a few wankers who thought they were at slipnot but they were soon sorted out

blindness was amazing

when they came on for the 1st encore mes already had has jacket on - either to get out of this city or lets get to the pub who knows? -

met a young guy who had never seen or heard the fall before but had been told that mes was THE man a genius

and 2 nice young female students gave me and imaglasgowoman their half full bottle of wine for the journey home

a brilliant night

Short and not really that sweet.... to be honest.
No Hip Priest for example.
Just a run of the mill gig I thought, check out the set list if you don't believe me.
Still enjoyed myself tho', it was my birthday after all.
Apologies for the shitty review, but my socks haven't been blown off tonight.
Maybe tomorrow I'll see it differently.

Now, where's my Peel box set ?

MES...comb yer fuckin' hair.

Didn't come on till after 1100.
Even with two encores, off by not much after midnight.
Shite night for my mate Tam, whose last train was at 11.10.
When they were on they were good though.
Setlist jumbled around a bit but nothing new.
More details tomorrow.
I start work in under three hours and I am drunker than I need to be.

..but at least there was a busker & some "internationally renowned" d.j to keep us entertained in the meantime.
'Blindness' has evolved into a complex beast, twisting in +out of itself;
bo doodak played as the first encore ..the set kicked-off with sparta - lively from the start then smile.gif

Need to get to work so, quickly...

Audience - 16 year olds and miners, of course.

Supports - Uncle John & Whitelock I enjoyed. They obviously love "Safe As Milk" but then, who doesn't. Phil Schonfelt I didn't like, drab acoustic meandering.

I got a sinking feeling when Alan Wise made a Hitchcokesque cameo but it seems "his car broke down" and they would be on at 11. Which they were, all looking a bit hacked off, especially Ben. There is, one suspects, an untold story here. Still, they took the best available option and ploughed into the set at merciless pace and ferocity, opening with a tremedous rattle around "Sparta". A couple of tracks got lost in the acceleration and a very "rock" overall sound but "What About Us?" and a blistering "Mountain Energi" were the highlights for me. Smith on top amp-fiddling, mic-shifting, stage-wandering form, often delivering from the very lip. A great "Boxoctosis" was slightly knackered by the fact that Ben & Steve's mics had been chucked into the kick drum by that time. Ah well.

Not a classic but still a great gig and a really strong turn out, definitely more people than the Ferry can hold so there must have been a good take up on the night, which is promising.

See you in Edinburgh.

Very rough set-list... not in order after Sparta.

Sparta FC
Wrong Place-Grass Grow
Touch Sensitive
What about us ?
Blindness
Mountain Energi
Boxoctosis
Mr Pharmacist
Bo Doodak

I've no doubt missed out a few, I'm sure I heard Clasp Hands, White Lightning and Contraflow too, can't be sure at the moment , my heads still a bit wooly.
Highlights for me were Bo Doodak and Blindness, surprisingly found myself with plenty of room for a boogie to both tunes.
Standing beside a bouncer helped I think.

All in all worth it I suppose, it was The Fall after all.
I just wished they would vary things a bit, and give us more than an hour.

Saw Fall for about 7th time last nite, but first for about 15 years nite and although impressed with newer! tunes like Sparta,Touch Sensitive,Clasp Hands etc, dissappointed slightly that things like White Lightning,Pharmacist are still played regularly. Personally, if old tunes are being played, would prefer delving further back for original stuff like Totally Wired, How i wrote etc.
Or am I just a grumpy old man!

First time I've managed to see them in ten years. Think the current line-up is excellent - they do seem a bit more simple and garage punk in their approach than past line-ups but no bad thing. Highlights were Sparta FC, Mountain Energei and Blindess - esp Blindness - as good as anything I've ever seen The Fall do. Would've liked White Lightning or Mr Pharmacist not both. But generally pretty great - I was at the back of the balcony and not wearing my specs - MES almost looked like he hadn't changed in ten years...

Really enjoyed the QMU gig. Felt like I'd never been away, saw "The Wedding Present" there only last month(although I shouldn't say this but I enjoyed the Weddoes better!,probably cos I hadn't seen them before). Yea not the best Fall gig but very memorable and far genius than your Kasabian(or whatever it is).

Also it was dead funny, MES switching Bens guitar off and on, putting 3 mics into the bass drum etc!
Good crowd, Some nice 18ish year old lassies there! (bizzare!)
and at the end some guy jumping onto the barrier and shouting at Elenor,
"YOUR BEAUTIFUL!!!"
Aw! sweet.

This was my third time seeing the fall, and this time i managed to convince my pals to come so it was interestin to see their reactions. We wer the youngest peole there (as usual), but i think i hav converted at least one of them. His quote : 'I've never heard anything like this before, yet i cant help being attracted to it' I was then able to put on an 'i told u so' attitude for the rest of the night!

Was that the motherwell gig where brix left the second time? where did they play in motherwell anyway?

One more question: did anyone else see mes strangle a security guard at the end? I didnt but my pals claim they did. If its true i will never forgive myself for missing it!
