Josef! Remember me from Prague, Feb 2002? was at Starclub last night and the Fall were tremendous....the band were tight and fierce and, apart from a couple of looooong riffy boring numbers in the middle and a misfired ´Spoilt Victorian Child´at the end, the best I´ve seen ´em in over a decade. A couple o comedy moments too - old fella at the front wi handlebar moustache and flat cap....not kidding....rugby-tackled Mark and he went crashing into crowd, up on his feet wi twisted smile seconds later. Later shouting at heckler ´shut yer fucken face!´ Elena and Jim(? guitarist?) spotted in crowd earlier....real mixed bunch o folk there

God Bless the Fall

Hi John,

I certainly do!! I thought you'd lost faith in the Fall, good to see you enjoying them again. I'm flying to Cologne today, however flight is delayed.

Everyone is saying that this round of Fall gigs is the best they've ever seen them, people that have been seeing the Fall for years. Exciting times for the Fall. I feel the same, this line-up is knockout, Jim, Spencer and Steve are fantastic. Jim's improved alot since the York gigs, he's playing like a well rehearsed mature guitarist now. When did the Fall last do a 2 hourt set? They played for 2 hours in Munster, I couldn't believe it! I really hope this tour leads to something bigger for them, like more album sales, new fans, or a nice juicy tour deal offer. It's great that people have decided to travel from NL/UK to see them. I think the Germans are a bit shocked to see english / dutch fans in places like Schorndorf.

hello everybody!

was in star club last nite, too! also the first live-experience for me!
and it was absolut fantastic. hat up for m.e.s.!
the old fucker...he looked older than i expected. but sometimes he shouted really loud into the mic.
really funny but also a shock-moment when he felt off the stage. :o
but after a quick return he was back into the groove again. line-up was great. best moment during "mr.pharmersist". :D
was a bit out of rhythm while singin to "mountain energei". anyway, the band is absolut brilliant. :applaud:
the drummer was really heavy.
they played 3 short encores. including really old stuff.
crowd was a nice mixture of old and young.
and the best: for a very short moment m.e.s. was smiling after saying something bout "american chaos". i think he ment BUSH vs. KERRY.
was really a laugh. watched it after arriving back home.

VOTE for KERRY!!!

cheers

MES said something about somebody ´winning the German equivalent of the Mercury music prize´ but I didn´t catch who.

I´m delighted the Fall are on top, crack form these days....how many bands can you say THAT about after umpteen albums and hundreds of gigs? and thank the Lord you will never see MES whip out an acoustic guitar and sing a love song....and how many bands, 28 years into their career, can you say THAT about? They ALL fucken do it!

Spencer WAS amazing, tub-thumping wi power and precision. The rest of the band were rock-solid and serious and awesome too. I suppose I´m getting old...I was at the front...but at times they were so loud that all I heard was noise. MES looked old, white shirt straight out o the packaging as it still had a deep horizontal crease across the middle, as well as others! and he was chomping on his false teeth and moving ´em around and pouting. Very neat hair! and he didn´t break a sweat. But I have nothing but respect for the man and what he does, he´s amazing, a true one-off, and they cheered me up last night. We´re lucky they´re still around and still, genuinely, fantastic. By any standards.

Today I love you all.

Go listen to ´Mountain Energei´ and ´Boxoctosis´

I was just thinking about this today. It's great that MES still gets the importance of having a really hard-hitting band after all this time. Because another favourite band of mine, the Manics, have become so *dull*, as if they've convinced themselves that you can't possibly stay interesting as you grow older - I'm not asking for them to break out the eyeliner and pretend to be pissed-off teenagers again (that would be the Robert Smith route, and nobody needs to see that. Nobody), but The Fall have shown that you can be furious and principled and yet still carry it off with grace years into your career.

Both the Manics and The Fall are putting out records this November which I'm less than excited about. But one band's lyricist now listens to Dido, and the other is still out there getting angry in that cool, detached way. I know what gets the nod from me.
