Title: Promotional videos for Fall singles
thom - June 17, 2003 08:17 PM (GMT)
I remember seeing the Free Range video on MTV a few times.
Does anyone know of this and if its available anywhere?
Just wondering what happens to all the post Shiftwork videos they made....
DQuinn - June 17, 2003 08:52 PM (GMT)
honestly, I don’t care one way or another about Free Range. however it brings up a good point. Why is it that there are all these fuckt up comps & live albums & yet only one dvd available? To hell w/ the live boxset, let me have the dvd boxset! We know good quality stuffs out there…
thom - June 17, 2003 10:35 PM (GMT)
nostalgic really.
First time I saw the Fall ever, being in Finland at the time:
Freerange was played on 120 minutes, the host thought it the best song of the year:
Mark and gang driving around in jeep with him up front like a dictator. I thought it was the coolist thing I ever heard at the time. I'm more into the older stuff now.
maybe it will come up on the multimedia site eventually. I remember i recorded it but lost the tape.
Wretched Timesheeter - June 18, 2003 11:05 AM (GMT)
Man, I'd like to see a collection of Fall videos, even if the ones I've seen aren't particularly great. They've been going for long enough. I haven't seen the one for Free Range, and I don't think they've done a video since Touch Sensitive. Still, Fall vs 2003 did pretty well (for a Fall single - and around the Christmas rush) with no video. Not that that has anything to do with the subject.
Still, we've got The Fall Multimedia Project. MES on TOTP2 was brilliant.
fallfandave - June 18, 2003 12:18 PM (GMT)
Yes ! I think I will make a svcd of all the bending stuff.... that's what I will do.....but I need to get a few more yet b4 I do that...i like how they kept bumping into each other on totp n also how he kept bumping into poulou on the other video....
it reminds me of how ppl r when they r shopping ...they just walk into u all the time ...
I tend to shuffle left to right on loop to the same direction as oncoming shoppers [especially with young attractive females i have noticed]
about 6 times until one of us stops moving and the other walks past... :)
stefd - December 9, 2004 11:56 PM (GMT)
does anyone have a copy of the Touch Sensitive video to download
JonN - January 14, 2005 12:24 PM (GMT)
Ok, I know they didn't use video until Kicker Conspiracy and the PBL video. The DVD includes the Leeds live video from 1981. The Beggars stuff is on the 458489 video and I have that.
So what about after 1989? Did they do any videos for the Extricate-period singles, and were they ever compiled on to a tape?
I know about "Shiftwork & Holidays" - is it worth getting? I've heard negative things on here over the years.
Did "Free Range" have a video? What about anything after that?
freeranger - January 14, 2005 12:28 PM (GMT)
free range had a video, first i ever saw. it comprised mainly of the band driving around edinburgh in a open top jeep/car with mes sitting up on back seat singing cut through with shots of hanley and scanlon in a tunnel or something
mikeyboy - January 14, 2005 12:33 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've seen a video for free range. There was also a video for telephone thing and white lightning. I don't think that they are on any compilations though.
mantpl - January 14, 2005 12:44 PM (GMT)

QTarquin - January 14, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
Masquerade, High Tension Line and Popcorn Double Feature I think.
Vvillager - January 14, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
Shift Work & Holidays is worth having, but is decidedly limp after the 2 previous releases. The main fault is that it only lasts about 25 mins if that.
DJAsh - January 14, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
High Tension Line is good...features some gnarly old boxer, Fall girlfriends/wives, and the band in militaria ripping up documents.
Carrie Bagg-Mann - January 15, 2005 12:51 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure it's vampiric London town they're driving round in the 'Free Range' vid, y'know. They can also be seen all smart and sober in their best suits in an overlit office room sort of thing, with Smitty declaiming into a megaphone. It's a pretty cheap-looking video, to be honest.
Pontypoolie - January 15, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)

Death for rent, just what I was looking for. I'm feeling that.

