Listening to Pale Saints and just thinking how much I miss them. One of the finest (and most overlooked) 4ad bands - at least until Ian Masters left.
To open up the poll, I've included some of Masters' post-Pale Saints stuff. The self-titled Spoonfed Hybrid album is particularly fine if you ask me. It's close between Comforts of Madness, In Ribbons & Spoonfed Hybrid, but at a pinch In Ribbons wins it for me. Remember reading The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer while listening to it and have always reckoned that a few Pale Saints songs would fit nicely in a Lynch film. After all he already used This Mortal Coil and Pixies (Ana) was played in rough cuts of Lost highway, so he must know something about 4ad. Er, anyone else like 'em? -------------------- |

I went for In Ribbons - the free 7" that came with it is great
I remember hearing Sight of You back in 1989, I went out and bought the 12" (Barging....) which also had the marvellous She Rides The Waves The Comforts of Madness is excellent too I also picked up the Half Life, Flesh Balloon and Throwing Black The Apple 12"s as they came out- well worth it. TBTA had a disgusting video. Didn't go near the Slow Buildings era stuff Saw them live once - supporting the Pixies in Dublin's National Stadium back in Oct 1990. IR£6.50 for a ticket. They opened with Two Sick Sisters, -------------------- |

Funny you should post this poll today... I only just listened to The Comforts of Madness again the other day after having completely forgotten that I even had it. It's my only Pale Saints record though, so I can hardly participate in this poll.
Was pretty amazed at how dated it sounds though -- a very specific early 90s sound, similar to the first few Ride releases... nice, but very early 90s. -------------------- I used to have this thing about Link Wray...

The self-titled Spoonfed Hybrid album is worth checking - much more in Keeping with Pale Saints than the Slow Buildings stuff, although at times it sacrifices their more powerful stuff for artiness. The ESP stuff (with Warren Defever from His Name Is Alive) is really good in an acoustic, pastoral way too. I once sent Ian Masters some questions for my fanzine and he responded entirely in mirrored handwriting which was pretty cool! -------------------- |

You'll be ok - the difference between Ride & Pale Saints to Slowdive and Catherine Wheel is like the difference between the Sex Pistols and Sham 69 (for want of a crude analogy). And wasn't that guy from Catherine Wheel the cousin of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson? -------------------- |

Levitation? The band Terry Bickers formed after being booted outta the House Of Love? BTW - Does anyone know if Pale Saints were popular in Australia? I distinctly remember In Ribbons promo posters in the background of Home & Away... -------------------- |

I dug out my Chapterhouse LP recently and found it to be quite good, 14 years on. -------------------- |
