Just got back from the Sunday night Cartoon gig and I have to say -
what a rip off! Really looking forward to it and what did we get? FIVE
tracks, two of which were repeated, and that was it! Mark et al: how
long were you on stage? Twenty minutes? No encore, nothing - are you
taking the piss or what? Everyone I spoke to felt cheated. For the
sake of everyone who's bought tickets for the rest of the week, I hope
it's better than tonight.

Morning all.

Got back home from Croydon at 1.50am-ish.

What can I say, a fine evening despite everything. In no particular order it was great to meet Mohican Karl (thanks for the taxi ride to the car!), Max, Chris Southon, Toby Dynamik (now we know how to pronounce it - if not spell it without help) and friend Nidge, Kelsa Deaf Wife, Jon, Clayts, Kiespijn, Mjungblu and Mike (to be The Man Who Wrote 'Autistic Man' hopefully), and all you others - too many to name.

Cupid's bullet setlist is about spot on, except to add Steve Trafford's departure for about five minutes of Blindness before returning to complete the end of the song. Despite his bass sounding a bit troubled by that point, which was probably how Steve, if not the whole gruppe, was feeling by that point. Perhaps that was part of the overall problem.

Anyway, the sound overall I thought was excellent. My ears are still ringing now. And another excellent episode of The Fall soap opera. I await details of the next episode with baited breath.

I suppose that was one advantage of a short set. biggrin.gif

Wasn't a different set list promised every night? I don't wish to be a killjoy but you could end up with shorter gigs than this one unless a few new tracks are pulled out the bag (or they learn a few older ones)! biggrin.gif

Quite possible, Nick sleep.gif

We shall see.

Oh, and in my unofficial capacity of Rock-School Matron girl.gif , I regret to announce that detention is to be handed out to Chris Southon for dancing and singing to Kylie during the after-gig sounds ohmy.gif

I may be wrong but I seem to remember night two at Islington was nearer an hour.

When was the last time they played a 40-min set in New Zealand? - I reckon you and Divvey would settle for last night at Croydon whistle.gif laugh.gif

Alas, that night (3rd November 2005) the band was on stage from 22:08 to 22:54, and they were Mark-less (unMarked?) for some of that time.

The previous London show (2nd Nov) was about 55 minutes long, but Mark wasn't on stage for more than about 30 minutes.

Yes, I did actually time the shows, because this was a contentious issue already discussed in reviews of previous gigs on the tour.

Maybe, but I wonder if these kind of complaints are more typical of the casual fan - those who do not post on boards devoted to The Fall, and may have decided to check out the band and be potenial bigger fans etc etc. I know of a few people who won't be going to see The Fall again after The Forum, and when I told some people of the 40 minutes of so at Islington night 2 - even though the band were good - they were unimpressed. At the end of the day, people will compare it to other bands - who may very well be shit - but they will draw their own conclusions. For example, Julian Cope was onstage for 2 hours and 20 mins the other week.

I was there both nights, first night was about 40-mins with Mark off stage for a version of Janet, Johnny & James.

I seem to remember second night being longer about 50-mins, I will accept less than an hour both nights but not sub- 40mins both night.
It does appear that last night (I wasn't there) was short due to problems with the bass question.gif

Allright, my memory is crap, but my original post related to Conway's "sub-40-min" comment.

Accepting your timings as correct, I still make that 46-mins - not sub 40 in my world whistle.gif

Found this site by chance whilst looking for reviews of last night's gig - Hello wink.gif
Once again The Fall were quite magnificent. It's the quality, not the length - as Brix Smith once said (allegedly).
A lot of tension on stage last night. MES started by saying, 'I've got a revolution on my hands - again. But what's new-ah'.
40 minutes was great. Who knows what will happen over the next three nights. The only predicability about The Fall is that they're unpredictable.
Saw Kevin Cummins, Jeremy Deller and Frank Skinner in the audience last night. Not exactly an Oscars party - but it's big news for Croydon. Here's to the next three nights.
