Title: Fall Forum buddy scheme - expressions of interest
Description: Shipping stuff to non-UK Fall fans

clayts - February 23, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
I mooted this last week sometime, and Eccles raised it again, so I've decided to go announce it. I should make it clear that this is not an idea linked in any way to The Official Fall website, just me being a community minded fella :)

I suggested that each willing UK member here could buddy up with a non-UK member who wants official Fall stuff which is extremely hard to find or unavailable outside of the UK, and who don't have a credit card to take advantage of the preferential 10% discount offered by Action Records who of course continue to support the Official Fall website, and rightly remain the recommended retailer of choice for many visitors here.

The idea is that buddies can sort out how best to transfer funds to each other (eg Paypal, direct bank transfer, f-'oldin' money, etc), and mail it out that way. Non UK people should then just be paying the standard UK price for stuff that is hard to find outside of the country. It should be made clear that this website would not be involved in any transactions, it would be down to the two of you to come to an amicable arrangement.

I suppose we need some sort of minimum qualification so no rip off merchants jump onto the scheme - shall we say 100 posts + for the UK end of the operation, a lot less for non UK people ?

At this stage expressions of interest and where you're from would be great.

Anyway - I'm up for this, even if I'm On My Own :)

Clayts - Nottingham, UK

I think it's a great idea, and I'd love to help, but as a skiving young student, I'm not exactly the most loaded person in the world, and am notoriously shite with money / trust. <_<

BikeBloke - February 23, 2005 07:07 PM (GMT)
MMmmmm.... buying Fall stuff sounds like fun!

Count me in :D

Country Folk - February 23, 2005 07:07 PM (GMT)
Great idea. I had an idea this morning of starting a topic where people could list what Fall stuff was currently going cheap in their local record shop so other forum members from thereabouts would know and could buy it.

For the record, Fopp in Manchester currently has TNSG, HP&K, Bend Sinister and B-sides on CD for a fiver each.

If we can draw up a suitable scheme for doing this sort of exchange I am willing to help...

Smudger - February 23, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Count me in.

Vvillager - February 23, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
A very good idea, and an obvious thing to do. I'll join in, but since I live in a backwater, I don't know how useful I would be. Nonetheless, please add my name to the list. God help the 'buddy' who gets lumbered with me.

I live in Lancashire, so I get over to Action Records occasionally.

Now I'll just submit this and see if I have posted enough to qualify.

fallchase - February 23, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
well i need the two spoken word albums, and i think i am getting Latwt and dragnet and code selfish.

SteveHamilton - February 23, 2005 08:21 PM (GMT)
I'd be happy to help out with this, but you're going to have to trust me - I'm not quite up to 100 posts yet!

Do you know Tesco Metro on Market St? Fopp is on the road that runs up alongside it - you can see Fopp if you're queuing for the checkouts (not the express checkouts) near the back door.

The Fall CDs are downstairs in Fopp, near the DJ booth. Some great bargains there - Luke Haines, Wedding Present & Courtney Love CDs for £3...

Pretty sure they have bargains on Hunter S Thompson books as well.

All the £5 offers mentioned above all also available in the FOPP in Cambridge, so I imagine its the same throughout the country. See here for store location - Fopp Homepage

Also, remember the Fall fan discount on Action Records for cheap stuff..

Conway - February 24, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
Nice idea Clayts. :D

I'm afraid I can't be of any help because none of the record shops here in Auckland ever stock any Fall CDs! I have to import all mine from the wonderful Action Records (well, other than the ones that Sanctuary send me).

generalist - February 24, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
happy to help :D

live sheffield/work nottingham

selectadisc, fopp & a variety of other record shoppies are available to me...

Granny On Bongos - February 24, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
I would like to help if I can. I can be often found skulking around the record shops of Newcastle Upon Tyne - there's a couple of good independents that deal in new and second hand.

What are we going to do - report here regularly about Fall bargains?

