Title: References to The Fall by The Fall
Description: The only band that namechecks itself..
R. Totale - August 3, 2004 09:04 AM (GMT)
Inspired by the A-M, N-Z lists, how many songs by the band namecheck themselves?
Off the top of my head - Pat Trip Dispenser, Neighbourhood Of Infinity, The NWRA, Jim's "The Fall", Crap Rap... what else? (I haven't got time to do a search on all the lyrics)
Martin - August 3, 2004 09:40 AM (GMT)
the one which begins Fall Advance - what's that?
chachacha - August 3, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)

Surely Pop Will Eat Itself mentioned themselves at some point.

"You're sleeping with a hippy half-wit who thinks he's Mr Mark Smith"
Bo Diddely is quite fond of mentioning himself.

Why are People Grudgeful?
He spits in the sky
It falls in his eye
Or some old line . . .
I think that's from Frightened, on Live at the Witch Trials.

Slang King... this is Mr & Mrs Smith to whom you are speaking...
Manowar frequently namecheck themselves... as did Sun Ra... Iggy's China Girl (Jimmy)... KLF...
I heard a late (80s probably) Sinatra version of Mack the Knife the other day where he adds a few verses at the end referring to Satchmo & Bobby Darin's versions, and then proceeds to list all the cats in his band, from George Benson on down... was quite impressed by this...
Stephen - August 3, 2004 12:31 PM (GMT)
Lou Reed mentions himself on Walk On The Wild Side and Beginning Of A Great Adventure.
Martin - August 3, 2004 12:44 PM (GMT)

The Monkess – Monkees Theme (i.e. "Hey hey we're the Monkees"). Maybe The Fall could cover this as Black Monkees Theme?

Not at all.. Info and corrections always welcome.. But I don't think there are many bands that mythologise themselves quite like the Fall group. Perhaps inspired by "Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs.."
Devo did it too I guess

To be fair.. rappers do it all the time. It was the phenomenon of guitar bands doing it that struck me as more unusual

Just to re-iterate, my original question in this thread was how many Fall songs other than the ones I mentioned refer to themselves as an entity??

as opposed to "how many fall songs feature the word "fall" ", then...
otherwise the The would have namechecked themselves quite a lot :)
has someone already talked about Peaches here?
oh and there's this hidden track by Belle and Sebastian, where they keep on repeating : "Belle and Sebastian...on the radio...playing songs for children..."
ok this isn't helping you a lot, i know it's not what you were asking for
The Encrusted Green - August 3, 2004 07:09 PM (GMT)

I think its hilarious when the fall mention themselves in songs, the best is the intro on totale's turn, we are white crap that talks back.
