OK, you skinny rats...

1. Name the foppish journalist who attended the Sex Pistols' debut gig at St Martin's while he was an art student there.

AA Gill.

2. The sleevenotes for which 70s LP contains the following deathless prose:

"such psychic weaklings has Western civilisation made of so many of us"

Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka

3. What is the connection between 21st Century Schizoid Man and Land of Make Believe by Bucks Fizz?

The lyrics for both were written by Pete Sinfield.

4. Which Brummie band's drum kit was pressed into service for the first Cravats single?

Judas Priest.

5. What do Love Me Do by the Beatles and the anarcho-punk classic Can't Cheat Karma by Zounds have in common?

Both bands had a session drummer imposed on them in the studio by the producer.

6. Which LP sleeve contains endorsements from Jonathan Demme, Mark Edwards, Thurston Moore, Mac McCaughan, JG Thirlwell and John Peel?

The American promo for The Infotainment Scan.

7.What do Crass, This Heat and Fushitsusha have in common?

Charles Hayward has played drums for all three bands.

8. Which song was covered by both the Pogues and the Skids?

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.

9. What do King Kurt and Snakefinger have in common?

They both released stuff on Ralph Records.

10. What links The Idiot by Iggy Pop and Dare by the Human League?

They were the last records heard by Ian Curtis and Lester Bangs, respectively.

Correct! The Skids covered it on their 2nd LP - can't say I've ever heard it, thank God.

Shane did a very effective vocal on this. It's pretty much an anti-war song when all the verses are done, which the Pogues did.
Yeah: Crackling Rosie: What could they have been thinking?

I much preferred their original 7" version - the Rum, Sodomy and the Lash one seemed a bit over-elaborate in comparison.

3. Both have words by that master lyricist Pete Sinfield
(who can forget his immortal line "the bearded sea-goat casts his runes thru walls of mirrored tears...."? Not from either of those songs tho, I don't think.

Well played sir!

I did wonder if I might have made a bit too obscure -oh well, too late now...

Anyway, the answers will be worth knowing (hopefully!).

Your second instinct was more accurate - although I love the idea of Danny Baker being an arts student at St Martin's!

Oooooooh - no, but he was later at St Martin's so you get a bonus point for that.

#10 - Iggy did a track on The Idiot called Nightclubbing - Human League did a track on their Holiday 80 EP (just prior to Dare) called Nightclubbing.

Not sure if it's the same song or just the title linking...

{Awaiting inevitable mockery... rolleyes.gif }

Remember rainmaster, the fun is in the playing so let's put Mr ohdear.gif away for a more appropriate occasion and celebrate biggrin.gif your having taken part and all the joy that comes with that. I'm sure that if Mr Cap weren't so busy he would already have awared you a rollover.gif for your fine effort and your taking the time to make such a well informed, though incorrect, guess [it seems],

[you can say,"Of fuck you" if it make you feel better]

Nice lateral thinking but the link I'm looking for is much more macabre.

Actually I've just remembered that my original question stated that the individual concerned is a journalist so I'm afraid that bonus point has been unilaterally withdrawn!

10. The Idiot has been the last record Ian Curtis played before his suicide. Dare was the last album Lester Bangs heard before his death.

5. I can only think that a variety of different drummers were employed on both records.
