wayneb - September 22, 2004 12:46 PM (GMT)
i know - me neither. love it all (esp. rev. runt n capt. quinn)

got a bit obsessed with it about a year or so ago after watching it for the first time and forced my copy upon anyone who came near me. last time i watched it though i did have to leave the room prior to The Brian Scene as couldn't sit through that again...

During the past week:

Martin Scorsese collection (Goodfellas, After Hours, etc.)

The Abominable Dr. Phibes/Dr. Phibes Rises Again

Cronenberg's Rabid, Stereo, Crimes of the Future

Dawn of the Dead ultimate edition

Hmm, are Fall fans all that pure, or just unwilling to admit, (or maybe so successful that they don't need it)?

My answer: Porn

Oh, please. This is like answering the question with, "Comedy." or "Drama." You should list the titles of what you're watching.

Lilya 4-ever. Has anybody else seen it?

Cadishead Acidheads - September 22, 2004 02:16 PM (GMT)
Monday night watched the new Sonic Youth DVD. Tonight probably Sweeney and Sweeney 2. Although I seem to have a mounting collection of unwatched DVDs still in their cellophane packing, such as Once Upon a Time in America, Summer with Monika, My Neighbour Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Querelle .... will never watch them ...

Naah, they just look alike and have the same name. Great comedy potential therein though.
Me: Simpsons season 4 & Curb Your Enthusiasm season 1

Mike Leigh's new film just won the top award at the Venice film festival.

It's about abortion. I imagine there are not many songs in it.

David Thewlis in Naked is superb - the only time I've heard a manc accent done properly on film. Shame about the Island of Dr Moreau - and Harry Potter ...

I notice that Curb season 2 is now available on CD Wow, but only in Region 1 format. Larry David is a genius. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

a wasted talent (so far) i reckon. only other good thing i've seen him in is the big lebowski but that was just a tiny part (hasn't he meant to have written a novel or something? and seeing as he's married to anna friel sure he's not feeling too hard done by)

oh n noticed he was in the (original) singing detective as well when i watched that dvd the other week - ahh, they don't make em like that any more...

I'm in the Blockbusters online DVD rental club and so far this month have watched the following :

Antwone Fisher - so so, directed by Denzil Washington, about a bad-tempered sailor who comes to term with child abuse and finds his original family (was adopted) - a bit gloopy...but a true story...which doesn't mean it isn't still gloopy..

Freddy vs Jason - good for a laugh, totally bonkers plot, but Freddy got most of the limelight. No-brainer

Dogville - my DVD of the Year, no querstion. If you ain't seen it yet, just grab it. Shame that Paul Bethany then ruined his art-house image by making fucking Wimbledon...

Cold Creek Manor - run of the mill "creepy" movie, pretty substandard, holds the attention span (just), but a pretty disappointing ending - worth it for Dennis Quaid alone, a criminally under-rated actor in my opinion

The Singing Detective (remake) - surprisingly very goo, although nowt will top the original BBC series. Downey makes a valiant stab at the Gambon character and does it excellently - just the right hint of insanity/paranoia when the disease is at its height. Worth a watch...

The Locals - a New Zealand creepy and actually rather good, if a little formulaic. Sort of a cross between Groudhog Day and Night of the Living Dead ! Again, worth a hire...

Nah, it's like post-apocalypse battles between those who are sterile and those who aren't. With sex scenes

BikeBloke - September 22, 2004 04:20 PM (GMT)
Talking of Gambon, I watched Peter Greenaways 'The cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover' again the other day. Truly fantastic.

Other recent views this week were 'Titus' and 'Zorba The Greek'.

Great show. I haven't seen an episode in a year but I will be getting cable again (reluctantly) on Monday.

I don't care for much television, but with cable we'll at least get good reception, a couple of decent movie channels and some more decent programming than local network TV.

Didn't sign up for HBO, but may have to change that for Bill Maher's show and 6 Ft. Under (is the show still on?)
