Diskojames - January 17, 2004 04:20 PM (GMT)
Just picked this up after holding off on it for quite some time....absolutey fucking brilliant....I love it. I wake up in the city is amazing, as are the other studio tracks...the live tracks sound great...can't wait to listen to it again. Any other opinions??

hmmmm....subject line should read 2G+2. oops.

I usually only play "Wake Up In City" (extremely loud - is this MES sounding his angriest?) and "Damo". Both great. The latter of the 2 might even be slightly better than the studio version on "Nation's Saving Grace", IMHO.

chrisgoodhead - January 19, 2004 10:25 AM (GMT)
Er, I didn't really rate it. Apart from I Wake Up in the City. Which I loved. Just seemed like a hotch-potch of recent live stuff and mostly substandard B-side material just so's The Fall could release a "proper" album in 2002. Hardly essential in my book.
You watch, i'll go home now, play 2G+2 and love it...

Pontypoolie - January 19, 2004 12:24 PM (GMT)
I bought this on the cheap at a recent show , just for the studio tracks really.
Didn't listen to it for a while, was very happy when I did. I've avoided recent live stuff for a while, but listening to this made me dig out the chaos/america therein/in a hole stuff which has been gathering dust for a while. On the lookout for 27 pints - is it worth it?

If you're a fan of the "Extricate" - "Cerebral Caustic" period then "27 Points" is a solid buy. It's not essential like "Totale's" or "America", but it's not a shabby afterthought like "Seminal Live" either. Way better than "2G" too - two/2?

chrisgoodhead - January 20, 2004 04:07 PM (GMT)
Yep, went home, listened to 2G+2 and loved it. Retract former statement above.
(er... "27 pints"?, you'll regret that in the morning). 27 points however remains my favourite live Fall CD - highly recommended.

richard - January 21, 2004 10:15 AM (GMT)
27 Points is worth it just for the 'Idiot Joy' walk-off. Otherwise, I tend to be pretty half-hearted about any live Fall releases. It's never crossed my mind to order 2G.

Pontypoolie - January 21, 2004 01:02 PM (GMT)
I think I enjoyed it more than I wouldve because I'd just seen them for the first time in 12 years and was still on a bit of a (natural) high, like

Conway - talking of live stuff -do you know if there is any extra stuff on the new Totales reissue?

Martin - January 29, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
Excuse my ignorance, but what does " 2G+G" refer to?

Typo for "2G + 2", which refers to the year 2002 (quoted in "Pander, Panda, Panzer", altho' ironically the gigs which appeared on "2G + 2" took place in 2G + 1). Diskojames admitted 'twas a typo in his 1st post here.

chrisgoodhead - February 2, 2004 04:14 PM (GMT)
2G + 2 is the year 2002, is it? I Never realised this. Until the year 2G + 4. Only 2/1000ths of a G later.
What else am I missing. Am I are missing winner after all?

G = grand, as in 1,000. Like K = 1,024 and T = 1,024K. Even though they are usually rounded to 1,000. Er...

I always thought 27 Points summarised the "Fall experience" perfectly. Mostly rockin', occasionally dissappointing, some humour, a little farce and a few moments of sheer bloody brilliance.

It should be loaned to anyone asking "What are The Fall like, then?" To hand over any other CD would be less honest.

JohnnyJawbone - February 7, 2004 01:29 PM (GMT)
"2G + 2" is not bad, with the studio stuff, "Damo" and "The Joke" making it fairly essential.

lancashirearab - February 14, 2004 08:03 AM (GMT)
I really enjoyed this Cd. It got me back into buying Fall CDs after too long an absence. Thanks to this CD I am now nearly complete. Because of this it holds a fond place in my heart.

kiespijn - February 14, 2004 03:00 PM (GMT)

I prefer '2G+G' for some reason and always think of that as the real title of the album.

fallchase - February 10, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
i really like this album

The Eccles Connection - February 10, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
Best recorded versions of Pharmacist and Damo in my opinion - vital and loud

This album is an essential fixture in any collection

fallchase - February 10, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
fully agreed

