Wulfrun Hall is within walking distance of my house, so I may even treat myself to a half pint of bitter shandy when I arrive...

(Approximate) Setlist…may be in slightly wrong order, may have missed the odd song:

What About Us
Bo Demmick
Sparta FC
Ride Away
Mountain Energei
Mr Pharmacist
Pacifying Joint
Youwanner
Assume

Clasp Hands
Touch Sensitive

Group were worryingly late in appearing…Loop 41 tape intro tape aborted once…visions of band desperately trying sober up MES whilst Wulfrun Hall jobsworth looks on tapping watch…

But actually it was OK...a decent sized audience for what is actually quite a large hall ensured a pretty good atmosphere and MES obviously enjoyed playing his ‘is he completely out of control…or is he completely in control?’ mindgames with the crowd…and turned in a really enjoyable performance…lots of amp twiddling and other antics but a one point, after having his amp disconnected by MES, Ben just burst out laughing (but while the MES’s back was turned, obviously), so I guess they’re not too phased by this stuff anymore…

No ‘Blindness’ though, which was a bit of a disappointment…

Excellent...I'm pleased Ben can still see the funny side.

Although he managed a smile or two at Nottingham, they seemed forced, and on occasion he looked quite exasperated with the whole situation...

No Grass Grow, no Aspen, even though Spencer tried to start it twice.

MES was in full-on tampering mode, and I initially thought we were in for a few lengthy instrumentals when MES took several minutes to appear during What About Us? Mountain Energei was amazing, really taut and controlled. Pharmacist was great; even though I can't stand the damn thing usually, I really enjoyed it tonight. Clasp Hands was good too.

Ben walked out halfway through Touch Sensitive, having clearly had quite enough of being turned off, and having also given up playing completely in Ride Away previously.

Overall, not bad, not great.

Honourable mention to Pubic Fringe and JCC who were both excellent. Resist are utterly shite, bless them.

pubic fringe were the best band . [cheers for guest list ]

resist were better than preston

JJC seemed in a very good mood and told his usual jokes in a funnier way... well i thought the sound was good so i could hear him a lot easier

The Fall looked quite tired, but they played well enough.
The opener What about us was instrumental for about 5 mins ... then Mark came on and was just about getting into his stride by about 10 mins into what about us... when the band sort of tried to stop the song... but Mark continued singin the words... so they had to start it up again for another couple of minutes laugh.gif

AND THIS DAY

anyway i went after mountain energei - had to get home

cheers all those who bought the fanzine.. sold over 40 at a guess.

What the hell is MES playing at??? banghead.gif banghead.gif banghead.gif After a false start(intro tape then back to dj at about 10.10pm) they turn up at 10.25pm then play a 4 minute (at least) instrumental of What About Us and he finally turns up on stage, being lacklustre sad.gif barging the bass player(sorry I can no longer keep up with the revolving door) and turning his amp off halfway thru. I had to leave at 11 due to train shit (along with many others) and missed most of the set. Does he not realise that some of us have lives and we have to rely on shitty transport and have to pay £15 for the privelige. Tonight should have been great, good sets by support acts especially JCC applaud.gif then he fs it up probably half cut. I'm only glad I didn't have a ticket for last nights show. And by the way the new album is not a patch on the last one. It goes in the 'Levitate' category for me(One good track and thats a cover, see Grass Grow & I'm a mummy) sad.gif

Having been to Preston on several (football related) occasions, I can honestly say that almost anything is better than Preston sleep.gif

Sorry to any Preston residents - it's only my opinion wink.gif

they were the worst band that i've seen for a very longtime, and i've seen some shite over the years.

it's not that they're bad musicians, they're pretty proficient at what they do. but the real question is: why do they bother?
they're 15 years too late with the sound they have. it's a kind of emotive, slightly industrial metal (there is, as someone else has pointed out somewhere, a hint of toyah in there).
i tried to amuse myself by imagining that the singer was getting angsty over her kids' refusals to tidy their rooms, rather than the fact that mr x had left her or that nobody understood her.

i guess the real real question should be: how do the fall manage to continuously book such inappropriate support acts? wacko.gif

it's not the fact that resist appear to be of a certain age and are still carrying on that grates, it's the fact that they're still carrying on like teenagers.

nothing personal. i did like the man mountain of a bass player's denim skirt.

^they booked TV on the Radio in america i think like a few years ago. TVOTR are a really innovative band. They should aim to get bands like that again. Resist were not to my taste at all.

the only Fall support I recall really enjoying was Serious Drinking 20-odd years ago. Of current bands what about having Part Chimp as support next time?
