Hmmm...well...I don't know what the others will think but that was the worst Fall gig I've been to in a very long time. Every other bugger on the bill managed to keep to their timing, but no, MES and co pitched up 20 minutes late for what felt like a fairly short set with that Granny on Bongos feel to it.
I didn't enjoy it but I heard some folks saying it was the best they'd ever seen them, so who knows.
LFO were ace though. As were TG, oddly enough.

Do they plan to show any of this festival on TV?
I know ITV tends to show some odd festival footage of a nightime....

welll...As I remember they did Boxoctosis, Sparta FC, Wrong Place.. and er, a few others. I got so fed up that I went to buy crisps at one point (I do get very churlish about things Fall-related, in that I'd rather not watch when they're bad!).
Nice to see Private Peterssen (little toy soldier) stationed keeping watch on Eleni's keyboard, that was a bit of a coup for us who'd spent the weekend distributing them. heh heh.

Probably about the 20th or so time I've seen hem and I actually thought they were great. Opened with Box, did Mr Pharamacist, Wrong Place, Sparta & a great version of I can hear the grass grow. MES seemed to be in a bad mood, but still managed to pull it off, fiddling with the amps & pulling the mic from the bass drum (de rigeur it seems these days). Yes they came on stage late, but one of the lads I was with thought they were the best band of the weekend (they weren't in my opinion).

Great sets from Lightning Bolt, Wolf Eyes, Minutemen, Shellac, Little Wings, Liars, Pelican & the awesome SunnO))) who cleared the room with their unique brand of "make the audience shit themselves" lo-fi doom metal.

A great weekend.

I thought the gig was great actually, the sound was good, and the version of blindness they did last was an interesting progression from the peel session.MES seemed happily grumpy,i got pissed with the band afterwards(minus MES)and was told MES wants them all rested to record the new album in NY in jan/feb.after which implosion seems to be expected.i think its a really interesting time for the fall right now.

Sorry if that sounded a bit dramatic,i'm not mentioning names but band members seemed resigned to some change after recording of album.but all in good spirits.

Surely expecting line-up changes is part of the job description these days, though?

Yes, I saw Lightning Bolt, they were awesome. I also saw them last night here in Nottingham & they were fantastic too (in fact, I've seen them 4 times this year luckily for me). They're flying back to the USA today, so won't be in the UK for the near future. They play on the floor, setting up their amps & drums in about 5 minutes, steadfastly refusing to play on a stage. If you get any chance to see them live at all, then grasp it with both hands.

I found them a bit boring live to to be honest Dr. Saw the first 15 minutes before racing upstairs to see Melburne's Bird Blobs (who despite the awful name were very good in a Birthday Party type way).

The Minutemen Mike Watt/George Hurley duet was the highlight of the weekend for me. Soopoib.
