Since this is a double CD, I presume it is from the original bootleg C90 tape which actually includes 5 tracks from SO 36, Berlin 23 May 1981- marked * above. The Hof gig by itself would fit on a single CD.

All of these are very well traded bootleg tapes.

And disappointingly no Deeply Vale, Bury or Queen Mary's College.

Yet (I suppose I should add).

How exactly *does* one get the rights to a C90 tape that's been knocking around for years?

I find this somewhat of a dissapointment, as there are better recordings of early shows out there.

The Retford one is the only one I haven't heard or got. I suppose seeing that Voiceprint are content to rip people off re Rude in the City they shouldn't mind if the same people photocopy their album sleeves, stick the bootleg tape inside it and have their own homemade Fall CD...

Bad show all round.
I bet they aren't off any newly found "soundboard" tapes either, just someone who traded bootlegs.

Piss? Taking the??

Won't be getting my cash.

Do they do this with other bands?

Bring out the Deeply Vale & I will open my wallet.

Maybe they are some newly discovered soundboard tapes, with the exception of the Hof show obvously.

It's funny to think that the "Vaults" might actually be Rob Aylings old tape collection.

If they were submitted by Mark, as was the case for "Live 77", at least that would probably mean they're pretty low generation.

I've heard several stories about this material. Rumour has it a large box of tapes came from MES' place when he was having a bit of a clean out last year....

They seem to be in chronological order. No doubt there are *lots* more to come.

The catalogue numbers start at HIPP006CD, and Interim was HIPP004CD... I wonder does this mean there are several other oddities penciled in for release...

Ah. If only this coherent approach extended to the actual content of the releases...

Interesting. Thought relations 'tween Schofield and Smith were frosty at best (seem to recall reading that Smith insisted she not be contacted regarding Fall documentary, for instance). Odd that her previous band would have a release coming out on what is essentially his label.

If the quality is as good as it gets for these shows, I think these gigs coming out is no bad thing.

However I would rather the pricing is closer to the 'Bootleg Box Set' than a tenner or whatever per disc...

Those 81 gigs were actually rather good in my opinion.

On my 'live box sets' poll (which has been and gone already sad.gif pah! 27 people wanted them...) my '3CD' suggestion for 1981, like all my suggested sets, was based on long held plans to put together collections for myself (it is an exhaustive task that takes forever and a day, but is rewarding), and the 1981 set for me would actually have been *5* discs, including those gigs...

Not it ain't his label - it's Rob Ayling's company not Mark's - see here

You must be thinking of Cog Sinister, which no longer exists as a separate entity, although was used as a label imprint by Voiceprint in the late 90s/early 00s - now Hip Priest, seemingly smile.gif

So if these are all former boots, would someone in the know like to make a recommendation based on sound quality, performance etc? Buggered if I'm buying the lot.

They're all good gigs... it really depends on the quality of the source tapes they've turned up. Glasgow '81 is a decent board tape - Spectre is cut on my copy (not sure if they're all like that). Los Angeles '79 (Marc Riley's favorite Fall gig, he's said) and Retford '79 are average audience recordings. Hof is quite good, also audience. Oldham is a very common board tape; sound is fairly good on my copy, not as good as the Glasgow.

If they've managed to turn up complete, master board tapes of any of these, they'd be worth getting. I'm fairly sure they'll be the common versions already in circulation, however, a la Liverpool '78.

may I add my comments on previewn typos?

Live From The Vaults - Hoff Alter Bahnoff 1981 (HIPP010CD) double CD
Alter Bahnhof, Hof, Germany 22 May 1981

Since this is a double CD … includes 5 tracks
from S.O. Club, Berlin 23 May 1981 …

right location is Hof (that is a city down south in Germany)
right venue is Alter Bahnhof (an unused, former station)

the Berlin venue was called SO36 (south-east 36) - a reference to pre war? postal codes.
36 was one number which signed the Bezirk of Kreuzberg.
