Title: Next cover version?
Description: (poll two)

Stephen - October 16, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
Which of these 20 songs should The Fall tackle next?

Dice Man - October 16, 2005 11:12 PM (GMT)
For more obvious reasons, I'll go for "I Walk The Line" by Mr. CASH. "Purple Haze" would be also great. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - why not? There was a great version by THE CRUEL SEA some years ago...

Martin - October 16, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
Purple Haze. But even better would be Hey Joe.

Dice Man - October 16, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
Or maybe "6 was 9". It could have ace instrumental interludes by guitar and/or synthesizer...

Before I saw the options for this poll, I was gonna suggest Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.

Still think that'd be a good choice.

Big Chief Mango Chutney XIV - October 17, 2005 09:58 AM (GMT)
I went for "Rockin' All Over The World" by The Quo... seems somehow appropriate... ;)

David - October 17, 2005 12:07 PM (GMT)
The best cover ever by the Fall would be Shocking Blue's Send Me A Postcard. This song rocks like few others, and if played straight, would be an absolute cracker. It probably wouldn't suit MES' voice now, but better late than never.

Big Chief Mango Chutney XIV - October 17, 2005 12:51 PM (GMT)
If I could choose anything in the world for The Fall to cover then I would go for the sublime Lord Of The Hornets/Greenfly And The Rose single by Bob Calvert. In my top 5 singles of all time and I bet none of you lot have ever heard it?

No, I haven't heard it, but I have heard 'Radar Love' by Golden Earring which -- mark my words -- will be the next Fall cover version. Just imagine Steve Trafford holding down that motorik bassline, and Spencer flinging himself over the drumkit at the end of the song. ;)

Don't think I've heard "Radar Love"... when did it come out?

P.S. The Lord of the Hornets single is well worth tracking down. It's marvellous!

zoot horn polo - October 17, 2005 02:02 PM (GMT)
You've seriously never heard 'Radar Love', Big Chief?

It was a massive hit in December 1973 for the Dutch rockers Golden Earring. They looked superb on TOTP, too, with their funny, thin-curved Dutch guitars and, in combination with the growing success of the stylish Ajax and the Dutch national football team, helped to cement my boyhood fascination with all things Netherlandular for about four years after that.

And at the end of 'Radar Love' on TOTP, the drummer jumped over his kit and landed next to the singer. B)

Big Chief Mango Chutney XIV - October 17, 2005 02:09 PM (GMT)
Not heard of Golden Earring either.

Your TOTP description sounds ace though... I'll have to check it out. Didn't even know there was such a thing as a "Dutch Guitar". Maybe I will vote for it in the "2nd of which instrument in The Fall" poll! :D

zoot horn polo - October 17, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Behold, sir, the thin-curved Dutch guitar!

Very prog. :applaud: I can almost see Ben Pritchard playing one of them at the next gig. :)

Though it only has 4 strings so maybe Steve Trafford should play it instead?

DJAsh - October 17, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
I jokingly suggested on a different thread that MES and Sarah Cracknell could do a cover of Jetaime.

Maybe more plausibly I think the current band should have a go at an early Beefheart track...Electricity ( imagine that live) or Autumn's Child ? This would fit in with the reference Mark made to the disappointment over not being able to take part in that abandoned live cover versions show of TroutMaskReplica(see article in News).

For once Cheif I hope you're wrong.

birmingham school alumnus - October 17, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
I voted Star Man, but maybe something from Low would be more apt. Sound and Vision maybe?

New York City by The Demics?
Way down Below by The Gruesomes?

Hench - October 17, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
How about Rockin' Robin?

generalist - October 17, 2005 09:17 PM (GMT)
the groupies 'primitive' or the groundhogs 'mistreated'

So do I. :D

Whenever I see one of them two headed guitars it always makes me think of really crap prog rock... though to be fair, Rockettte Morton did use one in the Magic Band quite often... so they can't be all bad.

gappy tooth - October 18, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)
Cotton Eye Joe (& Therein segue)

clayts - October 18, 2005 06:38 PM (GMT)
Seven Drunken Nights - a Christmas single. Or The Final Countdown.

Gaz - October 19, 2005 04:49 AM (GMT)
Clayton mate, you look a lot of things but you're no Julian Cope

You should be greatfull for that, btw ;)

Stephen - January 23, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Sadly, none of these appear to be included on the new album. Another missed opportunity!

LocoMac - January 23, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)

anonyarena - January 24, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
none of these. <_<

Cleanville Tziabatz - January 25, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
It said vote 2, but could only vote 1.

I chose "Torn" bcs the vocal phrasing is such an integral part of what makes that song great and would love to hear MES either emulate or rework it.

Runnerup would be "True", for similar reasons.

Choosing from scratch, I would choose "Stan" by Eminem because that song is woefully undercovered (actually I guess I should chek YouTube b4 saying that).

ON EDIT:
Like this cover:

No, it says 'poll two' (i.e. the second poll on this topic: here's the first).

One vote option only (for this reason).

Daggerfall96 - March 1, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
I voted Sexkylie but if I had a Bowie Cover choice it would be "Rebel Rebel" live as an encore (ohh tell me that wouldne be great if we all were drunk, incl MES: YOU GOT YUH TRANSMISSION AND YUH LIVE WIRES-UH.............YOUR FACE IS A MESS-UH......" and so forth),
and in the studio, ""A new job in a new town", with MES improvising over the top and/or just making noises as only he can!

Razor - March 4, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
 I'd personally go for 'Tower of Strength' by Frankie Vaughan or
'My baby does good sculptures' by the Rezillos

roman_totale - March 4, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
"Barbie girl" by Aqua is sure close to be released from MES's mind!

chachacha - March 5, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Je T'taime

Pat McGatt - March 5, 2008 09:31 AM (GMT)
None of the above but "Flash Gordon's Ape" by Beefheart definitely.

Basmikel - February 16, 2009 06:17 AM (GMT)
Roky's If You Have Ghosts would sound nice given the MES treatment.

Sven Hassel Schmuck - February 16, 2009 08:09 PM (GMT)
Went for Kylie.

But the covers I would really love to hear are:

Wichita Lineman or Rhinestone Cowboy. Glen Campbell
Indiana Wants me. R dean Taylor
Angel Face. The Glitter Band
Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon.

thegonzokid - February 17, 2009 10:12 AM (GMT)
Cash or Kylie.

Or something by Joy Division, such as Leaders of Men etc.

Dice Man - February 17, 2009 10:23 AM (GMT)
What about Lothar & The Hand People - Machines?
While we're at it, Jack The Ripper is a top choice and sounds great. Would be nice for an official release.
