Title: Have You Heard Your Future Our Clutter?
Description: Still 6 weeks to go before release.
Fritter - March 11, 2010 11:46 AM (GMT)
Genuinely interested if anyone else is waiting for the release date to hear the new LP.
My personal reasoning is based on a) in a massively fragmented and saturated market, this is a real but rare 'event' release that I was for once looking forward to sharing with other fans b) the one Christmas when I peeked up the top of my parents' wardrobe and saw my presents in advance proved to be a disappointment on the actual day.
Obviously, I'm being sentimental and probably bitter at having missed the boat that set sail to Excitementland some time ago.
A Worried Man - March 11, 2010 11:51 AM (GMT)
I'm in one of those periods when I'm not really that interested in the Fall, to be honest, so I've not downloaded the album. I have downloaded a couple of tracks though, to see if they got me interested, and they didn't. I'm sure this is more down to me than the music.
So I'm not so much waiting for the release date as waiting for that moment, probably in a couple of years, when I actually want to listen to it.
wearethedead - March 11, 2010 11:56 AM (GMT)
a masterpiece... mulling over buying the US version or the japanese cd with bonus track..

I've heard it, downloaded it and put it on a disc. It's fucking awesome.
But I do get the odd guilt trip and feel I'll now be missing out on release day.
Good on ya, Fritter, for doing it the old fashioned way. :applaud:
I'll still be buying the real thing when it's out. :)
Orphistic - March 11, 2010 11:17 PM (GMT)
I have and I will be buying it upon release. Brilliant album in the fact that no one track stands out from the rest. Showing that all the tracks are part of the cohesive whole.

Ditto.
GraemeLovesPinkLady - March 12, 2010 12:14 AM (GMT)
It's getting a Japanese release. Coolio. There's often extra tracks on j-releases and they can be filler, but the packaging is better than Western releases and you get an obi strip, so it's worth a look. It'll probably be around about 3000yen which is £20/$30.
Anyway I've heard the facsimile of the album, but for once, the Fall have got coming a properly mixed and produced record by people who understand. There's an amazing amount of precision on display, like there is in Krautrock, and the textures are important. However...you can't really hear things on the mp3 rips. The synth work on Mexico is indistinct for example, the guitar wail in Slippy Floor is a bit mushy, the cymbals are crunchy rather than crisp...that kind of thing.
So no, not heard the album - the promo is great, but the real album's not yet out. Voted option 2.
Starsky-Tandoori - March 12, 2010 08:37 AM (GMT)
I was kindly sent a link, but the puritan in me has resisted.
I have pre-ordered it and await the postman excitedly. I am quite good at playing the long game, and am a bit sentimental about handling an actual copy of the record/CD.
Anticipation is a great thing, much under valued ... nothing like a big glass of cold water when you are truly parched, slake my thirst in April, drink the long draught then. :)
WetWetWet - March 12, 2010 09:22 AM (GMT)
I will do as Starsky and Fritter. This is one of the few releases in many years that I have really
been waiting for (since IWS or at least since November -09). There are about 30 records that
you can listen to meanwhile, and the wait is spent on rediscovering/enjoying these.
I will get the LP and probably a Jap CD. Could Graeme provide a link?

Preorder the Japanese edition at Yesasia:
http://www.yesasia.com/global/your-future-...-0-en/info.htmlYesasia are the easiest to use of all the international shippers of Asian goods. YFOC costs $27.75, so I wasn't far out; it looks like p&p is free for the album, so that's a bonus.

I've heard it, it's great and I can't wait for the proper release so I can hear the full sound spectrum.
daren - March 12, 2010 03:23 PM (GMT)
I'm waiting for the proper release date to hear it in it's final, official form despite my somewhat 'privileged' status (Ha!)
To be honest, I've been quite lucky because Pete's occasionally played me - but obviously not given me! - various different works in progress during this long, fascinating, and often frustrating gestation period, and what's intriguing is that I'm not entirely convinced that Pete's even sure about what versions of what songs have made or been omitted from the final cut, so I'm going to do the decent thing and go and and buy a copy on the day of release... as I always do.

Well, I don't think this is breaking a confidence, but when I asked Pete last week if he was happy with it he couldn't say because Mark had played it him and he was initially really disappointed but Mark then realised it was a completely different version of old rejected ideas/takes etc and nothing at all like the official finished one!!!
Really tickled me, that did... :D

my sentiments entirely (i think i posted a similar comment somewhere else here)
it is a good 'album; and whole thing listening is advised
personally, downlaoded it from one of those free torrent things
mik - March 12, 2010 06:20 PM (GMT)
downloaded it last weekend. I've got 10 or so listens in so far - it's marvelous!
I will certainly buy the US release and I'm thinking about purchasing the lp as well. I've not bought a new (non-used) lp in well over 20 years!!!

can you recommend a Japanese online seller?
I know Amazon jp is Ok but a lot of the site is, unsurprisingly, in Japanese.
It's all Greek to me.

There's already a review thread up, people posting freely.
Stefan's warning was about posting links. He (or MES) can't forbid people to use the internet (we invented it after all)

Well it's pretty obvious a lot of people have heard it as the Review thread is already several pages long, I was just interested to see how many are still capable of exercising restraint, and I don't mean to sound judgemental at people who've already copped it, I reckon 99% of people here will still buy it in one or more formats; and heaven knows it's tough to avoid it, under modern circumstances :)

maybe you could prolong the pleasure by getting a copy for xmas (2011)!!!!!

fair enough, I'm probably being naive, I just thought having the thread titled 'Have you heard ...' was pushing it a bit far - but you're right, the review thread says it all anyway. I have no judgement one way or the other - I just felt we should heed Stefan's advice (which, as pointed out to me, was about not posting links!).

who have all heard it - so you'll be on your own come release day :(
Long lead-ups to album releases are annoying I think. One of my best Fall experiences was finding a cd called Levitate in HMV and slowly realising that it was not a dodgy live album but a brand new studio album that I didn't know was even due. Went from not having heard of it to listening to it within half an hour.
I'll be buying the album (in both formats hopefully) upon its release and am trying not to listen to it too much before then, but I'm certainly glad I heard it, and don't think there's anything to be gained from avoiding it. As a lapsed Catholic I'm not good at self-denial ;)

He won't be on his own, I'll be there too. And if the post is late, he might 'get there' before me.
No one is saying there is something to be gained by avoiding it, people are different, if people can't wait, then that's them. I can, that's me. :girl2:

Re: 'waiting'.
I have waited since May 2008. It might be different if The Fall's production rate were a little more consistent.

I would've waited if I'd had to, but I didn't have to. That being said, the production on this album is so wonderful that MP3's aren't doing it justice. I can't wait to hold the Real Thing in my paws... :)

Since 1985 I've harnessed the power of CD players and iPods, but not downloads, which is OK because by the time nothing exists except computer files, I won't be interested in hearing any music I don't already have, which is very very VERY nearly the case now

looks a bit tricky
see here, their FAQplace an order over US$39
or standard delivery to
Zone 4 would be US$ 7
(Australia is zone 2)
anyway that offer sounds not too bad for getting the j-bonus plus an obi strip. :P

Um, that's my cat. And a mean bastard he is, if you're not me.
I've set it aside for the proper version, after countless listens. I did the same with the last two- nicked, tucked, and then for a good few weeks, abandoned.
It's good. Two songs are worthy of superlatives, two are yawns but don't "suck", and the rest is good. As it stands now, which is not how now has been.
About a third of it reminds me of what I like least about the Fall, but done brilliantly or at least well. Good for them.
