c: Intro PostThere was something about hospitals that he found uncomfortable.
Maybe it was the bright lights or polished white floors reflecting those lights into all eyes that dared to stare down at them. Maybe it was the ever present smell of disinfectant that threatened to burn through his nostrils like acid if he even dared to venture past those doors. Or perhaps it was the fact that so many people were in that building, so many good people. Mortals that were selflessly working way passed their waking hours and limit to help their follow man step away from the brink of death. It was something Michael couldn’t comprehend, refused to comprehend.
From a bridge that crossed over the underlying road to the hospital of mercy he had parked his car, a jet black Lamborghini of the Murcielago model.
From inside the vehicle he watched as the bodies of the three girls were carried into the hospital on stretchers. Blood drips attached to each girl’s arm as doctors and nurses fawned over their unconscious forms in controlled panic.
From his position above them Michael thought he could make out Mai’s eyes opening before she disappeared through the ward doors with her three friends.
The comm. in his car chimed, indicating an incoming call from his associates.
Taking once last look at the hospital entrance below him he flicked the comm. on.
“<<Japan to Kevinsanya, report your status.>>”
“<<The virus has been contained.” Michael responded with an air of irritated patience, “Next time make sure this kind of stuff doesn’t get past the borders.>>”
“<<The higher ranks wish confirmation of this status.>>”
“<<Then they have it. I took the last three cases personally.>>”
“<<Could you expand on that please.>>”
Michael sighed, switching his talking pattern to a more military style vocal. “<<The last three subjects infected were three high-schoolers of Japanese ethnicity by the names of Mai, Motoko and Haruka, all three subjects were female. Agent ‘Kevinsanya’ Sorn was sent to dispatch these subjects in an effort to contain a youth oriented virus that had spread past Japanese borders. Said agent tracked and located subjects within china town district of assigned city and proceeded in the dispatching of the viral infection.>>”
There was a brief silence on the comm. that meant the officer on the other end was momentarily busy recording what Michael had just said onto something, most probably a computer. He took advantage of this silence to switch the link from the comm. in his car to a hands-free comm. that attached around his left ear.
He got out of the car and closed the door behind him, taking a moment stretch out a slight cramp in his shoulder he locked the car with a remote and began strolling along the bridge. His coat fluttering around his legs as the night wind brushed it in its wake.
“<<Please describe the way said subjects were dispatched.>>” The officer finally chimed into his ear.
“<<Said agent came into contact with subjects at,>>” he checked his watch. “<<Nine forty-eight pm earlier this evening. Upon which the virus was extracted.>>”
More silence then, “<<Define ‘extracted’.>>”
“<<Said agent drank from subjects. The rest is restricted information.>>”
There was another silence but Michael knew that this one wasn’t because of a lack of speedy recording skills. This one was of disbelief and when the voice on the comm. next spoke it was a person talking, this one had the commanding tone of one of higher ranking.
“<<Agent Kevinsanya. Was your identity uncovered during this ‘extraction’?>>”
“<<Negative.>>”
“<<What is the current status of the victims?>>”
Michael frowned at the changed usage from ‘subjects’ to ‘victims’.
“<<Stable. I took enough to render the virus inactive, nothing more. I then proceeded to wipe their memories of the event and leave appropriate evidence to explain the attack.>>”
“<<Which was?>>”
“<<A stray animal attack.>>”
“<<And how confident are you that the victims will remember nothing?>>”
“<<Ninety-nine percent. If by the off chance that they do remember something it will be of some child molester stalking them. Most likely they will pass it off as a nightmare.>>”
“<<You had better hope they do. You’re tactics are too careless gaijin. I don’t know how my predecessors tolerated you but know that I won’t be so forgiving if you make a mistake.>>”
He sighed, “<<The tactics work. How or what I use to get the job done is not of your concern, only that it gets done and as for your predecessors.>>” He lowered his voice an octave. “<<Your predecessors knew what I was capable of and I do not ever make mistakes. Your opinion of me is irrelevant, just do your job. Kevinsanya out.>>”
He tapped the comm. to disconnect the link then tucked it inside his coat pocket. His mind already planning ahead for a large drug bust he had lined out soon.
His ears picked up a ringing sound that could only be the ‘silent’ alarm he had set in the asian district of Demaitre. Someone was playing around in protected property. He could also sense something else.
Someone was watching him and if he wasn't mistaken, this someone was high on his list of tab-worthy persons.
He smirked, now was a good time to find out a little about her.
