I really would start with the most recent lp (The Real New oh the title is too fucking long) to find out what they are doing now and then work your way back. Discography will help. That way you should get a decent perspective.

Real New blah, Unutterable, Live at the Witch Trials 2CD reish.

Hex Enduction. No matter what source you consult, it always comes out as an all-time fave along with TNSG.

you can't go wrong with '50,000 fall fans...' as a decent priced, career spanning, double album.

Do not buy the Diamond Dogs 30th anniversary cd, it is a waste of money. However, Grotesque reissue is pretty.

This has been said before, but the best of could have been so much more adventurous.

Adventurous was well down the list of priorities in the track selection process. It's a commercial / singles type best of compilation aimed to gently ease in newcomers.

Conway -- You still haven't told us what the 40th track was going to be.
Couldn't Get Ahead?
Big New Prinz?
Wrong Place, Right Time?

Actually, I thought Hip Priest was a pretty daring choice in this context. I'd've much preferred New Big Prinz (and hey — that would've left room for another song!); Hip Priest is iconic, I suppose, but it's definitely the less accessible side of The Fall.