[original, pre-merged topic title: Is There A Promo For Touch Sensitive?]
If so, MTV2 say they don't have it.
Also posted on a request thread on their board:
" chaps
all your requests are being looked into, believe me. If it hasn't been played yet, its because we simply haven't got it. Labels are pretty slack with us still to be honest.
Many of you seem to have seen these vids on the bands websites or on other fan sites, so what would be really awesome is while you're there, why don't you suggest to them that they send us their goddamn clips? Im not kidding - it would be incredibly useful and probably more effective than me spending the next 4 weeks chasing the buggers.
tell them to contact Will McGillivray @ MTV2, Camden - 0207 284 7777 (thats the reception so don't try and leave me unpleasant messages)"
clayts - August 4, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
I don't think either Artful single had a viddy. Just ask them to get in touch with Vauxhall
EDIT : Proved wrong : see below
Durruti - August 4, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
Of corsa should! Best promo eva :applaud:
Lawks-a-lawdy, if they never had a propa clip how'd they ever expect to hit the Top 10? ;)
LIBERTINO - August 4, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
I know, I know, I know, I know... There was no promo vid for Touch Sensitive.
EDITED: At least I thought I did. See later post on this thread for update :ohdear: .
simonfb - August 4, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
there IS (was) an official promo video for touch sensitive and it was made when the single was originally released - ie well before the corsa advert
i remember seeing it ONCE on mtv2 at the time the album came out - it mostly involves the band standing on an office block rooftop belting out a mimed rendition with instruments and then strollmarching in menacing fashion down those inbetweenstreet bits of footpaths (i cant find the correct spelling of "guina-ginnell" on the web)
it was actually loads of fun but i couldnt grab a tape (that hadnt got the record tab knocked out) in time and nobody on fallnet when asked had managed either - I only saw it once - if i remember corectly, that tawt zame lowe was presenting da show and it was at the point where he was first appearing on tv a lot
there is also an official (but i dont think "released") pascal vid for 2 librans - might have been part of his art house multimedia show thing - cant be arsed trawling the archeives to check
simon
Durruti - August 4, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks simon; I thought I remembered someone once mentioning something with rooftops and chimneys but I thought I was going mad...
LIBERTINO - August 4, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Blimey! You learn summat every day. So was this an actual Touch Sensitive promo video or just some footage shot for use on MTV2?
I remember there was some guy around at that time filming footage for a documentary that never surfaced, he was on stage recording the band playing live at Kentish Town Forum on 14.05.99. He was involved with a company called Digital Arts who were putting the project together for Channel 4. If I recall correctly, MES made reference to their on stage presence via lyrical ad libs.
Pascal Le Gras also videoed some footage on the same night - and also when they played at Camden Dingwalls with the Marshall Suite/Unutterable line up.
LIBERTINO - August 5, 2005 07:07 AM (GMT)
:applaud: SimonFB. I bow to your superior wisdom.
I have received a PM from a knowledgable forum user who had this info verified by an ex Fall member.
And I've spoken to a different ex Fall member myself who was in the band at the time when Touch Sensitive was released.
It would appear that there IS/Was a promo video for Touch Sensitive, that was shot on some London rooftops.
I will go sit at the back of the class with the dunces and write out my lines:
400 X "Educated kids know what they're on about".
worthless recluse - August 5, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
I saw this promo once on the main MTV channel, when the single was released.
I remember that there was a bit of drinking featured in the video – perhaps this has something to do with the fact that it wasn’t shown more often, maybe to do with broadcasting standards considerations. I know there are weird rules governing showing drinking on UK TV before the watershed, not sure if these apply to MTV though. It’s possible that labels on the beer bottles were legible also.
Conway - August 5, 2005 10:51 AM (GMT)
Simon will probably remember Julia talking about it on fallnet. And didn't someone on this forum recently talk about having been an extra or around at the filming of it?
doon - August 5, 2005 11:36 AM (GMT)
Would it not be easier to just ask the band?
clayts - August 5, 2005 11:37 AM (GMT)
Would that be the band that existed in 1999, or the current band ?
The current band would know nuffink about it, apart from Mark....and I suspect his memory may be a little sketchy to say the least.
Julia is probably the best bet....:)

i don't remember much fallnet discussion on this particular track - i just remember my personal horror of seeing it and not having a tape and then watching that twat zanes lowes nuwe showe for the next 14 nights videotape at the ready - i swear* i used to set the tape recording every advert break and then rewind it during the next one - so between every 2 videos (sucksucksuck) - and it never got shown again - gutted i was
all the music channels suck the the big one re adverts mind - i once tried to watch the Clash film "rude boy" and then realised that VH1 were managing to stretch it out to 3 1/2 hours with ad breaks
simon
* on occassion, or so i am told
Durruti - August 5, 2005 09:05 PM (GMT)
I know what you're saying, simon, MTV2 is 99% appallingly bad during the day but the late night 120 Minutes show has some flashes of splendid droplets. One prog had four of my requests and I was sitting there with my jaw on the floor.
Most of the show is new stuff which I have to applaud even if some of it is shit but they also regularly stick in the 'influential alt classics'. They've had Telephone Thing, Big New Prinz, Ghost In My House, Sparta FC and Hit the North (complete with beer drinking - it's a late night show). They dragged out Why Are People Grudgeful? from the archives for a surprise one-off a couple of months ago.
Soooo I want to see this Touch Sensitive promo if it's still around. Who do I get in touch with about sending it to MTV2? (as they seem to have lost it under the filing cabinet)
I drink cheap cider - August 5, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
Aye, 120 minutes has some corking stuff on there. Used to be top when that Tboy fella used to present it pure time ago. Live acts in the studio n that, still got some on video somewhere.
Couple of months back, they were playing 5 - 6 songs by artists in a row. Didnt know what was going on at first, it was Fall vid, after Fall vid, after Fall vid, It was almost like I was in my own personal videodrome. Tuned in halfway through hit the north. Also played Big new prinz, why are people grudgeful, telephone thing, there was another, may have been sparta.
If theres a promo for the new single, this will be the prog to play it.
clayts - August 6, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
120 Mins also gets mucho cred for never showing adverts (well, the 2am repeat one never does) :applaud:
QTarquin - August 8, 2005 09:42 AM (GMT)
There is a promo vid for Masquerade.saw only a little of it on that show when Smith got the finger award..........don´t know about FÓldin Money though.

I woulda thought you'd remember one of the few Fall discussions on fallnet, as they're so rare. Would have been a year or two ago now, I guess. Wasn't she talking about playing her keyboards on a rooftop somewhere???

I don't think Pascal cleared it for official release. Nice zebras though - did Steven Bending or BikeBloke have it online at some stage?
Durruti - October 23, 2005 04:25 PM (GMT)
Well it's confirmed - there IS a Touch Sensitive promo and it was on 120 Minutes last night :) :) :)
MES in top form leading the chanting and wandering around subways and rooftops with a 'big posse' (a bunch of blokes they've roped in hehe) throwing beer bottles around and dancing..
Well done MTV2!
Durruti - October 23, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
I've got this recorded so if anyone like Steve Bending is interested we could get it online?
QTarquin - October 23, 2005 08:09 PM (GMT)
Has anyone traced the Masquerade video down?

The video shown at the NME awards was a cobbled together thing, footage from the VH1 acoustic session, with Masquerade playing over the top.
QTarquin - October 24, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
Are you sure? I know it was a montage of videos but there seemed to be a proper Masquerade video in there.
