Just to keep you in the loop, I have not been sacked. Comments on the fall news page about me being on a warning are completely untrue, there have been no warnings and no sackings as far as i am concerned. Certain individuals have tried to have my job but they over estimate their own importance.

I am only familiar w/ your work on Real New Fall. Hard to get last few Fall releases in the US but I'm working on it.

Just wanted to say I think your style is just aces. Very fresh, unpredictable. Cool sound all around. Lots of subtle washes going on along with the sonically challenging. Quite a mix and it's always nice when you hear an album and it's obvious the band worked and thought out their parts and have tried to instill dynamics and something new to an album rather than relying on formula, derivation of top of the pops tunes and doing essentially the same dozen songs over and over and calling it a record.

Thanks for all your hard work. You are a boon to the band for certain.

Dave is the best Fall drummer I've seen, and what fab backing vocals he adds to Boxoctosis and Contraflow when they play live. Everyone's pretty much been in agreement that the last couple of tours have shown The Fall at their best yet.

Ben is a fantastic guitarist and also a top bloke. When I went to see the Fall in Stoke last year I bumped into the band minus MES playing pool in the pub next to the venue. I said hello and Ben, obviously spotting I was on my own, introduced me to the band and made sure I'd got a drink. He's one of the friendliest people I've met and thanks to him I've seen the Fall more times than I'd possibly have been able to afford! Long may he reign.

Now for some shameless plugging on a completely unrelated note: a bunch of Fall acolytes who go by the name of JAIL are playing the Manchester Roadhouse (on Newton Street, off Piccadilly) this Thursday (17th). One of our songs continues the story of The Man Whose Head Expanded, and there's talk of a two-bass line-up on some of the tunes (now where did we get that idea from?!)

It starts at 8 and it's £4 in. You can get a ticket in advance for £3 from lead singer Jon if you call 07951 501256. We may even assist in the cause of getting the Fall's new single heard by as many people as possible by covering Sparta FC.

Good news indeed about Ben (and, I presume, Dave as well).

But…the fact that Ben didn’t appear to know from one day to the next whether he was in or out of the group does make you wonder what the fuck is going on with this group. Yes, I know the Fall have always been utterly chaotic with regard to personnel and, yes, we all like to have a good chuckle over the insults MES slings at his musicians…but I for one would be a good deal happier if MES actually showed a little more respect to the people around him.
