In roughly the order of importance: the Fall show took place, the Fall show took place right on time, the Fall show was awesome.

The setlist, agreed upon by myself and my "special notepaper":

Youwanner
Bo D
Pacifying Joint
What About Us?
Theme From Sparta F.C.
Midnight Aspen
Mountain Energei
Clasp Hands
Assume
Wrong Place / Grass Grow
Ride Away
Touch Sensitive
Mr. Pharmacist
Blindness
-----
Carry Bag Man
Open the Boxoctosis

Wait, hold on, I've got more! Seriously! Just let me get this topic posted, okay! Geez!

Well, depends on how you mean... there was no stage-invadin' (let alone pants-tuggin'), but if you look up misbehaviour in a thesaurus, don't be surprised if there are a bunch of Fall forum usernames in there! Such as "clayts" and "pinhead69" and "LIBERTINO". I do not usually associate with people who could, if they wanted, break my neck with one hand and still have enough fingers left over to write a thrilling account of said neck-snapping in this very thread, but tonight I made an exception, and came away with neck fully intact. Clayts et al, I really did have a great time with all y'all of you all, it's just that I haven't felt quite so scrawny in a long time...

More tomorrow!

Mmmmmmmm, fuzzy head this morning due to several pints of stella in the Bow Bar where I met the aformentioned people plus Mr and Mrs Kurios Oranje.

Good night, no not as mental as Glasgow but we Edinburgers are more refined than our Glasgow cousins. We show appreciation with dancing and clapping of hands, not grabbing crotches and trouser legs. And yes we got Carry Bag Man!!
Ne ne ne ne ne ne!!!

So all in all a good two nights for the Pinhead fella prefering my home turf over the Buckfast fuelled Glasvegas gig. Why? Better sound for one .

What a scream it was walking into the Bow bar to see the place packed with identikit fall fans, christ we are old!!!! I had gone in expecting to see the 'odd' likely suspects in order that I could perhaps introduce myself to some fellow boarders, trouble was every fu**er was a likely suspect. Hilarious!

To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to look out for, did here a fair few accents not frim round these purts, but hey, this is edinburgh and you dont get too many locals these days.

I hope our southern brethren enjoyed their visit to one of my favourite pubs.

Going back to the age thing, having said that 'we' were all looking old in the pub, I was quite taken aback at the amount of pogoing going on up front. It added a nice edge to the night.

Arrived at the Bow Bar at 8 and as Silvershirt sez - everyone in there was a Fall fan - ain't seen so much black since Bauhaus reformed - rolleyes.gif

Sulphagne handily was dressed in green (not me favourite colour) - so hello Sulphagne, hello Libertino, hello Pinhead 69 and hello Julian Cope - sorry Clayts tongue.gif - oh and hello Mrs Sulphagne whose only two words that I heard last night were "Bum" and "Fuck" cool.gif

Word of warning though - watch yer beer when Clayts is about - tongue.gif - bleedin' chancer -

- despite being advised to give John Cooper Clarke a miss - I didn't - and now wish I had - I didn't think the crowd really warmed to him - and he wasn't as funny as the last time he was 'ere - although last time I was pissed which may have helped -

So - cue Fall - I had a gut feeling we couldn't get two cracking gigs in a row in Embra - so when Youwanner started I was looking anxiously for the arrival of Mr Smith - not to worry - he's right in there looking unheathily sober

You Wanner, Bo D and Pacifying Joint were thrashed through at breakneck speed - hmm mebbe it's a quick blast thru the songs and fuck off type of gig - wrong again - bass was fucking loud as well - slipping into too loud on occasion -

What About Us? - not a big fan of this but last night - applaud.gif - awesome -

After Sparta - Midnight Aspen - with the bass returning to fucking loud again - kinda ruined it - this song, I thought, was supposed to be subtle - probably not a word in the Fall's vocabulary

Mountain Energei, Clasp Hands, Assume (plenty of slam dancing to this one), Wrong Place / Grass Grow, Ride Away and Touch Sensitive thrash by before -

- Mr. Pharmacist - never thought I'd be glad to hear this again - like an old friend although Mark's vocals were cracking a bit - behind the drums for a restorative beer before -

Blindness - and goodbye Fall

Back they come for Carry Bag Man - Elena giving it an opening blast of "I am the Carry Bag Man" - panic again - she's going to sing it all (not that this would have been a bad thing) but no - back on comes Smith keeping his coat on - you mean your not staying -

and finally Open the Boxoctosis - and goodnight Fall

- so three times to Embra this year to see the Fall, suceeded twice and two cracking gigs -

Yeah, we were the ones able to hold our drink and who did not try to start a fight with a random bloke in the venue and then get a 'talking to' outside by the bouncers laugh.gif

Truly great night, and tremendous to meet members of the Scottish fall fan contingent who are all incredibly good company. Also, I must mark out iamcuriousorange who very politely put up with me calling her Kylie all night, and to mriamcuriousorange for not punching me either laugh.gif

Fecking Julian Cope ? My arse....only trouble is seemingly everyone in the Bow Bar agreed....Dagnabbit unsure.gif

I did try to steal PTCW's beer, probably on more than one occasion, guilty as charged m'lud.

Libertino and meself both arrived around the same time in Edinburgh, at about 3.30, so we put the spare time to good use by sightseeing and eating properly....I use the term 'sightseeing' loosely - the only sights we saw were the insides of pubs, and the only slap up meal we had all night was beer w00t.gif Tennants - mmmmm.

Naturally my memory of the gig itself remains very woozey, as oft seems to be the case for someone of my age/ability to remember through alcoholic fug.

As usual I wheedled my way to the front, despite furious oppostion from some 9 ft tall bloke who wasn't letting anyone past him....Got past him once Youwanner kicked in smile.gif

Comments about the loud bass are spot on : Mark cranked Steve's monitor to 11, and a few of us at the front were screaming in pain and imploring Mark to turn it down....me eardrums are still a little twitchy....I said, me eardrums are still a little twitchy.

Good crowd, very lively, and nice to see a metal railing at the front which responded very well to being hit by my hand all the way through the gig due to me being possessed by the Spirit of Spen at some stage.....Security tried to stop us banging on it and eventually gave up.

After the mainset finished me and pinhead69 were repeatedly singing 'open the box,. open the box, open the goddamned box' repeatedly until our voices went all squeaky like little mice.....we were blessed with our wish, but only after a thunderous Carry Bag Man - this really does fit in well with the set, I have to say smile.gif

Any road, a cracking gig, some smashing and very friendly people in Edinburgh - not bad considering I only knew about 6 hours before I left Bulwell that I was even going.

Thanks also to James, Elena, Neil and Brian - big beers owed smile.gif And a massive man-hug to Libertino fur putting up with my inane jabbering all night.

I am not guilty as charged, i did however get taken away by the bouncer but only because he liked my cap and wanted to buy it!!!

the "incident" was nonsense, pure nonsense!

The only lyrical oddity I can remember off the top of my head is that Touch Sensitive now includes the multiple-choice trivia portion of the evening:

Who wrote that car advert? Was it:
A: Simon Rogers
B: Alfred Hitchcock...

C and D were present but sadly unintelligible to my ears...

I think that C was Neville Wilding, and D was Julia Nagle.

Clayts! You come all the way up to civilisation to drink Tennants? Shame on you.

What pubs did you visit on your sightseeing jaunt?

now im sure clayts will say i was drunk too but i was downing the wifebeater at a steady rate of knots and some double J&Ds to boot

hence my cheeky remark to some punter who approached me who then overreacted somewhat casuing a bit of a scene requiring bouncers attention.
