Maybe theres a gem of a B-side still not heard buy non-single buyers we should know about....
Go on, spill it :)

So much for my cleaverly disguised lazy-sod-who-likes-other-to-do-his-research thread!

And i would have got away with it too if it hadent have been for them pesky

Much Appriciated Mr.C......

BTW, Have you always lived in NZ?
Just wondering how you got hold of all them (whisper) bootlegs?

Conway - November 25, 2004 03:24 AM (GMT)
Born and bred New Zealander mate! 3rd generation.

I trade with people all over the world, have done for quite a few years. And I keep making new contacts via fallnet & running the website.

Gaz - November 25, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
Sorry to keep badgering you mate,
Tell me, is fallnet still active? is it a paysite?
And, most importently, is it worth joining considering we get news on this very site?

Conway - November 25, 2004 03:33 AM (GMT)
Fallnet is an email list - you get 100 odd emails in your inbox every day. Maybe one or 2 a day are Fall-related! That's what puts a lot of people off. There are also a lot of long running themes and personalities that take some time to get up with the play on. Any Fall news is picked up by Stefan and put on the newspage. If you want to join up - see http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/fallnet.

Divvey - November 25, 2004 06:33 AM (GMT)
Fallnet, uurgh, I simply gave up on a Yahoo account cos I never got on top of it.
Miss a day...... yikes!

Interesting to note that there is a gap between 1985 and 1995. Does this reflect the compilers lack of interest in this era or did they just release everything during that time?

Senior - November 25, 2004 07:53 AM (GMT)
I think the following have not yet appeared on any CD compilations:

Calendar
Ivanhoes Two Pence
Scareball
Janet vs Johnny (b-side of Susan vs Youthclub is a different version to album mix)
(Birtwistle's) Girl In Shop

(US release of COC may have had the last 1 on it, I am not sure)

Ivanhoes Two Pence is a bit of a favourate of mine.

Why don't you post the highlights on here if you've nothing better to do?

Conway - November 25, 2004 09:15 AM (GMT)
What, the Fall related stuff? Or the fat aggressive man's arguments with the handsome aggressive man? (at least they're not lawyers :P )

Voxish - November 25, 2004 09:16 AM (GMT)
Calendar is on 'A World Bewitched'

Conway - November 25, 2004 09:18 AM (GMT)

I don't think it's true to say that I have a lack of interest in that period (especially extending it to 1995). But I think that period contains most of my least favourite Fall singles and albums, especially the Beggars stuff.

I like the June 1989-July 1990 period very much, especially the live recordings. Extricate is a reasonable album. I'm not at all keen on Shitwork (sic), but after that I think all the albums are OK or at least have a fair percentage of OK tracks on them.

Conway - November 25, 2004 09:28 AM (GMT)
Getting back to the real question then, the thing is most of the hard to find tracks (B sides in particular) have been compiled - on 458489 B Sides and then my Listening In compilation covering the early 90s material.

Stephen - November 25, 2004 09:38 AM (GMT)
A comp covering extra tracks from the 1997-onwards singles would be handy...

Martin - November 25, 2004 09:41 AM (GMT)
What about a compilation of live stuff from 1984-6 and from 1998-2000? There's nothing on the market.

Better still, a box set of entire concerts with copious sleeve notes.

Fiend With A Violin has some good live bits from this era. But yes, a full 1985 live gig is long overdue.

Yeah, this has been talked about on numerous occasions. I was down to do a Listening In Volume 2 with Voiceprint, which would've covered all the later B-sides and rarities. But then the Sanctuary deal happened. I'll resurrect the idea with Sanctuary once all the album reissues are out of the way.

Conway - November 25, 2004 09:58 AM (GMT)
Again, once the reissue programme is complete, I'm sure Sanctuary will look at other stuff to release, including live material. Those years will be prime candidates.

Then there's that pesky alternate version of Arms Control Poseur which never made it to Listening In Vol.1...

Conway - November 25, 2004 10:03 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. Indeed. I still only have a really crappy, crackly transfered-from-vinyl copy of that one. :(

It's on the CD single of Popcorn Dbl Feature. It's on mine, anyway.

Conway - November 25, 2004 10:04 AM (GMT)
And I probably could have included Arid Al's Dream as well. :rollover:

Stephen - November 25, 2004 10:06 AM (GMT)
I think it's on Sinister Waltz though.

Conway - November 25, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it's on one of those Receiver comps & also A World Bewitched.

Stephen - November 25, 2004 10:10 AM (GMT)
Another track which never got compiled was the (awful) 'remix' of Behind The Counter. But this is probably best forgotten.

Didn't know there was an alternate version. Is this the one on Popcorn Double Feature? Clayts' Track Record doesn't say anthing about it. A Fall track I haven't heard! I'm speechless with horror and grief.

That was going to be on Listening In Volume 2. You mean the one with the delightful Dave Bush backing vocals. Wonder whether Rex likes that one :zip:

JonN - November 25, 2004 10:18 AM (GMT)
Cant be bothered to wade through and see if anyone else has posted it but...

"Ludd Gang" should have been on POSR.

Also (as Conway explained in his inlaynotes) Listening In had to omit the alternative version of "Arms Control Poseur" that was on the Popcorn single, for space reasons.

Martin - November 25, 2004 10:20 AM (GMT)
Is it any good?

Did I say that? I thought I fudged it by just saying that the song was on the Extricate CD....

Stephen - November 25, 2004 10:24 AM (GMT)
Version on Extricate is different to the single version. Confusion arose because the different mix on the PDF single was never named as such.

I can't remember and Stephen says it wasn't all that different to the album version.
