Maybe it's exposed nature is designed to be scary. If I was a roman soldier i'd find a bollock naked celtic warrior running at me screaming with a big sword and his tackle out far more scary than a bloke in armour.

That would depend on whether they were showers or growers. If i were a Celtic warrior commander I might be tempted to put my showers at the front and my growers at the back.

It's a size thing. If you're a "shower," (that's show-er, not like that thing that rain does) your full extent is displayed when flaccid. If you're a "grower," then you look smaller until you're hard.
