Title: See what flows from his mushy pen
Description: fall cover art

The Encrusted Green - August 11, 2004 10:24 PM (GMT)
Good that the Sparta FC single revived the MES biro scrawl approach to Fall cover art. Back to the Mqus Cha-Cha approach.

The MES DIY covers are the best: Hex, RtoL, Totally Wired, Totale's, 27 points.

the list of bad fall album art is a very long list indeed. AYAMW obviously the worst, in keeping with general rushed half-arsed nature of that product, but Cerebral Caustic, Frenz aren't far behind.

TNSG is, and presumably always be, my favourite - something about the grim oop North feel to it :)

Claus' covers were also excellent too, naturally.

My least favourite has to be RURMW (although it's the first photograph of Eleni on a Fall release ;)).

i also love the M.E.S. artworks over the others...
the Claus-Art ones were really incredible as well...mixing his paintings with a M.E.S. text and whatnot...
the later ones were a lil' too clean for me...esp for Fall cover art...
the WORST imo is "Light User Syndrome"...b.o.r.i.n.g. <_<

Yeah, Hex and other MES-scrawled offerings rule for me. "Perverted" is my fave Castenkiold. But "It's The New Thing" single cover still makes me laugh out loud. That pose! Those clothes and haircuts!

I quite like that one because Smith looks so, well, worried.

Didn't he stop that style because pavement started doing the same thing?

but pavement are gone now, so any chance someone can get MES back to cut n' paste scrawly cover art! The last 6 album covers or so are woeful. No comments, lyrics, notes etc.,

I'm a graphic designer myself and would love to get a shot at designing a FAll Sleeve, but if I was doing it I'd use MES's notes and writing and bits of collage as the source material. Anything else is not in the spirit of the fall I think, unless it is a particular artist or illustrator that suits the work.

I feel that the recent (i.e. last 15 years) computer generated covers have been lazy, I could knock something like then up with little effort I suppose; the cut & paste of the early scrapbooks was iconic, the Beggars releases had genuinely appropriate artwork, commisioned & professioanlly produced.
My fave? the back of Rollin' Dany 12" Marquis chocolate bar wrapper on the desk.
Anyone upload a copy? mine's in England.

My favourite is the artwork for Bend Sinister-incredibly cool!
I do also like the the cover of LUS
it's a great pic B)
I'd love to get my hands on a LUS promotional poster if one exits?

I think MES' old complaint that art departments can't handle scanning in brio scrawl doen't hold true anymore, what with all these dual G4s running about.

RD nice touch of faux-scrawl with the misplaced a in ahead

was it a bradbury story bout timetravellers who alter slight detail of past to cause bad spelling and nazism?

The Bradbury story is "The Sound of Thunder." Rich elites travel back in time to hunt dinosaurs who are about to die anyway. Hero gets freaked out and steps off the path, kills a butterfly. Returns to the 'present' to find it a Fascistic nightmare state...
