Title: David Bowie
Davey B - May 28, 2004 01:48 PM (GMT)
I had thought I was on fairly safe ground slagging off D.Bowie on the Fall website. How wrong I was. Every person other than myself who has mentioned Bowie on this forum has said that they liked and valued his music. Also, that they loved David and combed their hair in a special way to make themselves look more like him. Since making anti-Bowie comments here I have received death threats, nasty looks and most shockingly of all, my hot dog kart was overturned this tuesday by five yobs with bright orange hair. Eleven hot dog sausages were spilled onto the pavement and badly soiled during the attack. Three of them were rendered totally unsaleable. As they ran off one of the yobs yelled at me "Nail me to your car and I'll tell you who you are"! I attach no particular significance to this remark but include it here for the sake of completeness. I would just like to conclude by saying that these attempts to intimidate me have been unsuccessful and my hatred of D.Bowie is, if anything, greater than before.

D Bowie lookalikes most definitely DO permeate carparks.
I love John Peel's alleged comment to him about his origins in mime, ie that that was his favourite period of Bowie's art...
I used to absolutely detest him but got over it. I think Bowie has spent his career ripping off more talented people (Dylan, Scott Walker) or leaning on greater talents (Iggy, Eno).
I like Low though.
Check out the Langley Schools Music Project's version of Space Oddity :o
The "Bowie bonds" were recently relegated to a status just above junk bonds... whatever that means...
I do an hilarious Bowie impression...
bezenby2 - May 28, 2004 03:00 PM (GMT)
I've got to admit to liking Bowie although he does deserve PLENTY of slagging off.
Can't do the hair though cos I've got none...
Davey B, if hunted down and captured, should be forced to watch Labyrinth and listen to 'Laughing Gnome' over and over until he is brainwashed...
worthless recluse - May 28, 2004 03:08 PM (GMT)
I think he (Davey B, not Davey B) is a brave and noble man... but that Gary B pic really fraks me out* and upsets me for some reason.
*Typo for "freaks me out" but "fraks" describes my feelings much better.
I had a friend who was a Bowie fan who used to get v. upset about my pronunciation of his name so that the first syllable rhymed with "cow" rather than "low"... so naturally I made a point of it :D she was a daft lass anyway -_-

Yes Mr. Bowie is officially evil as he helped screw up the attendance along with ludacris for the stills show that i was working, but thats ok, as I got to party with the excellent group the stills, and metric and sea ray, sea ray is fucking fantastic live, metric has a hot lead singer too, and to top it off the stills are marvelous live.
Martin - May 29, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)
David Bowie is a bad actor, a pseud, a fair-to-middling singer and at times an excellent song writer. In the last ten years he's produced more or less nothing of note or interest. His politics I'm very dubious about.
Jed Fury - May 29, 2004 11:26 AM (GMT)
Any comments on his atracous Saxaphone skills?

Alas I am now a broken man. Labyrinth AND The Laughing Gnome! NO, NO, NO!
Alas the Bushell picture remains until every member of the message board has publicly sworn the following oath:
"David Bowie is shite. Everything he has ever turned a hand to (music, painting, acting, sculpture etc) was a waste of time"
Swear your oaths below or the beardy bastard remains.

I love David Bowie. I think he's great. I especially love the Berlin period. You guys are crazy.

Well are you missing winner is a great album, just not life changing lol. I did get it for my birthday this past year.
Diskojames - May 31, 2004 12:57 AM (GMT)
RURMW is a good album, not great. Still has moments of brilliance though.
David Bowie is excellent though. The Berlin period, including Iggy's "the idiot" is amazing. LONG LIVE BOWIE.
Ikariponchi - May 31, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
Bowie is great! Bloody shame about the hot dogs though, those Ziggy types can get their Boas in a fluster sometimes.

Yeah we can take it! Gary Bushell is hideous but there are WORSE faces...
And "OUTSIDE" was a fucking masterpiece!
"HOURS" was haunting sparse and beautiful
"HEATHEN" was good ol rock n roll
"REALITY" is a little slick but is pretty good fun
Even Lets Dance has its moments...
The only TRULY irredeemably shit Bowie Album is "Never Let Me Down"

The Bhudda of Suburbia tune is gorgeous
Outside is good but the spoken word parts make me cringe...(go onto BowieAudio for ten tracks of outtakes from this album)
Hours, I've got admit...is a bit cheesey
Heathen is genius
Reality is a bit touch and go but 'Bring me the Disco King' is one of the best Bowie tracks ever....
Never Let Me Down goes beyond the worlds of cheese....

He is the most evil tyrant who ever lived
Never trust a man whos eyes are 2 different colours...

Strangely enough the fall often get plugged over on the bowiewonderworld message board, I guess Bowie fans just have bigger hearts, fill your heart Bushell photo man, just like Biff Rose told us to

Lying in my hammock this morning I was feeling unusually groggy as if recovering from some awful drug induced torpor. As I gazed blearily up at the attractive beige ceiling tiles I pondered two very worrying matters. Firstly the regular sinister disapearances of many of the more astute and discerning members of this message board. Secondly, the increase in apallingly attired, sexually confused bowie fans who gradually seem to be replacing them. I had pondered upon these two individual subjects previously (see various old posts by my good self) but only now did it occur to me that there was a connection!
(Before I am accused of paranoia I will admit that a few of the disapearances do have innocent explanations. Marco, for instance, is currently residing in the Big Brother house and will not have access to the internet until his eventual release from that particular hell hole).
It seemed to me as I lay there in my lime green nightgown that genuine Fall Messageboard users were gradually being replaced by the vile bowie clones. Sickened I lowered myself carefully from the hammock and shuffled wearily bathroomwards. Looking into the mirror I noticed that during the night, as I slept, my hair had been dyed a bright orange.
I screamed.

Stella Street Bowie : much better than the real thing.
"Chaaaaaanges....", etc.

Davey B:
Bowie is obviously MES's gaurdian angel -
Evidence:
Bowie is mentioned more times than any celebrity in Fall songs - Hard life, Twenty Seven points, others I can't remember.
Bowie's tune: Fall Dog Bombs the Moon (The Fall, Dog is Life, Bombast, Before the Moon Falls)
See?

It's only when you have counted all the polystyrene tiles that 'decorate' your bedroom ceiling that you realise that you have reached a certain point in your life....where to go from there, that is the next dilemma to ponder...Wotsit all about, Alfie?
