My wife has just phoned to tell me to put Radio 1 on. I can't stop crying. I've listened to him since I was 7 years old on a little radio under the bed covers (well, obviously I didn't listen to him under the covers anymore, but you know what I mean). A part of my life has died.

Terrible news. Only recently, on a documentary about Vivian Stanshall, Peel commented that he thought it’s always the wrong people who go, and that he could think of countless musicians etc whose deaths wouldn’t bother him in the least... Irreplacable I’m sure. RIP, and let’s hope there’s a good record library in DJ heaven.

Somebody elsewhere has just suggested that rather than have a minutes silence for him, there should be a minutes noise instead. They suggested Napalm Death, I'd suggest And This Day.
