Title: Extricate or Info
Description: BEST EVER

Scott F - September 4, 2011 08:06 AM (GMT)
I remember reading that amongst Fall fans that it was between these 2 which is their greatest lp

I was always slighly miffed by "Info" being up here, although it has grown on me I prefer

"Shiftwork"and "Code Selfish" . Now maybe I am in a time warp and this was the thinking 15 years

ago .

SO I thought I would ask the obsessive fall fans ...you lot, the considered opionion .

One lp whats the best if I could do a poll I would

 javascript:emoticon('')

Presumably we're talking about the greatest early 90's LP? Because I think the Grotesque and Dragnet fans might have something to say otherwise. :o

Of the two, I'd find it hard to pick between Extricate and Infotainment, both being excellent albums with some classic tracks (Black Monk/Chicago Now/Telephone Thing/Ladybird/Lost In Music/League Of Bald Men/Past Gone Mad all favourites here), and far superior to the snoozefest that is Shiftwork.

Shame about the poll. :D

trickleondaftdan - September 4, 2011 11:43 AM (GMT)
Sadly both of em on the back burner but if I had to pick one to play I think Info just edges it.

When we did that thing where we listened to all the albums in sequence I was a bit surprised and slightly disappointed that the ones most people usually say are the best did in fact stand out as being the best, in many ways - ie. Grotesque, Hex, TNSG, Infotainment, The Unutterable and TRNFLP.
Also, Extricate felt like a rush of fresh air after the admittedly amazing IAKO.

Of these two, I'd say I listen to Infotainment far more and feels more of a whole than Extricate. The latter is one I rarely listen to, if I'm honest...

Scott F - September 4, 2011 12:47 PM (GMT)
Everyone's got a different point of view . I am amazed by the consistent quality year after year.

Extrixate is good and would edge info for me . however when I first heard it back in 1992 I thought

it poor. I previous;y had hex , and could not get into it at all, the only 2 I liked were Classical and

hip priest and reasoned there on the 50,000 so got rid I also got rid of perverted with only Eat

yourself a standout . As well as orange where there was only one good song on .

"Stop eating all those chocolates "

flickeringlexicon - September 4, 2011 03:28 PM (GMT)
Can't possibly choose.

delmore - September 4, 2011 03:39 PM (GMT)
Info has the grooves and Extricate has the tunes - how to choose?

flickeringlexicon - September 4, 2011 03:41 PM (GMT)
That's the best description/comparison of the two yet. B)

Damned right!

Scott F - September 5, 2011 07:23 AM (GMT)
No not greatest early 90s, but greatest EVER IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD except maybe on a

Monday

delmore - September 5, 2011 07:24 AM (GMT)
Why either of these gets rated while Shift Work is still misunderstood is beyond me.

Interestingly constructed songs with some melody and pleasing instrumental work - VS - Bland uninspiring Brit-pop indie twaddle. -_-

Scott F - September 5, 2011 09:31 AM (GMT)
Delmore I agree with you I prefer" Shiftwork" over "Info" and could never understand how Info is

regarded as one of the best don't get me wrong I like it and it has improved fro me ,yet i always

got tired by the end of side 1 in old money . "War against Intelligence" " A lot of Wind '

"High Tension Line" The Mixer' EVERY song is a classic Good art work and the cd edition

comes with "White Lighting " HA

psychocandy - September 5, 2011 10:30 AM (GMT)
extricate!

can someone add a poll to this?

James M - September 5, 2011 12:51 PM (GMT)
I rarely play either of these anymore, and never all the way through. Both are solid, but not favorites. Similarly with Shiftwork.

Hi Bruno!

Scott F - September 6, 2011 08:06 PM (GMT)
I am not necessarily saying " Extricate is THEE best

For me would b in my top 5 BUT it beats "Info hands down. I love" Ladybird ,"Lost,' Glam Its a

Curse . However after Its a Curse I lose interest big stlye . Extricate every song is a winner .

I think the thinking about Info probably stems from the fact . The music biz was too busy to notice

"Extricate" ," Shiftwork" and to a lesser degree" Code selfish" and after that monumentous cock up

probably thought we better get on to these . hence lots of good press and hence a good positotn in

the charts . However there are a lot of average songs on it and they are talking poop.

" STOP EATING ALL THAT CHOCOLATE TRY SOME SALAD INSTEAD IN FACT YOUR A HALF WIT"

He was talking about people in the media and he is right . The journos rate "Info as one of the best

they are talikng Shite

Scott F - September 6, 2011 08:07 PM (GMT)
are probably should say were

nairng - September 6, 2011 08:58 PM (GMT)
Extricate, in its vinyl form, is a great Fall LP. The only track I don't much like is the rather dated Telephone Thing. It's just ok, whereas all other tracks are superb imho - and they fit together wonderfully too.

Info somehow contrives to be less than the sum of its parts. Many great songs, but the endless breakbeat bollocks of It's A Curse and Past Gone Mad blurs the whole artistic statement whatnot for me. An album I rarely play. On the other hand, the Grudgeful 12" gets a regular spin.

Shiftwork > Code Selfish btw.

mixstreams - September 6, 2011 09:41 PM (GMT)
shiftwork > code selfish = balls

Buy Kurious! - September 6, 2011 09:49 PM (GMT)
I could've sworn I posted this earlier today in this thread  :

MES singled out Shift-work quite recently when asked what albums he's proud of (maybe a year ago I think) and there are more SW lyrics in vII than from any other album
(I swear I posted this already. I think I'm going mad :( )

edit: found it - i posted in the wrong thread :ohdear: as you were...

Extricate, in its vinyl form, is a great Fall LP.

extricate, in its vinyl form, is missing some of the best tracks

also the reason why i didn't bother buying the remaster. some of the key tracks taken off and put on the bonus disc :finger:

Hotel Amnesia - September 7, 2011 10:39 AM (GMT)
Extricate just edges Infotainment if not just for the sublime "Bill is Dead"

Infotainment doesn't get going until the first 3 or 4 tracks are out of the way.
Extricate grabs my attention from the very beginning.

In regards to Shiftwork, I've stood up for this album for ages on numerous threads where others have derided it and mercilessly renamed it "Shitwork."

799thJim - September 7, 2011 06:35 PM (GMT)
neither are as good as Shift Work or Levitate, but I'd go for Infotainment, I thought Extricate was a bit overrated really

Note to self: don't post while half-asleep. Even straightforward things like arrows pointing in a certain direction can be all-too-easily confused.

What I MEANT to type, of course, was the opposite.

Code is better than shiftwork.

i.e.:

Code > Shiftwork.

I'll get me coat.

High Tension Line - September 11, 2011 01:34 PM (GMT)
I also prefer Shiftwork to both of them, although whilst I think IS is pretty good, Extricate is one of the worst Fall albums ever.

Gaspop - September 11, 2011 02:33 PM (GMT)
I love The Infotainment Scan, one of the Fall albums I listen to most, The Peel version of Ladybird is a million times better though and Glam-Racket is also better elsewhere.

Extricate? Passable...
I don't look down on it in the same way as say Shift-Work or Cerebral Caustic though.
