I really liked it. MES doesn't give much away, does he?

It's pretty insightful that he refers to gigs as "jobs". Sort of a Johnny Ramone thing going on there.

But yeah - really good programme. As always, I'd have liked a bit more 90s stuff, but there was real love behing the making of this one, I think. Really chuffed after watching it, definitely!

I seriously do not know why it was getting slated last month, before anybody had even seen it.

What a fucking great programme, obviously it is on tape now, see so VHS does come in handy for some things. tongue.gif

I enjoyed every minute of it, me and Gaz thought our gig was there for a min, but it turned out to be the Carling Academy. He did do exactly the same on Big New Prinz though played about with the amp and all that. Great show though, to everybody who contributed a big applaud.gif applaud.gif applaud.gif to you.

It was excellent despite the best efforts of Paul Morley's cud chomp.

Very enjoyable, as a new lover of the band it was an excellent introduction to their colourful past.

I was really very happy with it

Some tantalising glimpses of the history of the band - interesting insight into the Maida Vale thing - very poignant moment with Peel at the end

Loved the lyrics over the (I assume) Speed Trials stuff - very effective

Admired the quick run around the pubs of Prestwich

Thought Hanley and Riley were fair

All in all a very fair representation and accurate about the whole modus operandi of Mr Smith

Pleasantly suprised by A H Wilsons contribution

Not usually a big Paul Morley fan but I thought his analysis was spot on

Enjoyed it a lot

(did not enjoy seeing that crap rock family trees repeat before hand - but loved the Hollies and Hermans Hermits before then)

I will go to bed a happy man tonight

Never, prior to this, when I seen him do interviews (for example the Touch Sensitive DVD), he always seemed to be nervous. Although now I know it was not nerves, just brains, as he does not want to give his secrets away to the cunts that is the BBC. If you know what I mean that is? wink.gif

well i liked the bits with mes and the bits with the band

steve hanley is a very shy bloke

the guy who we saw in the pub was on a lot ...Alan Wise... i believe he is in fact the fall's new manager....

i can understand why mark didnt like some bits of it.... the way some of them went OTT praisin the fall would not have gone down too well... i thought the bit when they was sayin how really rockin the band had got now.... n then played this footage of em not soundin at the hottest that they r was a bit of a balls up.

liked the footage of the brownie's gig.... wasnt as violent as i thought it would be...

the funniest thing in it was near the end when MES sez .... yer know what? I'm actually gettin to be a pretty good singer.. it's takin me like 27 year or sth .... but yeah I'm a lot better now.... then they cut to him singin 'grass grow' in the most off key way possible

if yer didnt know how good the fall can be and u just tuned in ... u might come away thinkin the fall are sth of a bad parody of a band... that is the main problem with the end result... and they didnt intend this at all... but there were 1 or 2 parts that came across this way unintentionally... and i don't think they put the fall in the best light really....

good to here ben and eleni chatting in the interviews... strangely jim kept out of the interview bits ... which is a bit odd cos ..having met them... he is the chattiest i think... but maybe that is it though.... he aint so good on the monologues... prefers actual conversation... or maybe they just didnt think to ask him.. or it got edited out...

chris goodhead gets read out by peely in the docu.....early on ...

that's all i recall...

off to bed ... gotta get up at 4.30

Reaaly good to hear band members talk about the freedom they have and the seriousness of their commitment.

Great to hear such high praise as we ourseleves give being given.

What a hero.

You are completely right about if you were brought up in Broughton and MES' Mum and Dad was brought up in Broughton. Although MES was brought up in Prestwich and born in Crumpsall, that makes him a Manc and not a Salfordian, sorry.

Don't have BBC4 cry.gif

What all Fall members (past & present) were in it apart from those already mentioned? Any sign of Scanlon, Wolstencroft, Burns or Nagle? I imagine those 4 would have some interesting stories to tell, though they rarely get to tell them...

I though MES appeared very nervous in front of the camera - always scratching and moving around....couldn't really understand what he was saying either...but the doc did make me proud to be a fall fan

Nice to see I'm going baldy like SHAnley is....

Loads of great footage too....never saw the Victoria vid before...

Overall it was a good documentary....MES does plough his own field, doesn't he?

Oh and by the way the City Council officially recognises Mark as a Salfordian ( along with Robert Powell, Ben Kingsley, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Albert Finney, Jimmy Jewell etc etc)

Yeah, Prestwich is in Bury, which is not Salford. I am a Salfordian, I am from Broughton, I have only lived in Whitefield for four years. My accent is still as strong as it always had been. Although Prestwich is in Bury and that is still Gtr Manc, but is not Salford.

Funniest moment (aside from the one FFD mentions where MES states he is a good singer after 25 years and then segues into his horrendous I Can Hear The Grass Grow) was him picking his nose at the end, quite openly...

Thought the story about his grandad waiting outside the prison for new employees was funny when he said it was a bit like recruiting members to the Fall smile.gif

And I liked the bit where he called the band "kids" in the Peel session !
