This months Uncut gives The Fall Peel Box Set Five stars and has a brief interview with Marc Riley. Apparently Marc and MES made up at a friends party a few years back and had a great night!

The review comes..what?...six weeks before the release. huh.gif Ads at the back of the mag are advertising it..or maybe these are just pre-orders

The review & ads were probably booked a while ago for the original release date of 25 March.

Didn't know Woards of Expectation was unreleased. I must have a phantom copy of the song.

why is it surprising, Record Collector have been reasonably favourable towards The Fall of late, and I'm useless on names, but didn't Middles do the co-written with MES biog?

Hmm. Just noticed the wink.

I'm at work, so concentration on this board is difficult. Must remember to think before posting... banghead.gif

at least I've got an excuse to use this, just about, as my system has crashed for the 3rd time today... rolleyes.gif

A bit premature?
But when thsi thread is still going in 6 months time comments like this will seem odd too.
Even when it comes, it'll take a good month to absorb.
But I can tell you my review, cos we have had such glimpses over the years...the greatest recoring ever released.

Well, I've been listening to it for 2 1/2 months now. And I give it a 5 star review ***** wink.gif

The packaging should be very nice indeed, based on the artwork proofs I've seen. Big booklet, full of nice photos and lengthy sleevenotes by Daryl Easlea.

But the sound.... ah, the sound. biggrin.gif

Well after the "production" on Interim, the sound quality will come as a shock/relief/disbelief - a sonic earcleaning whistle.gif

Can I trade in my old copy of "Words Of Expectation", seeing as all the tracks on it should be in the new box?

They spent the evening watching a television programme in which the panel tried to guess what day it was.

It will still look good lined up with all your other Fall compilations you never play. Fall CDs as aesthetic pleasure.

HMV Shoppe price £24.99 + free new music cd

First Thoughts on the product as a thing of beauty:

Slimline cases 10 out of 10
Stiff Heavy Duty Box 10 out of 10

However...

Please desist from using "bootleg" stylee (inc legal requirement for 'bad printing' effect) when the actual box is made from First World White Card. What is the point in pretending it is made of bog-standard brown card, when it's actually lovely high quality white card with brown wrapping paper glued on it. Mainly because those tiny Chinese children who put the boxes together can't glue them on straight so mine's crooked.

Shame that screen-grab photos have been used (from the BBC4 doc), I would of thought the Fall Gruppe Org could have at least taught one band member to use a digital camera.

Shame the internal text is "house-style" Fall re-issues and the box text isn't.

Please remember that underlining is an instruction to the printer to set in bold (or emboldened) type. Underlining words when using desktop publishing is silly, just make it bold.

Could've done without the 5 page back catalogue advert in the booklet.

Captions would've been nice for the photos, also the page numbers over the images are a tad intrusive (I don't understand why all the page numbers are different colours to the body-text and set in bold).

I understand it is all part of a set, but face up it is impossible from the front covers alone to know which disc is which as they all have the copy and paste cover from the boxset cover.

I will peruse for typos later.
