anyway ... as I posted on The Fall Fanzine thread.

due to a delay with my wife starting her medication [the reason I was gonna have to stay at home] ... I can attend the nottingham gig... and I'll be outside selling fanzines ...will probably get there earlyish about 7.30 -8.00pm ... but I'll have to get back early ... so I can't see me being around after 9.15pm

Say Hello !

It IS still on Dave.
When leaving the motorway and heading into Nottingham watch out for some of the sneakiest snidey speed cameras in the United Kingdom.
Same applies if you head south using the A1, A614 route in to the city centre.

I use Vosene, meself. wink.gif

Also, I think Messrs. Callsign & Clayts attend the same 'Hair Styled By Maurice' salon that Giant Haystacks used to attend, you know the one:

"Knots, Clumps and Badgers Professionally Removed By Our Trained Staff"

That sort of thing. tongue.gif

Just back and it was a very good night, although it was touch and go on a couple of occasions...

It was great to meet Michael, Mark, DJAsh, Jo, Clayts, Andrew and Dave and daughter - some pics to follow....

Set:-

You Wanner
Theme From Sparta FC
Bo Demmick
Wrong Place, Right Time>I Can Hear the Grass Grow
Mountain Energei
Early Days of Channel Führer
Pacifying Joint
Touch Sensitive
Assume

What About Us?

Higgle-dy Piggle-dy
Blindness

Touch and go because Mark walked off at the end of Assume after less than 40 minutes and I was worried they might be doing another Gateshead. Worries were compounded when they only came back for the one song and then went off again...!

All was well in the end though and it was a good set, eventually clocking in at around 65 minutes.

Sound at the Rescue Rooms was OK, although vocals were a bit muffled from where I was on the balcony

It was probably the finest version of Sparta I've ever heard, extended by a good minute or two. It absolutely rocked. It missed some of the backing vocals as the band didn't have any mics (Elena started with one but soon had it moved), but with some careful choreography the band managed some nice shouty bits.

There was extensive 'live mixing' after the first few songs, Ben repeatedly getting turned down and looking fairly annoyed about it. Steve on the other hand kept getting bumped right up, to particularly good effect on Touch Sensitive.

The band were good and tight, with just one slight false start from Ben on Touch Sensitive. MES was on fine form, moving lots to Sparta and others, and even doing some nifty handclaps a la Mick Jagger....!

Mountain Energei wa excellent, although Ben looked petrified about when he should come in after he had his amp turned down again. He was great though, with some lovely picked chords before the loud stuff.

Spen went for it all night as usual and lost a stick during one song. Elena keyboards sounded excellent, without the harshness from the first Sheffield night.

Mark lit up during Blindness (first time I've seen him do this in a while) and at one point peeled off one of the setlists from the stage and screwed it up!

Early Days was lovely and was played with real restraint, and Pacifying Joint was superb, introduced by a Ramones-style "1-2-3-4" from MES.

What About Us? was great with its extended intro, but again suffered a little from Elena no longer having a suitable mic. MES attempted to move one of the stands nearer for her parts, and on several occasions actually held the mic in front of her, but his timing was quite comical, cos he always seemed to get to her too late and then pull it away too soon! A similar thing happened on Higgle-dy Piggle-dy, although the song itself was absolutely brilliant.

Ben got a stern look and a finger telling him to turn to the front of the stage when he dared look at his amp for a second at the start of Blindness.

I sense there is now a great deal of tension between MES and Ben. There were few smiles from anyone tonight, in fact, apart from Elena who was grinning away and loving it, and the others looked thoroughly pissed-off when they left the stage for the final time.

Funniest bit of the night was when Mark turned to one of his mic stands to sing and then realised that the mic had gone...! Got a big laugh that did.

A good gig then, but I sense more cracks starting to appear...

yep, the band seemed more tense than during the gig here in March (except for Eleni, who at least seemed to be having fun with the front row). Spencer was not a happy fellow by the end...

That kind of tension in a band can breed a kicking set, and I guess MES is fully aware of that, but it might mean that the line up which has brought the band more acclaim than they have been used to for the last - what - decade? might be on its last legs.

top gig though!

Marvellous gig. The guy in the dark blue tee-shirt in the front row next to the bloke in the wheelchair... was possibly the most annoying twat I have ever seen at any gig. Tried to untie MES's shoelace, pulled at mic leads to try to make mic stand topple/move from MES, talked loudly during songs, constantly looked at his watch and generally goaded MES. A grade 1 wanker and, oh the injustice, he caught a drumstick. If the band HAD done a Gateshead I (having driven from Newcastle) would have been the instigator of a severe kicking for this loser.

That's a shame...didn't spot any of that from where we were.

I forgot to say that the mic was handed out at the end of Blindness, initially to Michael I think...nice one!
