writing that:
1) it's so impossible to dog the footsteps of the big great amounts of topics in this forum (i.e. i've just realized dktr hohnholz-g had started a LUSreview topic far before me... so xcuse me dktr hohnholz-g!)!;
2) i'd promised LUSreview would have been the last one i'd have started;
3) i'm not sure the consecutio temporum of the former statement is grammatically right;

please, let me quote from the sleeve notes again:
"It was late 1977 [...] This night though Warsaw / Joy Division were nowhere to be seen... instead I was introduced to a band that within the space of a few months would change my life... tha Fall. [...] The singer had a tri-angular head and shouted a lot, but crucially he didn't shout 'Destroy this' or 'fuck that'... he sung about paranoia... drugs... Bingo Masters and Dresden Dolls. All this to the strains of the most talented guitarist I'd ever come across, Martin Bramah... [...] History would also have it - inexplicably - that one year later I would be taking Martin's place as guitarist in the band. [...]"
Mark (Lard) Riley, December '01

buy (also) this record and read (and listen to) the rest!

Just got my hands on the Orchids' "From Severe to Serene" compilation and it's quite good. I think I actually prefer the Peel version of "Bad Education" to the original.

Haven't heard the Darker Bloom disc, tho.

Darker Bloom is a very, very good CD for the first 2 thirds though some of the later stuff is a bit wishy washy for my tastes.

Is there much difference between "Serene" and "Bloom" with regards contents?

Blue Orchids were always the best Fall spin-off group for me. It's the Bramah guitar factor that does it. Still the best Fall guitarist after all these years. I love the way his voice cracks up too.

Funnily enough, the Fall have never given me the urge to want to start a group of me own off but the Blue Orchids did. Shame I was too shy to do owt about it. :lol:

We would have been great - a cross between the Blue Orchids and Jilted John.

Little did I know before I ordered it, but "Serene" is two Peel sessions (which are great), an EP by Thirst (Orchids spin-off w/Bramah and KBurns on drums--also very good) and a live set that I still haven't gotten to.

Little did I know that it'd be easier to complete my Blue Orchids Peel collection than my Fall one. :)

The collection is ok, but all you really need is the re-released first album, w/ the bonus tracks....i didn't like them much after the first breakup
