Both Uncle John +Phil Schonfelt came across better in the close world of The Lemon Tree.
Too distracted at the QMU chatting to you, Tex, but last night I felt drawn into their songs. Don't know about beefheart for uncle john - reminded me more of nick cave if I shut my eyes (deacon blue if -------------------- Walk back two, three and four

yeh, i was at the Lemon Tree gig. what a bloody wait! great show though.
thought the first band sounded like a polished, Americanised, Birthday Party; so yeah - Nick Cave, definitley! the other dude, who i had never heard of before was ok, although i'd probably have enjoyed him more if there was less crowd noise while he was on, I always feel sorry for artists when they are doing their stuff and the crowd wont give them a chance; shame. The Fall were great, still going strong after so long, very agressive sounding last night, totally exhilarating, blistering, set. My girlfriend hated it (heehee) - always a sure sign of a great gig!!! |

I was there ... I think ... the late start allowed for far too many beers to be downed and by the time they came on stage I had convinced myself that making an arse of myself down the front was a great idea !!!
Apologies to anyone who suffered at the hands of a mid-thirties pished bloke in a salmon pink long-sleeve t-shirt The set was immense as far as I could remember ... it started with "Sparta" and ended too quickly ... I recall no encore or how I got home. If all Fall gigs are like that (this was my first) I'll be at many more to come !!! Anyone remember the set list ? Mark M |

In my limited 'Fall live' experience, I would say Fall gigs ARE like that. -------------------- Bright, bubbly and sizzling with split personality....

Yes far too many
Opened with Open the Box finished with a double length Bo Doodak and there was a longer than normal Blindness somewhere along the line too. No encore either. -------------------- In my opinion you don't have a clue

opened with Sparta FC then What About Us? Others included (in order of recollection) Wrong Place Right Time/I Can Hear The Grass Grow, Touch Sensitive, Boxoctosis, Mountain Energei, Blindness.
Interesting to see what appeared to be whole families at the gig, who arrived early then left about 11.30 (about 15 minutes before the Fall showed up on stage). |

Well we started off at the POW and then got to the Ltree to watch both support bands. Uncle J & W were much better than the last time I had seen them. Stoooges, Fall, Beefheart, Nick Cave etc all come to mind.
The second support act was not really suited to a Fall gig but he did win over some fans. There was a damn good turn out of young and old fans for Aberdeen - there was even an amazingly bad comb-over at the rear of the sound desk. The Fall came on after the whole venue seemed a little drunk at midnight. It was my forth Fall gig and the best IMHO. Very loud and MES was on top form despite the late hour. I canna remember the exact set list as I was dancing down the front, and trying to avoid getting hit on the head by bloke with GF who kept push each other over the barrier while pretend pogoing.... There was no encore and a few people complained about the short length of the set. But I enjoyed it and thats what matters. BTW I have a vague memory of people throwing botles at the stage before The Fall came on - did I imagine this? Dave PS the Evening Express had a review of this gig in Saturdays paper |

hi, yeah there was a fair amount of bottles, glasses etc being thrown onto the stage before the band appeared. it became a bit tense, the Fall came on 5 mins after that though so it phased out, gary. |

Quote from the review: "highlights included Extricate, First Place and Wrong Time" You know, the ways in which journalists perceive the world never ceases to amaze me. -------------------- I used to have this thing about Link Wray...

i must have been at a different gig from e.e. man-they didn't play pharmacist, extricate, and mark didn't give a "good evening, we are the fall" intro-he did give someone a bollocking about organisational inability though.
the set list sparta what about us pacifying joint clasp hands mountain energei wrong place right time i can hear the grass grow touch sensitive blindness boxoctosis bo doodak(??) no encore very good indeed-mes pretty coherent with lots of twiddling, keyboard playing (much to wife's irritation), good band-great bass sound. |
