Fall guitar (and bass guitar) tabs, (merged)

Ok I wouldn't be surprised if this question is asked quite alot but...Does anyone know any web sites with Fall guitar tab?

There's some guitar tab stuff on the Fall links page, but be warned - pretty much all of the stuff I tried was in the wrong key/had the wrong chords and notes. One of the problems of a lot of Fall stuff is that the guitars tend not to use conventional chords - and when you have two guitarists doing this (eg. Scanlon & Riley), the effect is fantastic, but it's practically very hard to figure out what's going on by ear. I mean, I still can't figure out "Wings" and "Smile" - deceptively very simple, but not conventional at all. Perhaps searching the web might bring up some results?

i am not a musician conway....when i played guitar it was just this mad band i was in....the bass player had just got this bass and just whacked it very fast ...it caused this rumbling noise... he didnt seem to care what anybody else was playin ......i would just play crazy chords.........the singer shouted ....n we had this heavy metal drummer ....and kazoos too..........it was very funny.....somehow we managed to sound good ....but we all got bored n split up...so maybe not that good as i remember...the only tape of that band went walkabout long ago....

i think mark's instinct against being too much of a musician is right though.... you need to be able to play a bit ...or u dont get anywhere of course... but u dont wanna get too good....cos that's almost as bad as not being able to play at all...cos then u start to get bogged down with the rules of what is correct music, and it all sounds too safe....or another thing that happens is u turn into jimi hendrix....widdly widdly widdly.....it's all very skillful...but just boring....

Ain't nothing boring about Jimi Hendrix my friend......

and besides.... the only players who knock others for having too much skill are those with too little skill or to put it another way.... players who suck themselves....

and u r wrong about the all the rest too....the fall may have gone beyond what punk did..... but it is essentially punk since it works by using diy rules of music.....as opposed to copying to death what others do in order to learn how to play...as was how the beatles did it.....hence a lot of beatles records r boring [especially mccartney's].....good job they was interesting composers......now if u like nice skillful music ...maybe that's where your head is.....but lots of skill aint essential to makin music that does not suck....imagination and an ability to make the right kind of noise is pretty essential though

Hendrix boring
Yeah! I think Hendrix is bloody boring (and always have!) but it's like learning Shakespeare at school, you can't criticise him or say that his writing does nothing for you because it is Shakespeare. Hendrix is up there with Rory Gallagher , The Beatles (God! how I hate it when I see them on the front of Mojo, Uncut, Record Collector) The Who

I'm not interested in how technically brillant a guitar player is if he/she bores the pants off me!

The beatles were hardly the most proficient instrument players. Lennon was rubbish technically. Mcartney was the only one with real ability. Their strength was the tightness of the unit.
And all those early records were total shit. Mildly interesting at best. The White album was when they were good with ideas flying around and making interesting music.
Technical ability is generally irrelevant to music anyway. As long as the music is played with passion and inventiveness it will be good.
I am a pretty proficient guitar player and do know a good amount of music theory. I can throw off note for note renditions of hendrix etc.. But to be honest the theory is far at the back of my mind when i am playing or writing. The only time i ever really think about it is when somebody asks me what chord i am playing or scale or shit. And when I am playing or writing my style is harsh and purposefully raw with piles of bum notes. I like playing like that rather than it being lack of ability.
And to be honest i do prefer to play with musicians who know what they are doing. Not a great knowledge of scales or modes or compund timings but the ability to just play without having to be shown the chords or the rythm a million times.

Mark hates musicians for completely different reasons than you have put forward. In fact i suspect the hatred has nothing to do with music.

i think lennon just didnt wanna learn to play any better once he reached a certain point..[more wouldnt rather than couldnt]...agree though.... the early beatles records were shit...and the white album is the best...sadly....i like some lennon's solo stuff and some of yoko's stuff better than the beatles.....well i find it more listenable anyway.

No shit sherlock...... but only those without skills tend to criticize those who have put in the time and effort to acquire some..... It's like the fat girl who eats all day and then talks trash about the hottie who keeps herself in shape.... and punk music isn't DIY.... it adheres to form just like every other genre of music.... punk bent the rules 25 years ago (as did Hendrix a decade before that) and now it's as recycled as boy band pop music.... Lennon maybe wasn't the most technically proficient player to ever grace the earth but he didn't need to be.... his strength as was Mc Cartney's was in melodic and lyrical composition ... and at the time no record broke the rules as brilliantly as Sgt. Pepper's...... Maybe you should try to learn to play an instrument and then tell me that Hendrix and Lennon are "rubbish".... because you'd find out pretty quick that it takes a hell of a lot more effort than posting 100 threads a day on a rock and roll message board....

oh i see why u thought i was slagging off lennon...u mean the 'it's not lennon n mccartney bit'....well what i meant by that is ....whereas lennon n mcartney's stuff does tend to fit very well with chord books and music that follows nice musical rules... the fall does not fit in with that mentality...cos with the fall it needs all the instruments to make it work...and create the dischord...well that is what i think anyway.....therefore u r better off adopting a different strategy when doing fall songs....just play it any way u like so long as u can sing to it....unless u wanna be in the fall or sth....maybe one of em would teach it u then....

oh and i think the fall r so unique they r almost a genre in themselves..... but i suppose they would fall under post-punk /experimental....

i think pere ubu r very unique as a band too....maybe they should have their own genre named after them too

Oh dont get me wrong the Beatles were the best. And I love Imagine. I even like Yoko.
I mean I was in the Fall for 2 years and was partly responsible for AYAMW so I can hardly stamp around slagging anyone for technical proficiency.
I was just trying to say I couldnt care less about it. When i hear that piece of music I love, I love it unconditionally.

Although I do like that yes album with Starship Trooper and shit on. I blame my dad for that.

Do those lyrics fit into the timing of the song ok...or is the meaning altered a bit....i think songs sung in a different language r sometimes better ...i like the 2 german sung versions of the beatles songs sie liebt dich and kommt gib mir deine hand

Think I've figured this out, bhantu - try this using the low E and A strings:

E (Open E)-G (3rd fret E)-B (2nd fret A) -D (5th fret A) - G (3rd fret E) - C (3rd fret A) - D (5th fret A) - E (Open E) - G (3rd fret E) - B (2nd fret A) - D (5th fret A) - G (3rd fret E) - F (1st fret E) - A (Open A)

Once you get the rhythm of it too, it should sound OK. Let me know what you reckon.
