See Fall News

Should be very interesting unsure.gif ?

That link doesn't seem to link to anthing, Clayts, except a slightly out-of-date FallNews page.

"Refreshing your browser"? question.gif

I'm afraid I can only do "plug in" and "press start".

Oh well, I can imagine what the story says anyway.

If you use Internet Explorer press the button marked F9 when on the Fall News page. There does seem to be some weird caching fault on the visi.com/fall address, as I always seem to have to refresh the window - need to investigate this....

QUOTE
added 20 December

Ever wondered what some of the former members of Fall gruppe were up to nowadays ? Well, someone at The Guardian asked themselves that question and they have now decided to run a feature on it.....

We have it on very good authority (thanks to one of the participants for the heads up) that the newspaper will be running an article in the New Year (could well be the first Saturday edition - 7th January 2006 : we'll try to establish the precise date).

Some of the ol' gang were rounded up for a photo shoot and we know that such luminaries as the Brothers Hanley, Marc 'Lard' Riley, Julia Nagle, Kate Themen etc were snapped and will feature in the article written, we believe, by Dave Simpson.

It's also worth mentioning that Martin Peters of The Pseud Mag, the Fall fanzine which has featured interviews with several ex-members of the group, was involved in the research for the article. Not bought this august journal yet ? Be off with you to the Pseud Mag site....

Now all someone has to do is persuade some of those ex-members to form a Fall tribute act in the style of the Magic Band...they'd probably make more money than the 'real' Fall... biggrin.gif

Kate drummed for Polythene and was The Fall's drummer for the Granny on Bongos gigs in '98. She's also on Post Nearly Man.

This sounds great- exactly the sort of article I want to read. I'm a look back bore and I don't care.

With v minor exceptions (Riley, gloriously, and doesn't he like it) everyone else with a either a smidgeon of talent or smart stuff (erm Bramah, Burns, add your own) has disappeared off the face of the earth... only to reappear talking about the bloody Fall (well, admittedly, Karl was probably more concerned about his sausages, see post passim).

Kay Carroll word remembrance from an NME article: 'he's just a guitarist'. It's probably a Manchester thing, but who knows. I'm just pleased that Smith got all these folk to hand at the particular time (inc Dave Bush) to do their one bit (and don't give me Elastica - whoah!).

I don't consort with the folk who worked with me 20 years ago - and I expect they wouldn't want to knock about with me either.

Given the history, I still think the ad was good: "There are no ex-members of the The Fall in the The Fall".

Actually, given the complete band-sackings that resulted in (1.) Scanlon leaving and (2.) the Belfast no-show in '97, technically, Wolstencroft, Burns, Brix, Julia, Crooks, and Hanley were all, at one point, ex-members of The Fall who were still in The Fall. laugh.gif

Are you the shortest-lived Fall member ever Stuart...?!!

And are you in the article?!

I recall a certain simpo asking about you a while ago...

I've just updated the newspage with the following:

Dave Simpson tells me he is still transcribing hours and hours of interviews with everyone who has ever been in the group except for Jonnie Brown, Mike Leigh and Karl Burns (the 3 of whom he wasn't able to track down). He says he has some very funny stories and a few quite moving ones. The target date for the article to appear is 5th January.

I've also been contacted by Tim Cumming, who wrote a piece for the Guardian last year about ex-Fall members, featuring interviews with about a half-dozen former members. He says print copies of his extensive MES interview from Spring 2004 are available from Liar Republic at this email: paul.liarincltd@blueyonder.co.uk
