it. She hunched her shoulders to the chill. "A short-cut huh? Must be some good burger joint for you to be remembering short-cuts. Which one is it?"
Sandra - November 27, 2003 09:08 PM (GMT)
((OOC: You know Jonah if you don't want to finish this you could at least say something!))
Jonah - November 27, 2003 10:10 PM (GMT)
He shrugged "Just this place I tried a while ago.. Cant remember what its called exactly." Cheesy Janes, that was the name but would his meal still wanna tag along if it heard of that place? He stopped on the curb of the sidewalk, watching as a few cars zipped by, waiting for a turn to cross. "We'll cut through that alley there and it'll be across the street." He pointed, and indeed just through the alley you could see the small burger cafe.
Sandra - November 28, 2003 01:05 AM (GMT)
Having hung around a lot of alleyways, Clare wouldn't have thought twice about cutting through another one. But still, remembering what her mother said about strange men and dark corners... Of course Jonah couldn't be one of those men, he worked for the police and officers of the law didn't anything wrong Clare reasoned. Besides she kind of knew Jonah... Maybe. Still she put it into her checklist to equip a knife in her pocket the next time she went out.
She shrugged her shoulders in answer and said "Lead the way." Her expression neutral. Her hands were inbedded in her pockets, she would be thankful just for a little warmth at the moment. Just the thought of a warm restaurant made her shiver.
Jonah - November 28, 2003 07:56 PM (GMT)
Jonah casually lead them into the alley, arms swinging slightly and his chin held high. Along the walls vermon skittered through garbage and paper, squeaking and making a rustling racket. Just as the cars ahead , on the road on the other side of the alley stopped (red light most likely) and a large truck dimmed the light n the alley by blocking the street lamp on the other side of the street, Jonah stopped. Midway through the alley, he just stood there, not turning to look back at Clarity, but his eyes narrowed and a smirk coming to play on his pale lips.
Sandra - November 28, 2003 09:42 PM (GMT)
Clare stopped behind him, confused. She didn't see anything in front of him that would be worthy enought to stop for. She was also starving. Why the hell wasn't he moving? "Hey, buddy, is there a problem?" She was very annoyed, and she felt like she was being toyed with.
Jonah - November 29, 2003 12:42 AM (GMT)
"Problem? No..not at all, not for me atleast..you on the other hand.." He turned slowly, and then in quick movements that a living body could not be capable of performing or seeing Jonah had closed the distance between them, his hand pulling hard on her hair close to her scalp. "You..have a rather serious problem on your hands.." He chuckled, four fangs glinting in the dim night light from the sky above. Witha hiss he jerked her head back and burried his face into the arch of her neck at shoulder, teeth piercing into flesh and vein.
