The next Kubrick?
Pick his best.

I'm a bad, bad man and haven't seen Hard Eight. But Magnolia's my fave (and I reckon his best). I was a little bit disappointed by Punch-Drunk Love but should probably see it again.

Yeah. Punch-Drunk Love threw me for a loop. Maybe it was the fact that Sandler was in it. It did have hallmark PTA moments though...nobody does scenes of sudden, disturbing violence like Anderson. And I don't mean Schwarzenegger-esque cartoony Hollywood violence, or stylized Tarantino stuff.
Magnolia really blew me away. Incredibly layered and complex. Brilliant cast. Great soundtrack. And heck, it's the film that proved that Tom Cruise can actually act!

Magnolia- but they are all inventive. Punch-drunk love slightly disappointing.

Magnolia for sure - A messy wonderful masterpiece. I think Punch Drunk Love repays a second or third viewing. I don't like Sandler but I think he was really suited to the role.

And this poll's so old it doesn't have 'There Will Be Blood' on it...

Not seen that yet. Can't be worse than Magnolia.

I haven't seen it yet, either, but it sounds good. Apparently, Daniel Day-Lewis really hangs his hams in it, but that can be a good thing (as when he did the same in 'Gangs Of New York'... it almost saved the movie.)

There Will Be Blood was easily my top film of the 2000s.
Can't wait to see what he does next. I wish the scientology film had happened...
