Just returned from the capitol of Lebkuchen.
The Fall played a very concentrated but weird set at Nürnberg’s K4. The Festsaal is located in the building of the former Kunstverein, set up at the fin du siècle. The marvellous and beautiful venue, looking like a representative town hall, was one third filled - so about 200 people were there. The Fall entered the stage at 10 pm and played a short one hour set including one encore. Box was the song to start with, they had to interrupt because Spencer got trouble with the bass drum. Before restarting Box Eleni played a synth only intermezzo. Bo Diddley got ready, as the text sentences were totally different to the Cologne version. As Box was a tough version the slower Diddley leaded over to Buck’s. MES used several microphones and tried to improve the sound with taken the mic off the bass drum. As the soundmen on the stage was a control freak he immediately went to the bass drums and fixed the mic settings. At this night this poor bloke was very busy and he got in some discussions with MES who with a smile in his face explained him that he would better stay away, followed by several fuck offs. Box, Bo Diddley, Bucks, Sparta, Wrong/Grass, White Lightning, Janet, What About Us, Mountain, Green Eyed, Blindness (perhaps not in correct order) was the set, as encore they played F’-Oldin’ Money. During the encore Eleni was missing, MES wearing already his warm jacket started this farewell tune with a short keyboard intro. Despite the shoutings for another encore the band didn’t retake the stage. Especially Steven’s sound developped into a strong and own powering sound. It is great that Eleni’s vocals and synths became more powerful! On Wrong Place, Right Time she was beating the rhythm with two empty bottles. MES fiddlings with the amps and his improvings with the mics were done very sensitive, indeed all songs became more intense thanks to his changings. Unfortunately the busy soundbloke were returning on the stage and he was resetting the improvements after a few seconds - this was very annoying. Maybe this was the reason that they didn’t want to play a second encore. Due to the great architecture of theís exceptional venue the sound was magnificient. The Fall 2004 are brilliantstorminghot, now two dates are still left on the continent. Munich, the secret capitol city, be prepared for tomorrow and enjoy them! BTW For the record, Musikverein was the organiser, K4 was the venue. K4 is the old youth centre. |