This account of The Fall is true but for one thing: RESTRAINT
and The Fall are 95% about RESTRAINT. Yep, all the other stuff, though true, is only about 5% of what they're about. I don't pretend to know why, I just know it's so. It was always obvious that they could take no. 1 in the charts anytime they wanted on musical merit alone, and that MES could shame Plutarch if not for the 'cosy black fleck with green bits', but the deliberate radio hamming NOIzEz over the top and all through the otherwise irresistablly catchy tunes embarrassed most cap-sleeved and levi-clad would-be bambis of the day as it did the ball-clutchers, and it still does the bum-crack crew.
I never had a doubt that They'd last forever. It was clear they had the ammo. but in war you don't go about firing wreckleslly or you give your position, and your strategy, away - not to mention your ammo. So fear ye not that 'mouldy old accoustic case' came from the same place as the 'Strychnine', and you can be sure to be 'Crop Dusted' again soon.
Anyway, back to the thread; I love 2G + 2 - and was real 'bush :wacko:d' by the beclogged chap who pointed out the significance of the title. For me, it's always been the sixth album belonging to the Touch Sensitive box-set ( though it was released first, but then I didn't get it till after TS ). I agree with general concensus on 'Wake Up In The City'; No wonder 'The City Never Sleeps'. :banghead:

REX - February 11, 2005 07:13 AM (GMT)
I think this one's total rushed-to-the-market dreck garbage. A weak EP padded out with second-rate live material. It's not at all unlistenable, but the much better Bootleg Box came out shortly afterward and at least there you can compare the tracks from show to show.

This one was a real insult to those of us who didn't care for AYAMW. I guess I just don't care for its material, in any context.

Conway - February 11, 2005 10:15 AM (GMT)
2G+G will be released in 995 years time. :P

I think that, like Interim, it should have been a single. But we all know there's much more money to be made on a full length CD. ;)

elderford - February 11, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
Earlier this week there was a 27 Points used on Amazon.co.uk for £8.

fallchase - February 11, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
yes i feel interim should of been a single

elderford - February 11, 2005 03:35 PM (GMT)
Anyone know why Ian Curtis is on the cover? (2G+2)

fallchase - February 11, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
good question

As always, with AYAMW as with any Fall album there are versions, but first off AYAMW could have been an early 80's Fall album and I honestly did not know it was their latest when I got it as I didn't have access to the Internet at that time - nor is there any indication of the recording date on the cover - yet I'd have sworn it was a Munster, Canada, Scotland, Whaahre is that.. , but it wasn't. And then,
when you hear the live of 2G+2, and of course TSBS ....six months later... yeah right.

Can anyone reccommend this album? Seen it for a fiver.

clayts - March 20, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
It's definitely worth a fiver - you can get it from Action Records for £5.49 inc postage which is cheaper than eBay - use the 10% discount (type in "fallnet" in the coupon box).

Reviews here. I personally love the live tracks, esp. The Joke, Kick The Can, F-'oldin' Money, Ibis-Afro Man and Damo :)

fallchase - March 20, 2005 05:49 PM (GMT)
yes its worth money, its great.

The Eccles Connection - March 20, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
Buy it for the perfect versions of Pharmacist and Damo!!!!! :applaud:

The Encrusted Green - March 20, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
if you can get it for a fiver it's worth it for Wake Up in the City. great song, and better edit than on Rude All The Time EP thing

Stranger - March 20, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
I think all the live tracks are on the Bootleg Box Set?

Still worth it for a fiver though, for the studio tracks, and a handily compiled near best-of of the bootleg box set stuff.

up2much - March 20, 2005 11:35 PM (GMT)
The version of Ibis Afro Man is indeed quality, but I miss the monkeys and the synths at the end. Who is the man who 'lives in LA'?

I felt the Fall were a bit too clever with the guitar live at this time - it shows on Mr Pharmacist.

Nope -

My Ex Classmates Kids/Engrammatic Dream/Kick The Can/F-'olding' Money from New York, 25 November 2001
Ibis-Afro Man/I Am Damo Suzuki from Los Angeles, 15 November 2001

Neither of these gigs were in the Bootleg Box :)

fallchase - March 21, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
the ibis afro man on it is fantastic

Hmm, I stand corrected. Thanks.

Must give it another spin then.
