Title: I Am Pure As Oranj
Description: Album reviews (merged threads)

silverydevil - September 24, 2003 05:24 AM (GMT)
Hi - I just got this CD and am listening to it as I'm writing - it's weird, but "Acid Priest" isn't even live - it's just the studio version playing on a backing tape. You know, in case someone's hunting down this CD especially to hear a live version of "CD Win Fall 2088 A.D.", and I figure most people are. I had to stop writing for a moment to listen to the really good version of "Deadbeat Descendant" with a more interesting drum/guitar rhythm than the studio version, but now I'm back long enough to tell you that "Cab It Up" is coming, so I have to go and pay attention.

fallfandave - September 24, 2003 07:46 AM (GMT)
Ok then...tell us when u come back ;)

:applaud: <--- (He is clapping for the version of "Bremen Nacht" which sounds really good because of some kind of harmonizer effect)

Petula Macabre - October 17, 2003 10:22 AM (GMT)
whoop for bremen nacht!

does the pure as oranj version have a stupidly long cod-german play out bit too?

silverydevil - October 20, 2003 10:22 PM (GMT)
It's not that long, really - I'm pretty sure it's cod German, though!

Petula Macabre - October 21, 2003 11:39 AM (GMT)
oh, i guess some cod german's better than not at all.

will it turn up in my xmas stocking, i wonder?

"I Am Krismous Oranj"

Petula Macabre - October 22, 2003 01:59 PM (GMT)
I Am Kurious Chocolate Oranj!

spike77 - November 13, 2003 08:38 PM (GMT)
I'm really enjoying this at the mo - nice version of Yes O Yes, in particular. Still don't like Cab It Up that much - tho the keyboards aren't as gay as those on the Kurious album. I think a mix of the tracks from this album and the Kurious album would make a much better albumas a whole (kill a few of the dregs).

Steve Local - September 23, 2004 08:59 AM (GMT)
"I am pure as oranj" arrived from an ebay auction this morning - only a few tracks in, and already think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I've a real soft spot for the Kurious Oranj stuff anyway, but this performance is terrific - especially Kurious Oranj itself - surely a contender for "most underrated Fall song".

Just noticed too that Doc Shanley is credited as "Executive producer", but not as playing bass! Is there a story behind this?

A simple mistake. He plays bass all right.

Steve Local - September 27, 2004 10:20 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I realised it was him playing - just wondered if there was a reason - other than shoddy notes - that he was left off.

Martin - September 27, 2004 10:45 AM (GMT)
Shoddy notes. Fall albums wouldn't be the same without them.

REX - November 15, 2004 11:09 PM (GMT)
Well, I just got this one myself and I'm not so blown away by it. The songs sound exactly like their studio counterparts but without the crispness... imagine listening to the Kurious Oranj album through a closed door, but with "Frenz" and "Hip Priest" thrown in. I do like the "Hip Priest" turning into "Big New Prinz" bit.

I'll wait and listen to it again, either on the iPod or the big stereo at home (computer at work not doing in justice, perhaps?)... It was my first new Fall CD in quite some time, though, so in that sense it's welcome.

Sydney Rosewater - November 16, 2004 09:51 PM (GMT)
Got it the other week, heard it for the first time. Tons better than kurious Oranj l.p. I reckon, does the songs more justice.

chachacha - November 17, 2004 02:40 AM (GMT)
this is great-hip priest done over taped hip priest=new big prinz

Apparently Pure As Oranj was going to have a couple of CD-Rom video clips on it, but they ran out of time to sort it out.

CD arrived today from USA (6 days since ordered - very quick and cheap $8) Just listened to it, and very, very impressed; gonna put it on repeat for the next few hours.
Has this ever had an official UK release- Label is NMC Music 2000?

Sven Hassel Schmuck - October 26, 2011 08:24 PM (GMT)

I bought a copy early this year for US $9.99 from "Oldies.com".

They still have it

Ooh, I might just go for that even though it's from Zoverstocks (who undercut everybody who's trying to sell stuff on Amazon by 1p  ).

I have a CDR thanks to a kindly FOFer who lent me his original to copy, but an proper one would be nice. ;)

ths is one of the ones that doesnt make the official list....i understand why (I guess) but this should come into the fold as official once the label gets to the reissue..always liked this one (even better than the studio one, really)
