Curious Yellow - December 24, 2004 05:45 PM (GMT)
Happy Xmas

S5 not Manc - December 24, 2004 06:07 PM (GMT)
No xmas for John Quays.

Gaz - December 24, 2004 06:11 PM (GMT)
No x-mas for John Quays gets my vote

fallchase - December 24, 2004 09:07 PM (GMT)
protein protection christmas fucking rules. best christmas song this decade.

Steve Local - December 24, 2004 11:39 PM (GMT)
Hark the Herald, clearly, though it could have done with being twice as long, Ol' Gang style, with a couple of completely instrumental verses at the beginning. I can't hear this carol any more without wanting to slur "living long across the heavens" in the middle of it.

fallchase - December 25, 2004 06:07 AM (GMT)
good choice

Stephen - December 14, 2005 10:13 AM (GMT)
Which puts you in the mood this year?

Mere Pseud. - December 14, 2005 10:58 AM (GMT)
No Xmas For John Quays puts me in the mood every year although I'm not totally sure which mood.

Tobydynamik - December 14, 2005 04:08 PM (GMT)
Hark The Herald Angels Sing

I wanted to make a xmas card/cd of it as my christmas greeting to friends and family this year, but didn't in the end :(

kiespijn - December 14, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
'feeling numb'.

imaglasgowmanmyself - December 14, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
no xmas for junkies

this is turning into an xmas album

now that would be good

Dice Man - December 15, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
Went back to 1979.

otherdave - December 15, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
"Make sure the album this song is on is in your Xmas stocking" indeed... can't rate this as an Xmas song mainly 'cos it came out in mid-March. But I do like Xmas with Simon, that's a real seasonal ditty.

Stephen - December 22, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
Time we had another one, surely?

Buy Kurious! - December 23, 2007 11:12 PM (GMT)
Definitely (We Wish You) A Protein Christmas.

I play that CD more than most of the albums. An absolutely fantastic 'Recovery Kit' on it too.

Genius.

Noels Chemical Effluence??

I always find 'Disney's Dream Debased' very feastive.

Feelin' Numb!

lustsuglychild - December 27, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
No Christmas for John Quays is the one for me. B)

I've only heard Hark the Herald Angels twice & I don't really fancy hearing it again :o

elvischomsky - December 5, 2008 12:50 PM (GMT)
Honorary mentions:

Calender; “Hey, don't you want to be caught unbrainwash today? October gives way to Christmas…”

Kicker Conspiracy; “Former fan at the bus stop, treads on the ball at his feet, in the Christmas rush.”

Ludd Gang; “I hate the guts of Shakin' Stevens for what he has done. The massacre of Blue Christmas, on him I'd like to land one on.”

Nearly-rans: Deer Park, Elves, Iceland, Winter.

“In fact may I digress a moment? I had a dream the other night actually where I sort of appeared in this Christmas card. The scene was like a Typhoo double decker, Victorian. The streets were covered with snow and I said; ‘Where are you going?’ and he said ‘I'm the editor and I'm taking my staff to see their annual Disney treat at the local picture house." From the acclaimed play, Hey! Luciani

“I must admit I don't like Christmas in England because everywhere closes down for three weeks. It's disgusting. You can't get any bread or milk and that’s what the song's about. Christmas is more of a family time... where families can beat each other up.” MES interview, 1990

LocoMac - December 5, 2008 01:25 PM (GMT)
shouldn't this be in the Fall polls section?

Gaz - December 5, 2008 01:29 PM (GMT)
It would be too obvious to go with "No Xmas.." and to be honest I do not really think of it as a Christmas tune anyways.

"Hark.." could have been a belter were it not for the carol singer chorus. As it is I've gone for "Jingle Bell Rock". Great cover.

Technically, yes.
But it's a companion poll to the Christmas Records one, and I'd hate to break them up.

Daggerfall96 - December 5, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
Mine's with Simon.
FALL Xmas gigs tend to be stormers don't they?

p/a - December 5, 2008 02:49 PM (GMT)
I love what they did with Hark The Herald Angels Sing, but my vote has to be Jingle Bell Rock, as it's one of goddamn funniest things I've ever heard. I wonder if the late Mr. Peel was laughing his ass off when The Fall were recording this session. I would have been.

elvischomsky - December 5, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
“Happy Christmas! We are frightened 'cos at Christmas, Santa never comes for junkies.” MES onstage, December 1977

Bump.

Völlig Totall - December 5, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
No Xmas...
I'll be in that mood this year, even if i'm not named John.

No 'Elves'?

(We Wish You) A Protein Christmas

Great stuff, even a few ho-ho-hos in there...

No Xmas might be even better, but it lacks that festive feeling.
'Happy Holiday' great as well...

elvischomsky - December 24, 2009 01:30 PM (GMT)
Another festive... BUMP!
