Anyone got any news about this? What was the set-list? Were all The Fall present? Did they have a new drummer? Did they play any new songs? Etc, etc.... smile.gif

Post your reviews here!

Played one hour (2220- 2320ish):

Boxoctosis
Clasp hands
Bo doodak
Mountain energei
Sparta FC
What about us?
Wrong Place>>>>>>>>>
I can hear the grass grow (no guest vox)
Mr Pharmacist
Mad Mock Goth
Green Eyed Loco Man
Touch Sensitive
Encore:
Blindness
White Lightning

Smith arived late into Box , shoved Watts, thought oh fuck whats gonna happen...it didn't, very calm...Shipman highlight by a mile - splendid call and response between Ben and Eleni.

Busier than April Lpool show but less whacked - no three days at races this time. Band tight , smith not deranged, set dull but keyboards & backing vox up in mix. Ben not as in charge as previously, more of co-op sort of band vibe..no complaints. Got a friend to come after about 10/15 yrs without seeing them and he loved it btw!

Good news for technopops...taped it (first in 10 years) and technically aware Tocknet is putting it up as Torrent sharpish..warning switched tape over and missed TS intro..bah!

PS:saw Pseud Mag readers no sign of FFD to buy it ...fuck, postage needed now!!!

Happy and Wired. bb

BB has nailed the gig right on the head.

As soon as MES came out and stumbled I thought "oh here we go" but the gig was great. The curfew was broken by over 20 mins which MES mentioned in one off the songs.

John Cooper Clarke was in fine form as well.

I also taped this gig and is available to trade rolleyes.gif

A solid enough performance, band sounded as good as they probaly will ever do and Mark didn't try to mess things around too much. If anything the night was a bit uneventful, but as I was feeling a bit unwell I had to move to the back of the hall, and so may of missed any of the subtleties that went on onstage.
Elini looked as good as ever and Mark's mother and sister were in attendance sat at the back of the hall.

Freaky warm-up act

yeah it was back to the usual band - all present & correct, order restored after the previous night's anomaly. they all looked pretty happy & smiling, seemed to be enjoying themselves & the audiences postitive reaction.

there was a funny incident at the end when MES was attempting to extract his coat from the front of spencer's drumkit where he had flung it at the beginning. it had got stuck over something & wouldn't budge. he tugged so hard the whole kit was lifting & shaking! laugh.gif

mark had a quick go with 2 drumsticks in one hand on spencer's kit & eleni turned up her keyboard whilst he played a series of random notes. she stood aside, turning round to reveal (very puposefully i think) a pretty stunning pair of tights with this amazing strappy design thing going on right up the back of her legs! mark did quite a lot of mod mock goth out of sight behind a stack of monitors. later a half bottle of whisky appearede & i dunno if he was having a swifty behind there.....

audience again seemed very up for it - all shouted hard for a further encore but i think the venue wanted rid of us! it also felt fuller than last time in liverpool.

also - a very pissed bloke got on stage & had quite a while doing a little shimmying dance before the security escorted him off. he caused no trouble & the band & mark looked on rather fondly & amused i thought!

marks mum looked glam as ever - sitting on a padded stool at the back of the hall, court shoes & coiffed hair! he does look so much like his mum...

all in all a great night - long drive there & back though so feel a bit tired today
good to catch up with a lot of ppl from the forum too biggrin.gif

Fallchase may never recover from these rather intimate details of E's tights...

the zip up jacket he often seems to wear - a shirt - not white, but pale-ish.... srange lace up shoes.... not the polished 'man on a night out' smart shoes he seems to favour & whilst not trainers (one thing i couldn't imagine him wearing)- but sort of odd, casual things. a strange style. he had to re-tie laces at one point. trouser wise can't remember - jeans? usual gold bracelet thing too....

First Fall gig in quite a few years. First saw Fall in 82 in Glasgow. (Stonking 'And This Day' for about 20 mins as encore....ah, memories). This was almost up there with that. Band tighter, anyway. The highlight, as previously posted, was an exhilirating version of 'What About Us?' Blindness was ace also, but surely Pharmacist and White Lightning have been done to death...
JCC was excellent too. Great rant about cross dressers, included the classic line 'A woman trapped inside a man's body, You feel like Madonna and look like Bill Oddie'. Priceless.

btw if anyone wants to sell it at gigs ...just let me know ...i can bulk send U 6, 10, 15, 20 or 30 copies if u think u can sell em at a forthcoming gig...COS THIS IS WHERE THEY SELL QUICKEST.

they will still be £1.50 each [I can't make them any cheaper] [+ as cheap as i can get the postage ...i think i can send 6 copies for about £1.20 to the uk ...or £2 worlwide as surface mail small packets...very slow to deliver though...]

but if u sell them for £2 each...it will give yer a bit of a reward for yer trouble.... and might even pay for yer gig ticket...

BUT ONLY BULK BUY IF U THINK U CAN SELL THEM ....COS ONCE I HAVE SOLD TO U ...THEY CAN'T BE RETURNED...AND I CAN'T RETURN THE MONEY...

the more copies sold means I buy more fall records to give away as prizes...so the fall benefit too.

Afew random thoughts about last nights gig.....

Cracking venue save for the mile long trip down a thousand stairs to the toilets.

And is it only at Fall concerts that a mile long q crops up outside the gents and blokes sneak into the ladies?????

JCCs "cross dressing" routine gloriously well observed but that new one about charver society so poignant. He can still ruffle feathers. Bless.

No draught beer? Doesnt anyone drink it anymore? Am I that old old and out of touch?

I did worry when Mark lurched onstage and shoulder chaged Jim. He looked very pissed.....

For no good reason.......The next 80 mins was wonderful.

Why was the back-drop taped up back to front???????

Thanks IanMcC , seems obvious now.

The stage invader was tolerated until he exited stage right only to reappear spurting mouthfulls of gob into the first few rows. Clearly thought he was doing The Lurkers circa 1978.

Spoke to FFD!

Alas, only to say "no thanks" to his offer of the new fanzine, my reason being that I was with a new girlfriend, a Fall virgin, and didnt want to appear to be too "into them". Which I am. My problem entirely! I'll have to buy through this site.

I missed the middle as I descended to the depths of the academy ..for the gents, but thought the effort had looked promising - like at first I was surprised to hear morrissey's last of the whatevers, but enjoyed the way it morphed into the bloated voice of the podgy elvis ..when I returned it was michael jackson's thriller, which I didn't grasp the point of.. anyone?!
Echoes of this came back later as we trawled the streets of Liverpool for a viable club - ended up going past The Cavern, up the stairs of which came the familiar sound of our michael..