Obviously I'll link up with a non-UKer who wants help with new Fall releases as well.

You can trust me, I'm a journalist.

odradek - February 25, 2005 01:51 AM (GMT)
i can get a sizeable employee discount on many cds, but i don't know if i could get in trouble for then sending them off to others in the us. i'd have to order them all from the distributor. it would definitely look suspicious to be buying multiple copies of the same album. would this be an issue? this wouldn't be very helpful for rare or o.o.p. stuff, it would just make imports a little cheaper. (just got the undiscounted uk version of witch trials, slipcover and all, for 23 dollars. ouch.)

dogomehl - February 25, 2005 08:36 AM (GMT)
if anybody is looking for german releases, contact me via dogomail@aol.com and we can work something out. i am alwaly looking for rare foreign releases.

Hi dear UK fellows and ladies:

I live in New York C.
Sincerely, Blue man

clayts - February 27, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
Selectadisc Nottingham's current offers listed here if anyone's interested.

Green - February 27, 2005 03:46 AM (GMT)
Well, I could use a bit of help finding a couple of things. I live in the Northwest of the US, fairly close to Portland, which has a number of decent record stores, but finding a copy of The Unutterable has been a chore, not even the cool import stores have had any for a long while.

gorillabat - February 27, 2005 04:31 AM (GMT)
I would love to find a copy of Interim for under $30.

I also really want the MES solo discs.

I am also willing to help in any way with anyone but thanks to me this area is pretty picked clean of the more rare Fall releases. ;)

clayts - February 27, 2005 01:19 PM (GMT)
I'll keep my eyes peeled for cheap Interims and Unutterables

Theres an american company on amazon called caiman who i get a fair amount of albums off. I assume they deliver within their own country. Have looked up interim and they're selling it on amazon.co.uk for £10.56. Thats less than $30 rite?

heavilycoveredinslime - March 8, 2005 08:03 AM (GMT)
I think it's a great idea, but honestly don't have the money to do something like this without causing lots of delay as money from buyer clears first. Just wanted to add my support, all the same, rather uselessly...

grottyspawn - March 9, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
Yeah I live in New Zealand so I cd definitely use some help in acquiring the following on vinyl:

Live At Thte Witch Trials
Perverted ByLanguage
Grotesque
Room To LIve
Wonderful & Frightening World Of ....

Plus anything on dvd / video (VHS format only)

Conway - March 17, 2005 10:19 AM (GMT)
Kia ora mate. There's a couple of us kiwis on here - I'm in Auckland and there's 2 guys in Wellington who appear on this board from time to time. Where abouts are you?

grottyspawn - April 1, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
:D
Gidday comrade I'm in Auckland too. Bit new to this internet thing though I am quickly getting hooked.

My new flatties have me hooked on vinyl so I'm keen to get Fall albums on vinyl as opposed to CD

Did you know that the 78 compilation "Short Circuit - Live At The ELectric Circus" is on TRademe at the mo? I'm not sure how rare this is but I bidded on it straightaway .... mabe 've given the game away now ? Anyway it closes next Tuesday and I've bidded $25 for it & will go higher

Cheer bro

Snake Eye - April 4, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
Maybe this has been covered in some other thread but I'd really like to get my hands on some bootlegs but being Ireland and missing the occasions when they did play i have nothing to trade with except two gigs, Munich and NYC got from easytree and then had to convert to mp3 because of critically low disk space. I'd be willing to pay cash but that probably defeats the whole ethos of trading. I'd be willing to trade my LATWT remaster for a couple of high quality bootlegs if it came down to it :cry2:

If yr in Auckland, Real Groovy often has good vinyl copies of these

Conway - April 8, 2005 04:19 AM (GMT)
Possibly mine! On the third or fourth time around - I traded all my vinyl in at Real Groovy in the early 90s.

grottyspawn - April 9, 2005 06:44 AM (GMT)
I reckon CDs suck

At least with vinyl you get a full size cover + they still play even if scratched
